How curious that the article says that 20 actresses had played Patti. I had never heard that.

The myth of the many Patti's continues .Why the magazine would say 20 actresses played the part is a mystery. As far as I can discover,this is the list

So the timeline for Patti looks like this

Lynn Loring 1951 - 61

Nancy Pinkerton 1961(probably a recast that didn't work.Lynn would have been a hard act to follow)

Abigail Kellogg 1961 - 64 (Had been playing Robin on GL,Did CBS/P&G bring her over because they felt she could be a success in the role and Patti was more important than Robin? Nancy Malone took over as Robin.She had been Babby on The Brighter day)

Patricia Harty Feb 64 - Dec 65 (I'm guessing she got the pilot for Occasional Wife and was allowed to leave)

Gretchen Walther 65 (Variety says that Murphy took over from Harty,so I'm guessing Walther was only intended as a fill in)

Melissa Murphy Dec 65 - 66

Trish van Devere April - May 67

Melinda Plank May 67 - 69

Leigh Lassen 69 - 75 (She was written off in 74 i believe and then brought back)

Tina Sloan 76

Jacquie Shultz 85 - 86

I have also read that Brooke bundy played Patti but never seen it in print.If she did it might have just been a temp replacement.

Sad news. We Love Soaps is reporting that Louan Gideon has passed away after a long battle with cancer. Louan was the final actress to portray the role of Liza.

Sad news. She sounds like a wonderful lady. I'm glad WLS took the time to write so much about her, as many may not remember her or her run on SFT.

Her work in some of this episode is really good, especially around 11 minutes in.

It was tough to follow in Sherry Mathis' footsteps, but Louann Gideon was a trooper. Very nice tribute at WLS.

It's weird, but as much as I love Sherry Mathis' Liza, Gideon looked more like Millee Taggart.

I, too, liked the tribute on WLS but was disappointed to see Marcia McCabe's remarks about Sherry Mathis.

Do you think had the show continued on, that L. Gideon might have put more of her own mark on the character of Liza? Afterall, she had only played the part for like only a year or so.

I get the feeling the show had no real idea what to do with Liza by that point.

Variety reported in July 79 that when Y&R expanded to an hour on Dec 79, it would run 12.30 to 1.30 and SFT would move to 3.30 replacing 'One Day at a Time' reruns.

So the proposed schedule was

12.00 Local programming

12.30 Y&R

1.30 ATWT

2.30 GL

3.30 SFT

4.00 One Day at a Time

By Dec, programmers had a rethink and instead we saw

12.00 Local

12.30 SFT

1.00 Y&R

2.00 ATWT

3.00 GL

4.00 One Day...

How do posters feel that Search would have fared following GL and up against AW and GH?

Up against GH, disastrously. Up against AW, it might have done OK.

I liked Gideon but I suspect they may have recast the role had Search continued. Liza didn't seem to have much to do in the final months, especially after the writers abandoned her relationship with Hogan and wrote out Lloyd and TR.
