Soaps and reality TV are both places where you find many more Republicans than you ever want to hear from, but I notice the more out of work former soap actors get the more extreme they become. I suppose they have nothing to lose.

I dunno.  Something about that story - and the timing of it hitting the news - sounds kind of fishy to me.

Me too. It serves any number of purposes for Trump.

- gets any positive Harris news out of the headlines

- makes him look like a victim

- stirs up more talking points about how other countries are terrified of him and want Democrats to win (and this has long been a talking point with Trump about Iran)

- the media will take his word as gospel, all while not even printing any of the details

To be honest, I also have my doubts about the "bitch" story. Not that he says it - he has likely said much worse - but because the framing also benefits Trump. The people who are disgusted are already not voting for him. It riles up the supporters who crave the red meat, it riles up the people who claim to dislike him but praise him as a martyr and chide the media for spreading gossip (even as they spread any lies and gossip about Harris or Walz with glee), and it allows the media to run the type of pieces they love to run about female Democrats - finding anybody off the record to talk about how she threw a shoe at them. And if Kamala Harris does speak up about the story, or if any Democrat does, they will be jumped all over as too soft and all the rest.

I really enjoy Martha's past work and am just trying to separate it in my mind from this awful wingnut nonsense in the present, as I've had to with many soap actors tbh. But this is particularly egregious.

If it were that simple Politico wouldn't have sat on the material for 3 weeks. They would've taken the bait for their beloved Mr. Trump.

I don't think the latest Trumpworld gossip dispatch from Maggie, etc. is anything but the same old soap opera either. I don't think it is a ploy to try to get somehow even more male misogynists who were already voting for him. That kind of story is not getting new people or activating some new wing of his base. There isn't one. There's no new upside.

As amusing and bemusing as this odd story is, I still wonder when the MSM will do their jobs and explicitly call out Trump’s lies as actual lies and stop using every soft-focus euphemism they can reach for. This dancing around obvious facts is beyond tiresome.

Good point(s).  Nevertheless, it does say something that many people, including me and @DRW50, were and are immediately skeptical of the story.  That's what happens when you tell so many lies.  Sooner or later, people stop believing you.  Just ask Paige Matheson.

First, it was RFK Jr and the dead bear cub in Central Park; now, it's Donald Trump and the emergency helicopter landing that happened, but not in the place he says it did, or with the Black person he says was with him.  This is shaping up to be the craziest election cycle yet, and the DNC is still a few weeks away!

Can anyone give me the short version on what the hell she is talking about? Saved her family?

"The GOP saved my family." As a whole? As a collective?

From what I can gather, Martha Byrne says that many Republicans rallied around her and her family after she went on NewsMax and Fox News to talk about her husband's conviction, which she insists was unjust, while no Democrats offered any support whatsoever.

Now, I'm not saying that she isn't right in that our nation's criminal justice system is corrupt.  It is, and very.  But I highly doubt that her husband, a veteran, highly decorated NYPD officer turned private investigator, had no idea that his client was connected to the Chinese Communist Party.  That [!@#$%^&*] might fly on "The Rockford Files," but not IRL.

Whoa. I will be looking into his case. As I said I don’t really follow her, so this is new information for me. How stupid of her husband and how blind of her.

Byrne should just make the leap over to Truth Social and Gttr (or whatever it’s called) where no doubt she would sound like the most sane and rational one on those platforms and they’d be willing to overlook that pesky expectation that an officer of the law would actually adhere to the law. It’s logical that, given her husband’s legal quagmire, she’d be deadly afraid of a former attorney general.

Anyways,

This interview with President Biden really got me at moments.

Considering the target audience for those two channels, is anyone surprised? Most democrats probably never even saw her appearances.

I don't totally agree with Brownstein that this isn't a vindication of people critiquing coverage of Biden's economy - I think whether it's about the vibes or the candidates it all leads back to the same issues with how a Dem-led economy was received and reported on. But either way it's good news.

North Carolina is gone but hopefully Stein can win and they can get a few seats in the legislature to stop a veto proof majority.
