B&B: Jacob Young, Justin Torkildsen or Kyle Lowder as Rick?

Lowder all the way.

I liked Young just fine, and was bummed when he left. Torkildsen was a total sap. He didn't fit on the canvas, and I agree with another poster that his Rick was going to become Thorne 2.0.

At first I didn't care for Lowder, but he's won me over with his portrayal of Rick the SOB. He's really good, and I hope he stays for a long time. The show needed a villain, and the fact that he is Brooke's son? Brilliant.

Loved Young, too. He gave Rick a vulnerability and made you believe that he was a kid raised in a sketchy family enviornment (dad was relatively absent and his mother/stepfather were on again off again). He was always searching, looking for love, and just a little peace in his life, given the turmoil Ridge and Brooke's relationship caused him. His Rick was the last sweet, loving, vulnerable version of the character. I'll never forget the scene of JY's Rick confronting Taylor on tryng to bust up his family and then telling her what a pipe dream she was living to think that Ridge would love her forever.

AMEN.

I don't really have a favorite. They are all, in their own way, special and appropriate for the times they were on.

I think I agree with that.

I mean, I might hate Rick now, but KL is playing what he is written decently enough (is that kind of a back-handed complement?)

Torkilsen without a doubt.

The other two strike me as completely laughable as straight men. Young is the better actor, but even so.

Lowder is so fake in everthing he does. yuck. yuck. yuck.

I've never been a big fan of Young. And I absolutely hate Lowder in the role. So, I guess Torkilsen , by default.

I liked Young in the role, and he fit it for that time. I prefer Torkildsen, hands down, but yeah, if he stayed, he'd be Thorne 2.0 and was basically verging on that towards the end. I've never liked Lowder and still don't. I think he's a good fit for what Brad Bell wants the character to be, but I think it's a ridiculous transformation. I just don't buy Rick as Ridge 2.0 and Lowder is too flamboyant and hammy for it to work and his Rick borders on someone you want to see shot and die.

JT tried to do the same, I think, but he created a Rick that I thought was arrogant, and stupid. His Rick was most stupid when he was trying to portray himself as 'tough' or 'strong'. He just didn't physically fit the role, for me. I was always waiting for his voice to crack. Too much baby face. He just never seemed to 'fit in'. I think the writers wrote that character based on the strength of the actors and he was by far, again- IMO, the weakest actor of the three.

I have a hard time figuring out if I dislike Lowder in the role because of the plot, or his approach to it. His Rick is the big angry baby that JT's Rick started. It's overkill. KL's Rick is just less stupid, and angrier. I like some of Lowder's choices - he makes Rick a real SOB with the smirking, and gloating, and the same time he has a tendency to ham it up a bit too much and it annoys me.

ITA with your post. I feel exactly the same way about all 3

That's EXACTLY what I wanted to say...but you nailed it!

It's Torkildsen for me, Lowder tries too hard IMO;he appears to be insincere to me . Jacob Young did the same thing .

I keep waiting for Lowder to burst out singing opera when I see him "act."

EXACTLY!

I'm just waiting for him to burst into song and jump Liza Minnelli.

Perhaps they cast Lowder as Rick so they could some day say that Rick is Ridge's son, bc I see no difference in the horrible acting we get from both actors.

JT for me bc I didn't watch B&B when JY was in the role.
