SOD is reporting that Daytime Confidential reported it and if you notice they considerably toned down the rhetoric. They are saying that PM had problems with the upcoming story arc which fits with the possibility that she objected to the OOC writing for Carlotta. It looks like SOD learned from the mistake of repeating Branco's lies.

Again there's no reason for PM to make a statement. Nobody but the online soap world and SOD's few subscribers will ever hear about this. She might as well lay low. DC and Nelson will find another imaginary homophobe to attack soon enough.

SOD did a quick description for the Breaking News header; I'm sure they'll get into specifics soon. And DC is actually standing by its story, if you check their posts.

Yes, yes, they're all imaginary to you, dear, it's the uppity gays and their "ideology" that is the problem!

Incidentally, the rest of the world has heard about it. Try Googling her, or cross-referencing her in Google with daytime confidential. AfterElton has picked it up, and I'm sure you'll be pleased to learn that the right wing fringe over at Free Republic.com agrees with you that Patricia Mauceri is getting a real raw deal. Maybe you can tell them about my "ideology."

You mean the one that you are displaying right now. Where anyone who disagrees with you is a closet Freeper? The one that no one on Earth could possibly come to a different conclusion than you and anyone who does hates gay people, Kyle/Fish, gay kittens and anybody else you've elected yourself spokesperson for?

It doesn't surprise me you reference Free Republic. You have a lot in common with them.

I didn't call you a closet freeper at all, marceline. I just thought you might realize your grievances are reaching the wrong ears when you find yourself simpatico with the far right wing crazies, since to the best of my knowledge you are not right wing. The loons at FR were what turned up in my google search for Mauceri and this story. But apparently they agree with you that "the gays" have overstepped their boundaries by asking a working actress to shelve her personal beliefs in order to, you know, act.

And I'm not putting words in your mouth. You yourself began to talk of the "ideology" that gay fans, "Kish" fans, and apparently Valentini and Carlivati all share along with Nelson Branco, Daytime Confidential and Perez Hilton of "my gay or the highway." Maybe you'd like to tell us just what that ideology is, finally, so I don't misquote you further. No more innuendo. Put up or shut up.

Hmm, maybe that's why she bleaches it with Jolen, perhaps she's opposed to dying it with traditional hair dye (chemicals/damage) and would like to stop messing with it altogether. Jolen the less of two evils?

I agree that these *explosive* gay-related controversies will not hurt PM or CE's careers outside of soaps a-tall. That's less of an issue for someone like PM, I mean I'm sure she appreciated those checks from recurring on OLTL but she's older and probably has a nice bit of savings and will continue to be cast in theatre and small film projects. CE on the other hand, maybe films and CW dramas will call, maybe they won't. A guy like him faces greater employment woes when he's burned his soap bridges, I mean we all know that with soaps, once you're in you're pretty much in (as long as you don't royally eff up). Being a good, popular young soap star is a great investment in your employment future (well, up until you hit late middle-age).

If you're an LGBT user of this board, please put aside your take on PM's departure just for a moment: Based on things I've read here, there are people who think Mauceri's exit is (in part) YOURS and MY fault.

I'm one of those troublemaking gay people causing all these problems, since the soaps are working so hard to please me. Oh, and I'm in the same boat as Perez Hilton.... a pile of trash.... because we both happen to be gay.

You, the originators of those statements, have no problem with these implications? You feel totally comfortable with including me - and others like me - in your line of fire, fair or not?

I'm not saying names right now (there are a few). I'm waiting to see if any of them will actually step up and clarify this for me, because I feel like I'm part of attack's target - and that I definitely don't deserve to be. But if we're teetering on verbal gay-bashing here, let's not rationalize it. Let's call it for what it is and say how you really feel. If I'm wrong, then say so - say that you have no bias against gay people, and that my feeling offended (and surprised - given that I've previously had great rapport with these people!) is just because of miscommunication and heated emotion on this board... that things were said that weren't actually meant.

It has unfortunately become too personal, now, to sweep it under the rug and pretend it didn't go there... or to sit on a fence and not clarify exactly how you feel about gay viewers (which include posters on this board).

I don't know if you're referring to me or not but what the hell.

Do you think its okay to call anybody who disagrees with you a homophobe? Do you think that the sheer act of asking for a verifiable source is an act of hate? Do you think that refusing to believe DC's article on its face means you hate gay people? If so than yes, you are in the same boat as Perez and it has nothing to do with your orientation.

I've stated (ad nauseum) that I think Mauceri's ouster has more to do with her age, race, the politics at ABC, Carlivati's decision to write Carlotta out of character and Valentini's control issues. Show me an article that cites a source, a real source and I might change my mind. When I saw a real source I mean "a spokesperson for ABC" or "a representative of Mauceri" not "setside sources" or "a good friend."

And since we're asking people to step up, I'd also like to ask a question of the LGBT posters on this board but specifically you: Do you agree with the people who are speaking for you? Do you like what they are saying and doing in your name? I don't know how gay people feel about DC, Nelson and the like but as a black woman I sure know how I don't want Flava Flav speaking for me.

You say that you've had positive interaction with posters in the past yet you're ignoring that interaction, you are ignoring your own experience, because you don't like the way I or someone else is dealing with another poster. If you disagree with another black poster on this board, I assume that that conflict is between two individuals. I don't assume you have a problem with all black posters. Asking people how they feel about "gay viewers" is a setup because unless I missed something, gay viewers differ from person to person. Just like straight viewers, black viewers, Latino viewers, etc...

Have we as a board lost the ability to deal with each other as individuals? Is it now the Gays vs. the Breeders? The Engen Haters vs the Engen Defenders? The Nelson Fans vs the...sane people? If so, then let's just kill this genre because there's nothing left to talk about.

    • I know this isn’t a usual or anywhere near universal take, but I loved the relatively brief Hal/Emily relationship/marriage more than I ever thought I would have with KMH/BH.
    • In my field (not that) I've written my share of dreck when it's what people wanted vs. something good. In the end what matters is the check. These pilots may not be great, but whether or not those writers intended otherwise they got paid.
    • I think there is plenty to critique and/or roast about the show, but I think there's also good bones and a lot of progressive improvement. It's the Bell/B&B formula and house style that is hardest for it to shake and the most necessary IMO, as well as some dead weight actors or characters, but that formula also apparently works for a lot of general viewers and I suspect CBS. OTOH it's also very modern in certain ways (sometimes overly hip dialogue, and some story) that still make it feel like a show that's bouncing between distant past staples of soap opera fundamentals and the present moment. And the old fashioned product placement is fun but also so goofy, while material like June is hysterical. Imagine leading with 'the underpass is where I live, and I like it there!' It's an unusual show in that way, because its identity and tone is still not fully formed. You don't know what it'll be. But that's normal at this juncture. The closest thing to a glimpse of the future foundation, I think (besides the obvious core family setup that's been there since Day 1), is the rivalry and future familial bond - and likely love/hate relationship - between Kat and Eva. A la many central sisters or siblings throughout soap history.
    • I loved Kelley Menighan! She was an MVP, especially during the show’s last few years. I always looked forward to anything she did with MM, BH, CZ, MW,  and the two grownup Alisons. Wasn’t a big fan of her with RH’s Paul. I always admired how she balanced being a vixen and being neurotic.
    • LLC can be a lot (lady definitely doesn’t phone it in), but her scenes with Rena made me wish they played actual sisters on a better platform.  Aside from JE, who is a legend so it’s no surprise when she’s excellent, Amanda Setton is my MVP of this story and she hasn’t always been great in this role. You see so much happening in her face as she’s navigating the shifts and layers of this story. She’s fully locked in. Glad Rory Gibson is getting his due on GH. I knew he had more to give than what Y&R was giving him. The writing will be a factor here as well because the character of Michael hasn’t been written well in ages (if ever, arguably). GH just can’t sustain the good stuff for more than a few weeks. Alexa Havins is a very good actress and was widely embraced as Lulu initially, but the character’s one-note abrasiveness has a lot of folks wishing she was gone at this point.
    • It's pilots like "Hurricane Sam" and "Anything for Love" that makes me so afraid to write professionally, because, my God, what if I actually tried and came up with something just as awful, if not worse (if that's even possible)?

    • Wow, you have the patience of a saint watching through this period. I think the show does get better but it takes a while.  I won't give any spoilers about Zachary, but I will drop a slight hint: GL was probably trying to get a ratings boost by doing a story inspired by one of CBS's few primetime hits in the mid-1990s. And no, Zachary does not turn out to be a Texas ranger.
