As things stand right now... I first wasn't going to reply. At all. Why would I? You've already made up your mind, you know exactly how I'm going to reply, you will say my answer is "typical Sylph"... But... Now I'm having second thoughts: perhaps, and you will interpret this as definitely not, I will reply. When? I don't know. Why don't I reply right away? I think you're expecting a long, drawn out, perhaps even a tiny bit emotional, thorough reply and I have to think how to and whether to do it... So you can stop checking the watch.

LoL, Vee. Trust me, people will avoid your posts because you are objective, intelligent, and rational.

And yes rover I'm the same MTSRocks. Still holding a grudge from another board. WTF is this junior high?

Like I said, why watch something that aggravates you so much, then come in to a thread and constantly whine when people don't agree with you?

Wow! Okay. You do whatever you want, Sylph.

I honestly don't know how you will reply. I have no idea. I'm curious to find out. Just bear in mind that the longer you wait, the more opinions are going to be set about you, maybe even more than you're set about yours. People are going to look at you and think, no wonder he doesn't write for the soaps, he doesn't even have the fortitude to be able to accurately express himself without demeaning other people. There's no follow-through, no ability to close the deal as a writer or a theorist. People are going to say that if you can't even distinguish yourself as clear-headed, forward-thinking and articulate on a board of boring, generic, same-y lemmings, then how can you be expected to be listened to as a new voice of change? They're going to say that even though this board is generic, saccharine and full of happy-talk, your studied nihilism without substance or ability to articulate purpose makes you the most vapid and generic person here.

And I don't think you want to be seen that way. So take all the time you need, but remember, people want to hear you knock it out of the park. If your convictions are strong and your message is valid, then you should have no problem.

Personally? For me, the jury's still out on you. And a lot of other people feel the same, I'll bet. So you probably don't want to blow this. Nobody wants to look vapid.

IA. I certainly can appreciate, too, how Maria and her team are building on previously established history, and not devising one for Kevin that doesn't jibe with all that we know about him and is just for the sake of one storyline. I wish they'd spent more time on Clint's brainwashing Kevin (if Papa Bell were writing, you know it would've lasted months); but, you know, whatev.

Actually, I tend to believe Adam is faking his blindness. Even if he isn't, though, there's no question in my mind that either he, or he and Estella, or even he, Estella and Rafe, are behind Ashley's "gaslighting".

How interesting would it be, too, if 1) Adam's blindness were permanent, and not conveniently reversed down the road b/c the writers are tired of writing for someone w/ a disability; and 2) he were a villain who just happened to be without sight? Frankly, the fact that we should be sympathetic toward him because he is blind, is an outmoded way of thinking in my book.

Word. If you ask me, I think the stuff that came after Kay and Esther's rescue was just a stall tactic, either b/c, they didn't know where to go after that; or b/c, they needed Kay to re-remember everything (and have her diagnosed w/ Lyme disease) at a specific time.

On the one hand, it is good. However, OTOH, I'm afraid it won't be like it was before, b/c they have had time to bond as (supposed) mother and daughter. Kay even remarked once, shortly after the truth was revealed, how she felt sorry for Jill, b/c her entire world was about to change. Seems to me like, no matter how ugly things will get from now on, one or the other always will hold back, if only a little; and that's no fun, lol.

Now, if Jill had gotten drunk after learning she was not really Kay's daughter, let's say, and she accidentally ran down and killed Murph with her car, that, I think, would've added sufficient fuel to restart the old fire. It also would've been a strange case of tit-for-tat; Kay's recklessness had cost Jill her love; and now, Jill's recklessness costs Kay hers.

I'll be happy just to see these people have a genuine storyline again (...and to see Thad Luckinbill half-naked).

Now, I agree with you about no one being portrayed favorably in this storyline; but, I sincerely doubt the writers know from one bed-hop to the next where to take it, or how it all will end. More so than your average Y&R male character, Nick, IMO, is flip-flopping way too much between Sharon and Phyllis. That kinda says to me one person wants the triangle to go one way, while another one wants it to go the other. Of course, YMMV.

Word to all that. If you want to label me racist, go ahead; but I'd rather have no Blacks on this show than ones as boring as these.

I think it's still early, and we haven't seen her enough, so I won't pass final judgment yet on CF as Mac. That said...? Yeah, I'm not feeling the chemistry between her and BM, either. I hope Y&R has not placed all their eggs in the Billy/Chloe/Mac basket, b/c this is one storyline (and triangle) I see going "bust" with the folks at home.

You are so not kidding. If I were Humphrey Bogart, I'd claw my way out of the grave just to lay the smackdown on those two.

No doubt, these two just aren't "clicking" for me either. Perhaps, it's time for the show to cut their losses where Eden is concerned?

As I've said before, though, in another thread (...I think; I have e-mail buddies I talk about the show with often), I am hard-pressed to name one young couple on Y&R who've risen above "mediocre". Even the original Billy & Mac, before all the WTF? recasts, were a couple I liked, but not necessarily loved. In fact, I think the only time where one could say Y&R had a great teen/young adult storyline at all was during the Danny/Lauren/Traci storyline -- and that probably was due more to the rivalry between Lauren and Traci than to Danny!

Ya, I thought I'd check back in now that the school year is over, and I recovered my password LoL.

I'm loving how Vee is putting Sylph on blast. It's so utterly delicious. I can just see him frantically googling various intelligent sources, trying to pass it off as his own knowledge.

I am just so tired of thinking about how bad Noah, Eden, Tyra, Ana, Lily, Cane and Colleen are. It takes so much out of you knowing that they aren't doing anything to sort out these mistakes. I can handle everyone else, even Gloria, but these few are just horrible, IMO.

LMAO! Yeah. One of the reasons why I wasn't going to reply was because Vee totally cooked this up as the best soap "on air" right now: he wants to ridicule me in front of everyone and offer good entertainment for all the Sylph haters (MTS, Ruckston and a whole platoon of other people). So he wasn't serious, he just likes to see me confirm his theory about me time and time again.

Now, while I don't want to lose Murph for anything...this is an idea of such stunning brilliance, such incredibly good impact...I now want to see it done. Wow...THAT would motivate the feud, especially after the way that Jill has been talking about the worm-digger. I especially like the "symmetry" of your "drunken vehicular death". Awesome.

Again, the nail is hit on the head. The problem is not Noah. I'm sensing Kevin G. Schmidt might have chemistry with anyone. But the weak link is Eden...and it is just not working there.

    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
