I was thinking of the same thing too... but then, who will be Genoa City's lawyer?

Rafe. Michael has pretty much been rendered useless.... and has been for several years IMO.

What are Tyra, Ana, Gloria, Jeffery, Jana, Eden, and even Amber and Daniel's real purpose on this show anymore? I think they could all be easily written out if the show has real budget issues.

Scale down, and then attempt to focus on the characters you have and that are more essential than others, IMO.

If they have budget issues why were two new characters (Mac and Phillip IV) added? So do we get rid of everyone who is not a Chancellor, Abbott or Newman?

MAB needs to swallow her pride and give this show over to a real writer, not one who dropped daytime like a hot potato and came back during the strike to help her family out.

Why do I feel as if you are resentful about that?

Any dream replacements for MAB, Khan?

I'm not touching that question with a ten-foot pole. :P

Rafe? Are you kidding. He looks about 19 and less intimidating than a fly. Oh yeah we also have LawyerBarbie Heather.

Also, MAB has shown time and time again she cannot write for certain characters, and hasn't shown any real promise when it comes to them - are we supposed to wait for years for her to finally get those characters?

Doesn't Murphy count for anything? Anything??

I've never seen CI as a "power player" in the business/corporate stories, primarily because, Victor and Katherine appear to be friends. To me, it's always been about Jabot vs. Newman - and even that is strange, since Jabot is exclusively a cosmetics company, while Newman is some mega-conglomerate (that just happens to have a Fragrance division).

Precisely. I think there was a reason why Chancellor was never in the forefront for decades, until they brought it up again a few years ago... trying to split the business intrigue three ways may dilute it. I always believed in Victor and Kay's friendship, Kay is probably the only friend Victor has, so I hope that is not destroyed.

On the subject of Jabot, I think it was more about the people leading the companies than the companies themselves. Jack and Victor wanted to get back at each other, and Newman Enterprises and Jabot Cosmetics were their multi-million dollar toys.

The ones that aren't being used and haven't been used for years in decent capacity can go.

They can get rid of Victoria and JT in the Newman side if they must.

If Mac doesn't work out in the longterm, she can leave and come back in a few years too.

Get rid of the dead weight...

Michael's been useless because the writing for him has sucked and CLB has stopped acting. He used to be so compelling, but now... They need to make him back to the way he was during the early Alden years.

ITA. Kay-is-Jill's-mom was problematic, because it effectively severed Jill's remaining ties to the Fosters; but, you know, I could've lived with it. Besides, it's not as if Kay and Jill had to get along now because they happened to be mother and daughter. Plenty of mothers have issues with their children, and vice-versa.

Cane-is-Jill's-son, OTOH, had no basis in character or logic, let alone, history. If Kay were too drunk to remember switching the babies, then she was too drunk to switch the babies in the first place! And if she were going to take Phillip's child away from Jill, don't you think she would've kept it for herself? Even worse, by revealing Cane to be the real PC3, LML screwed up the timeline(s) so badly; ain't no way in hell that Cane could have fathered a child PC4's age. Which will be more than apparent, I think, when

John Driscoll shows up for his first day as PC4

.

So true...

On the one hand, I "get" the merry-go-round with Nick, Sharon and Phyllis; their kind of story, the perpetual love triangle, has been a part of Y&R almost since the beginning. OTOH, though, I feel like N/S/P isn't as intriguing as, say, Lance/Lorie/Leslie, because Nick and Sharon, at least, aren't as...dynamic. To write a love triangle that goes on for years and years, you need dynamic characters who can bear the weight of the constant turmoil. Nick and Sharon, at least, cannot -- and really? To me, they're kinda, sorta dragging Phyllis down.

I wonder, too, if he isn't talking about MTS. I doubt Y&R would ever ask EB or even PB to go recurring. OTOH, what if he's talking about Susan Flannery (Stephanie, B&B)?

And if she does accept recurring does that mean who cares about Nikki because she is recurring? Let's only focus on those contract players? I would hope not. I think many of these shows would prefer their big names go recurring rather than fire them in this economy.

I also thought Flannery, but would that really be a big suprise? She has been talking about retiring from acting for awhile and moving more into directing.

Why do I feel as if you are resentful about that?

Because, I feel, and have always felt she doesn't want the show she's been handed. I think many people would kill to be HW or EP of the #1 soap, and would be better equipped for the job.

Also real, who thought she was a good HW material in the first place?

Bill Bell, jr is a horrible businessman...

That's when you re-introduce Greg Foster. ;)

(You don't have put the actor on contract, of course!)

But you see the dead weight changes from writing regime to writing regime. So according to your method, MAB keeps Kevin, Gloria, Jeffrey and Jana and gets rid of Lauren and Michael? Katherine was a talk to for quite awhile under previous regimes. So was Jill. Ashley was written out, and yet now you wouldn't include them on your list.

I'd like that.

Michael Baldwin should've never had a family built around him. There's a reason why he was such a supporting character for years and worked well in that capacity. He is not, and will never be leading-man status on this show, thankfully they've corrected this over the past two years in a sense. Too bad they let his relatives wear out their welcome so fast though...
