Members alwaysAMC Posted March 16, 2009 Members Share Posted March 16, 2009 This might be old news, considering the show started in 2005, but my boyfriend and I were playing around on Netflix this weekend and started watching this gay 'soap'/comedy called Noah's Arc. It's an African American cast, and funny as hell. We watched every episode all weekend, and noticed that Keith Hamilton Cobb (ex-Noah, AMC) and Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru, Y&R) were both heavily featured in gay storylines in Season 2 of the show! Victoria was looking great, and Keith looked completely different to me (since I only know him with his dreads). Anyway, thought that was interesting - they were both macking down hard with the same sex. It was interesting to see.... Anyone else see this show? KHC actually recommended VR for the job because the executive producer couldn't find an actress for the role. He was initially in negotiations with a name Hollywood actress, but she refused to do the lesbian kiss. KHC suggested Vicky Rowell, called her up and two days later she was in Vancouver shooting the show. The executive producer, Patrik-Ian Polk, commented on how impressed and committed she was in working out the role, talking about how when she was in for her wardrobe fitting, she pulled out her script filled with notes and ideas on how to play the character. The cast members said she was a joy to have around and a blast to work with. I think I mentioned this briefly during the whole Daytime Confidential interview debacle, when everyone was ranting and raving about what a difficult diva she was. Who knows? Maybe it was because she was a guest star on someone else's turf so she played nice? Maybe it was because she was around a cast who enjoyed her work? Maybe it was because she wasn't one of the only 2 black people on set? Maybe it was because she was the only female being featured? Maybe it was simply because she was allowed to come up with ideas and help shape this character? All I know is that it does seem to be rather interesting that the same "difficult diva" who came from a high profile role on the number one daytime drama... can all of a sudden be the complete opposite when working on a pretty much unheard of show on an unheard of network (I didn't get digital cable until, literally, 9 days ago so I never saw Noah's Arc when it originally aired on Logo) playing a LESBIAN with a full fledged lesbian kiss... and it was a KISS! I don't know. She just got my respect when I learned that she basically was called in to shoot the show at the last minute and committed to the part. They were already weeks into filming the series by the time she came on board to do her two episodes. As for Keith Hamilton Cobb, my GAWD! Talk about going IN! But it did, at first, get a little confusing to me watching him play opposite of a character named "Noah." Every once in a while, seeing him on screen and hearing "Noah," I automatically would think they were talking about KHC's character. He did an awesome job, too. He was featured HEAVILY in the second season. Five out of eight episodes. Oh, and I was used to seeing KHC without his dreads because he was on Y&R without them as well. He was on Soap Talk on SoapNet while he was playing his Y&R role and didn't see the fuss about his hair. He was like, "It's just hair." Having dreads, myself... First of all --- the show was really good. So my question - why did it get cancelled after two seasons??? I know the second season seemed a little more dramatic and emotional than the lighter-comedic Season 1, but still... Oh, we have yet to watch the mini-movie, but plan to this weekend. Yeah, I got confused with the Noah/Noah thing too. I also got confused with KHC's voice --- did he pick up a slight accent for this show, or was he hiding it in AMC? As far as Rowell, I tried to stay out of that debacle since I never watching Y&R and couldn't place judgement, but I thought she did a great job in this show. I thought she was in more than 2 episodes, but maybe not. She was looking good in the show though - in fact, the entire series had an outstanding budget with the great wardrobe, lighting, and SETS especially. Finally --- R! You sporting some dreads? Though I thought this was old news, bc by the time I actually watched the episode with her in it, it was on Logo. I never saw KHC on AMC, just on Y&R, and when I first saw him on Y&R I had a hard time believing that this was the same guy that played Noah on AMC, just from pics I've seen. He came on all mystical and stuff...but they soon put him in a chemistry-free romance with Michelle Stafford, and gave him a backstory as an angry dad who lost his son to gangbangers. Then, they brought on some vapid model type (an entertainment reporter, who later also got fired from Dancing With the Stars) as his estranged wife. And he was outta there... He truly could have been the new lead/strongman of Genoa City -- a "next generation" Victor Newman, but with a whole different spin -- but instead he was an unmemorable character in unmemorable storylines. A few good moments, but otherwise squandered. I guess, you could say, kind of like Lynn Latham did with Vincent Irizarry. I saw those Noah's Arc episodes. What I loved about KHC in the role was his fearlessness. There didn't seem to be an ounce of reservation in how he embraced his very sexy role. Members SteveFrame Posted March 16, 2009 Members Share Posted March 16, 2009 I liked Noah's Arc but hated Logo and still do. When it came out we had to pay extra for Logo and I did. I wanted to see some of the shows and finally see Queer as Folk in full. To my surprise I paid a subscription for a gay channel and all the nudity was cut out. They really chopped Queer as Folk up to pieces. And bleeped out every f-bomb. Needless to say we didn't keep Logo. So I never saw much of NOah's Arc as that was the only access we had to it. We did subscribe to the other channel (sorry forgot the name). It is the one that shows Dante's Cove and Paradise Falls and The Lair. We loved it. Nothing was cut in their shows and the movies were not cut either. The only thing we got tired of on there was that after a few months you had seen all the movies and they hardly ever got any new ones. And all the seasons of their series were very short. And it was a long time in between until a new season. It was much cheaper than Logo at only 6.99 a month but right now finances are so bad that cable TV is a luxury we can't afford for now. There is a beautiful love seen in the middle of the movie...just kissing and being together in bed....typical movie sex...nothing porno....but of course it got cut. A gay love story, with a PG love scene...CUT. As a hearing impaired person, another pet peeve is that most Logo shows are not closed captioned...even when they once were (e.g., QAF). I suspect that is because they do not want the old demographic. The other network you mention is here!. I have never seen that. But back on topic: R Sinclair has made me think. Rowell is SO missed on Y&R. I never missed her during her previous absences, Y&R usually rolls along fine when people leave. But this time, with her departure, truly the air has left a whole part of the show. And then that makes me wonder...would it be worthwhile, even is she is a strong diva, to figure out how to accommodate her need for control (read: her need to elevate her part of the show). Members R Sinclair Posted March 17, 2009 Members Share Posted March 17, 2009 The thing about Noah's Arc is that, even in season one, the show weaved storylines for all four of the main characters -- even though Noah was the lead character. I think Logo canceled Noah's Arc simply because of budget reasons. That's why the show was filmed in Los Angeles the first season and then filmed in Vancouver (which looked nothing like LA) the second season. I loved the sets, though, in the second season -- although I didn't like the lighting. While the first season was also shot on soundstages, the lighting looked natural. The second season looked too, well, Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire to me. Oh... by the way, just so you guys know, Tonya Pinkins (Livia, AMC) makes an appearance in the Noah's Arc movie. I don't want to give away the movie's plot for those who haven't seen it (because that plot was WILD... it just kept coming and coming, twists and turns), so I won't say what her character is, but yet another soap alum to look out for. Alex-isms have managed to infiltrate my vocabulary and slowly emerge in my everyday speak. Oh, and while we're still playing six degrees of Daytime separation, Doug Spearman who plays Chance on NA used to work behind the scenes at Y&R as a promo producer. Haha - when I first heard that, I had to rewind bc I thought he was talking about Lady Gaga, but then I realized this was 2005. I've never heard 'degaga' before. Ok - when I was watching - I thought the guy who played 'Guy' was also in soaps bc he looked really familiar. Not a big soap star, but maybe a recurring extra somewhere? Anyway - he was FINE. Didn't like how his crazy a$$ got caught and gave up all in one episode though. I also liked Trey - I need to check out what else he's been on. I'll admit, when first watching, I just assumed all the actors were gay in real life, but after seeing KHC, I started looking at them all differently and now I'm wondering.
