He didn't say he had to be angry or judgemental, he is saying show more concern. There are different emotional beats not fully played that 's all. If I didn't know the characters and I was watching that scene I would wonder if Sharon telling him she had been with other men was a turn on.

Honestly Mark, I think you just explain why Jack's love is compassionate

Apparently today, Eric Braeden is shown at home...even pushing his little granddaughter on the swing and being a doting granddad.

Can a Canadian grab this for us? It will be on the ET-Canada website, but we non-residents of Canada will be unable to see it or capture it for other sites.

 Okay, good point!

Do you really believe that? I mean, it is an interesting perspective. To take good care of others because you feel lousy about yourself...it's more "redemptive love" than "compassionate love"...but it is definitely an interesting idea. I think it might still be sick :)

Oh sorry bout that when you put it that way. But Jack's need to protect her I guess if one wants to call it thriving on her sickness I don't necessarily see that either. The thing is I get that they (Nick and Jack) see how messed up Sharon is but I'm also getting that they learn the extent of it more everyday. Both Jack and Nick think they know but the truth is they don't. One does have to question why they both think they can fix her.. Nick I can figure out alot easier. Jack is a bit more complicated but his love is compassionate though, I would only think he thrives off her illness as an opportunity to show that but then you are right that wouldn't really be love now would it?

Actually I don't dislike Jack :lol: . I have been watching him since the early 80s... I also happen to think Peter Bergman is one of the best actors on the show. For the most part, I don't think Jack does well in romantic pairings...he's usually too sappy or too disengaged. I have never once bought the character as a bonafide passionate character. Not with Terry Lester (who was a delightful sexual libertine, but I don't really think he ever gave his heart to anyone), and not with Peter Bergman (who gives his heart all the time). But if you go over PB's women (forgive me if I miss anyone):

- Nikki (initially that was just to screw with Victor, but later it became about nurturing her through back injury and substance abuse and pregnancies)

- Diane (since PB's been playing him, I don't feel he ever cared about her...actually, I don't think even TL's Jack ever cared about her)

- Phyllis (that was the closest to a real relationship...that was about the coming together of two damaged people who found some sincere love and maturity with one another; alas, that was derailed...first by Diane, and then [in a poorly scripted switch] by Jack's obsession with Victor)

- Luan (fully sappy mode)

- Mari Jo (see Diane...I never bought that he had any feelings for her...indeed, it was during this era that Luan returned)

- Sharon (he has been her protector and caregiver from the beginning; at first, it seemed like a payback for Nick's taking Phyllis...but over time...he seems to get off on taking care of her)

I will never forget the scene, a few weeks ago, when Sharon was melting down. A sobbing mess, confiding all the horrible things she'd done. And Jack took her in his arms and said -- total MESS that she was -- "I have never loved you more than I do at this moment". And then, I believe, he f*cked her (though I might be confusing episodes).

I can't make this stuff up, folks. Tell me that is "compassionate love". When she's a bawling, strung out mess...he loves her more than ever...and then he has sex with her. Jack gets off on Sharon's weakness. He likes being the "protector".

I admit, though, it is my interpretation that this is "sick". Maybe it is healthy?

I want a s/l where Phyllis discovers that Nick lied about being the father of their daughter, that he mourned the loss of Cassie so much that he stole the maternity test results and claimed the little girl as his. Jack is the bio dad. Then in the same s/l Sharon finds out that her baby's dad is Jack too. ^_^

Like I said, he doesn't have to be angry, but he should be a lot more concerned than he is. She has done some outrageous things and clearly anyone having sex with her right now is taking advantage. Good grief, she was stealing without even knowing it.

I started watching Y&R when I saw previews of Phyllis fighting with Sharon and then Sharon & Dru going over the cliff(sp). So, I assumed that Nick was always a douchbag. I also thought that Phyllis had better chemistry with Jack, and he with her. I don't know everyones' history.

    • Oh wow that’s pretty awesome! I wish I had  approached him but there was so many people
    • In the current environment, while it's small, there is a crumb of good news: Apparently, San Antonio voted for a DEMOCRATIC mayor, Gina Ortiz, beating the "right-hand man" of Gov. Greg Abbott, former Texas Secretary of State Rolando Pablos. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/5337199-gina-ortiz-jones-wins-san-antonio/
    • Love this! You are both adorable. Wow
    • I have not gone back to watch much of 1987, but from what I've seen lately, it doesn't feel like the writers or producers had any sort of plan. The show feels as if it's constantly in flux.  I will give it credit for this. It's watchable for the most part minus Lisa/Jamie which I find nearly unwatchable now.   I don't find Cheryl mousy. I think she has a lot of quiet strength, but she was saddled with the Scott romance which the writers did not invest in. She had a good friendship with Julie (also criminally underused), and her interactions with Ada were enjoyable as well. I also like Layman, but Spencer was extremely talented and when Cass returns, Schnetzer and Spencer have some wonderful scenes. Spencer also fits in with Alexander, Hogan, and Marie.  I'd forgotten just how much I missed seeing Wallingford. IT was so good to see him again. Even when they didn't have a major plot, Felicia/Cass/Wallingford/Mitch always brings a smile to my face.
    •   Dani’s cute ass party planner. He gave me some tea but I was so drunk I don’t remember it.
    • NBC must have been grateful to have LHOTP, it's only hit and still strong after several seasons. Their next established show was Rockford Files at 45th. They didn't develop any comedies and relied on movies and mini series  which didnt establish viewer loyalty and habits. Their only new hit was mid season's Project UFO which debuted Feb up against Rhoda/On Our Own on CBS and How the West Was Won on ABC. It opened with a strong 36 share beating CBS and close to ABC as HTWWW had a 36 share over 3 hours. The next week UFO saw a respectable 32 share, then a 31 so it was slipping. A 28 share followed but a few weeks later it jumped back up to a 34. So no blockbuster but compared to what else they had, there was potential, So next season NBC sent it to Thursday up against Mork and The Waltons and it bombed.  They were smart to see potential in Chips, which took off on Saturdaysnext season. ABC was on a roll with Love Boat, 3's Company, Taxi, Eight is Enough adding to their hits. Their only real flops were Redd Foxx and San Pedro Beach Bums, an Aaron Spelling misfire. Like Redd Foxx, Harvey Korman was lured to ABC but his series was a filler that did well but was considered a time slot hit. Nancy Walker and Rob Reiner were also given series on the philosophy that not only were they popular names, their absence from popular shows like Sanford, Rhoda and All in the Family might weaken those shows. CBS were relying on old favorites. Betty White was strong the first few weeks then faded. Incredible Hulk was their strongest newbie. It was lucky for CBS that NBC was doing so badly or else some of their weaker shows would have really suffered.
    • That outfit looks like something Martin would wear lol.
    • Omg not we both ran into people from the show this weekend!
    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
