OLTL: Discussion for the week March 16

I thought Farah was fine today. She was barely on. People are running this into the ground. Soon it will be time for the Farah Fath double backlash.

It's what I call "Shark ethics". That entails smelling blood in the water and engaging in a feeding frenzy. Guilty as charged.

Hey, whatever helps you get through Farah Fatah's piss poor performances. She and OLTL would be far better off if someone sat her down and helped her make better acting choices ie. stoicism than allowing her to keep on churning out those horrible fake crying scenes.

That's okay....I already know what happens from my own spoilers that I typed up...but Toups may not like it, since he's spolier-free and everything. :D

Yeah, please use spoiler tags. Luckily, I read this thread from bottom-to-top, so I didn't see what Range posted and I didn't go further up. Range better go back and put spoiler tags! Surely, you must know not to put spoilers without tags by now. ;)

Seriously! If it's aired! It's still a spoiler????? RTR only discussed today's episode. I think.

Perhaps I need to review the published rules about spoilers and spoiler tags. I honestly hope they're not "shifting". I have a hard enough time following firmly established rule that I understand. When people start "nudging" the rules to suit the order of the day, there's simply no hope for me. Rules and I just hang that way.

Word. Farah's dramatic scenes are horrible. I wonder who said, "Let's give Farah Fath a leukemia storyline!"

Well no, of course not.

Oh Vee. The scene called for her to show emotion and cry. Her eyes were dry and she instead overacted with face scrunching, shrieking, and pretending to wipe away tears- that were not there. She was awful.

So Elizabeth Page was the scriptwriter. The writing today was just so good. (Nora and Marty's scenes) Nora describing normal things she does throughout the day that remind her of Matthew being paralyzed was especially good.

Congratulations to the Cougars! I'm a huge basketball fan (I have two bball players of my own -- a daughter that is stretching to 6'1" and she's only a freshman! Hee! My son is only 6' 3", but he swears, as a sophmore, he has one more growth spurt.).

As for spoilers, I thought the rule was if it's aired, it's not a spoiler? Toups even comes in and comments on that day's episode. The fact he hasn't shown up, tells me he's avoiding the thread until he watches himself.

I despise both Marty and Nora. Has nothing at all to do with the actresses. I promise. The funny part is they were both at their extremes today. Nora was all self-righteous indignation and passing the blame and moralizing to Marty. Marty was her victimized poor poor me, all I'm so guilty, and responsible, and I deserve everything you throw at me. I mean today they both were at the most obnoxious of their characteristics I HAAAAATE about them. But what really made all that work for me was the writing and how the scenes were constructed. We started out with cold hostility, then it heated and amped up to this crescendo, punctuated with Nora telling Marty "None of this would have happened if you'd just stayed dead!" Then there was a denoument (sp?) where Marty took the wind out of Nora's sails by agreeing with her! We'd all be better off if I'd just stayed dead. And told Nora what her friendship meant to her, and how much she appreciated that Nora was a good mother to Cole when she couldn't be. And then Nora became deflated and defeated and admitted how happy she was when she learned Marty was alive, and how much she loves Cole. The dialogue was great! The performances were better. Their embrace at the end, and the sad conclusion to the day's scenes with Cole seeing their embrace, then being led off in handcuffs while John watched was perfection!

Ilene Kristen gave an interview recently where she complained that most scenes on soap operas today are "drive bys" vs. the good old days when there was a beginning a middle and an end. Drive bys are quick, snapshots that promote plot. Today's episode reflected the good ol' days. Nora and Marty's scenes took the viewer from this cold place, then lifted us to this heartwrenching apex, and then let us down slowly and carefully to a firm conclusive scene. Yes! We're still waiting to see what comes next, but we're not left hanging. It was satiating. Satisfying. God I've missed that.

As far as FF's scenes went. I FF'd a lot of that. LOL. Bless her heart! Her initials are "unfortunate". But as far as crying scenes go, I'm a fan of Melissa Archer so I probably have a different take than many people. ;) I don't think crying scenes are supposed to be pretty. I thought Hillary was hideously gross today. I don't think SH cries pretty. Crying is deeply emotional . . . It's as raw as it gets and that's usually not pretty. I applaude any actress who makes me believe the raw emotion. SH and HB did so today. FF's mistake is she doesn't feel her material, she acts it. Even worse she tries to cover her lack of "feeling" by overacting. I cannot understand why a director doesn't step in and tell her, "this isn't working. I want you to play the strong stoic mother keeping her emotions under control" She might be able to pull that off.

ETA: I also want to give Frank Valentini, who I've previously considered a lightweight, credit for today's episode. After listening to Ilene Kristen's interview where she gives FV a lot of credit for putting his stamp on the show, I think he and Ron Carlivati have finally had a meeting of the minds that results in a fantastic collaborative effort. Today was good SOAP!

I totally agree. HBS and SH knocked it out of the park and watching their scenes really set a tone for the rest of the show. Every scene seemed to have a beginning, middle and end which it hasn't had in a long time. I also enjoyed the little guy who plays Jack. Sorry I don't know his name but that kid rocks. He hit every beat and the dialogue was perfect. The only disappointment for me today was the Matthew/Cole scenes. To me they just fell flat. I don't know why but I was expecting more from them today. And it wasn't their acting either. I thought they were both great I just expected more emotion and subtext. Their scenes seemed a little too after school special for me. Matthew apologizing to Cole for not getting him help when he knew he was turning into an addict. He just wanted to be cool like him. Come on. A little anger on Matthews’s part probably would have helped make the confrontation seem real for me but all in all a great episode.

TSJ was awful today. He's either indifferent or awful. Are we supposed to believe Todd cares about his kids again? He was so insincere and smarmy with Jack. Why do they keep Todd around now?

Bo/Rex is more and more of a crutch to make Rex less unlikable and less of a genuine relationship.

I thought John and Tea were great today. If they keep Tea around I almost wouldn't mind seeing her with John. Imagine all the Marty meltdowns.

It's Fath. 'Fatah' is an arm of the Palestinian liberation movement. That drives me nuts, I'm sorry. Let's blame Farah Fath for lots of things, but not the crisis in the Middle East.

Thanks.....I'm proud of that the basketball team at my old high school is doing so well. They've already made it further then any other team at the school has by winning a state tournament game. Also neat is that the b-ball team from my college alma mater (Western Kentucky) is in the NCAA tournament this year. However, my favorite college team, the Kentucky Wildcats are stuck in the NIT....but at least they are still playing on. I love this time of year. :)

As for the spoilers thing, it doesn't really bother me either way. I'm a spoiler whore  ....so it's fine with me.

While I will say that Farah's acting leaves a lot to be desired, she has my support.

She, like Kassie DePaiva and myself, is a Kentuckian....and we support and root for our own down here.

Why you ask? Well, as Blanche Devereaux would say "Because we're from the south. It's just good manners."

:D

Fair enough. LOL! I only hold her responsible for her suck acting. I'll call her "FF" from now on.
