Members soapfan770
Well said @Khan and @Vee I agree and can relate to both your sentiments as well. Same as well @DRW50 I don’t get too political ever but I did want to check on all my SON people after the election. This past entire election year has actually left me very fatigued with the whole process as well as dismayed. I figured going in Harris was going lose. I still voted for her yet braced for the prospects as this country will always be racist, sexist and homophobic at the end of the day, never fails. I don’t know what the future holds for except unless I get taken out by a bus I can survive the next 4 years whatever crap gets hurled. Silver lining? Idiots like Joe Rogan, Matt Walsh, and Ben Shapiro already at a loss because they can’t thrive off their usual conspiratorial spin anymore.
Members TEdgeofNight
I so disagree with you. We are not all suffering. The people spoke! Loudly. VERY loudly! Edited November 11, 2024 by TEdgeofNight
Members Wendy
Immediately makes me think of M*A*S*H, which is ironic, since TV Frank Burns was a Republican.
Members Juliajms2
I completely agree. I've always help a place in my heart for academia, but they've gone off the rails. The Jew hate and the hatred of the West is out of control. We should deport anyone here on a student visa that gets violent. We have enough homegrown problems without importing people that hate the Jews and the West. Also, the language policing of people that are on our side has got to go. I agree that language is important and respecting people is important, but we have to do that without sounding like elite nutcases to everyday people or we are sunk.
Members Vee
I'll just say it: Latinx was always stupid as hell, and apparently a lot of Latinos think so.
Members marceline
I'll tell you when I stopped using LatinX. I heard an interview with a Latina activist who said she hated the term because, "When I hear someone talk about a "Latinx female" I want to tell them that there's already a term for that. It's "Latina." I decided to listen to her and I've never used the term since.
Members Juliajms2
Reading that the majority of Latinos don't like it is what stopped me from starting to use it. Overall, I'm going to use the identity terms the person I'm talking to prefer. I draw the line at stuff like "menstruating person". Just, no. Was there a riot in Sweden this weekend? I saw something on X, but I didn't see details. I did see Amsterdam is dealing with riots with "Jews are a cancer" as one slogan, while police are being attacked. I remember when people spoke Sweden and Norway as ideal societies. Hopefully, you can get that back soon. Members Vee
Good luck with that! I'm completely disengaged from any emotion surrounding this at this point and just watching the assembly of the next Trump Backstab Brigade with detached amusement. Like a lot of people online I'm just done, and if that indeed seems to enrage MAGA so be it.
Members Wendy
I thought this election was the worst thing ever [since it reinforced the hatred - one could excuse 2016 as a mistake...but not twice], but like @Vee, I no longer care and am content to let everything burn. On Sunday, I lost my dad. He fought for his country. He was a good, honorable man. And I'm almost relieved he won't be around for the drama/horror to come. And while irrational, since my dad was ill, it still makes me wonder why good men like my dad are gone while such a horrible person as Trump soldiers on. (An ironic term, considering Trump was too gutless to BE a soldier.) But that's just a passing thought. My focus is on my dad, as it should be. Trump means less than nothing to me. I'm not posting for attention, even if it seems otherwise. I'm posting because an event like a loss puts everything into true perspective. So, I will let this country roll around in the mud, but now I'm focused on what's important. And it is not - and will never be - Donald Trump. Members NothinButAttitude
@Wendy, sorry about your loss. Sending you a virtual hug and tons of good energy to get you through this time. I lost my uncle, who served (too), back in September. I am glad that my uncle is at peace, given that his demise was due to serving for this country, and in turn, these people threw it all away for a fascist bum. It further p*sses me off even more now that the GOP is trying to pass a bill that forces veterans to choose between their pension or disability. https://www.heritage.org/budget/pages/recommendations/2.600.22.html
Members I Am A Swede
I haven't heard anything, but I've been avoiding the news this last week for my own sanity. The prospect of having to see the big orange one after his victory was more than I could bear. But football (soccer) season ended here this weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of violence took place in conjunction with that. Brainless hooligans frequently use sporting events as an excuse to fight and cause mayhem. Unfortunately we are far removed from an ideal society anymore. Xenophobia and antisemitism are running rampant here now, and we have major problems with gang-related violence. It seems like there's at least one death by shooting every week recently. And it's young kids who are doing the shootings. 13-, 14-, and 15-year old kids are both victims and perpetrators. Since kids that young don't face prison time if caught the older gang members are using them to do their dirty work for them.
