These people making dementia jokes better pray this doesn't happen to them or their loved ones. I lost my grandmother to dementia and it's not a laughing matter. Even to hint that someone has it, without having it... with a humorous or joking dimension... IT'S DISGUSTING.

This is why all the fallout from the debate has helped them so much. They now have cover for all their cheap shots and bile, from the press and from a number of Democrats and their donors. There's a constant drip, drip, drip, for a week now. I saw a hand-wringing piece about how Democrats in rural areas now blame Biden for their inevitable wipeout in November. Today several more big donors like Abigail Disney came out saying they wouldn't support Biden and suggesting Kamala Harris instead. Sanjay Gupta was on CNN calling for extensive cognitive tests of Biden (while paying lip service to Trump already passing those tests). And from what I've read, George Stephanopoulos is grilling Biden about the same "anonymous sources" and claims against his cognition.

This is exactly what they were waiting for to get to repeat the 2016 Hillary playbook. "but her emails" is what people remember, but there were also months of gaslighting about her health. Dr. Drew's interview speculating to no end about Hillary is the exact same line that Gupta is using now about Biden. And it sucks up all the media conversation to where truly alarming stories, like Project 2025, go nowhere.

Some would say, "Well that's why Biden should drop out," but even if he does, they will find narratives against Harris or whoever else, because they love Trump on a personal level and they love the money he printed for them. If we all have to pay the price - any price - they're fine with it. More than fine - they're overjoyed.

They also have forms of government that make these moments easier for them.

Sadly, in the US, the vocal "left" is heavily populated by Trump supporters and sympathizers. Many like Brie Brie, Cornel West, Jimmy Dore, Glenn Greenwald, Matt Taibbi, Jill Stein, etc. would gladly vote for Trump over any Democrat (and likely Bernie too).

That's true in a way, but they have been given so much fodder due to those who are loudly boycotting Democrats due to Gaza and have said they will happily support Trump to send a message. It's a perfect storm. And now the party is so busy being torn apart over whether to support Biden or not that they can't even present a unified front.

    • Roger's return storyline may have been silly but Roger's return was what lead to GL's last golden era.  It was the combination of Roger's return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP that got GL to finally hit it's stride after some really bad years. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during Robert Calhoun's run didn't reflect the quality of the show.
    • He also gave some of the best episodes, like the episodes surrounding Doug's death. The problem with Days was that Ron had a horrible vision from he top. I don't feel the same for MVJ and nothing that has happened in all these months suggests she doesn't have a handle on the show. Now if it becomes an issue I'll acknowledge it, but I'm not seeing it so far.
    • Jean Hackney was awful and that lead to Ben's exit story which sucked. I liked Ben/Val together. Val's love for Ben was that of a grown woman moving on with her life and Ben's love for Val made him willingly decide to raise another man's children as his own.
    • It wasn't just a GL thing, it was an 80s thing. Opulent party scenes on soaps were very big back then. Even in regular episodes where people are just going to dinner they're dressed up like they're going to see royalty.
    • Just started the May 27 episode and first thing I see is that Willow got an ugly haircut since hte last time i watched   I dont have the context for how everthing went down but I know its all Lulu's fault which make her a bish for what she did to Gio
    • I'm pretty sure he was. But point taken. GL really had a thing for masked and costumed balls/parties in the '80's. Everyone looks fabulous, but those poor costume designers.
    • Still here ^^ Come on Prime Video, it's due to bring it back!
    • Got through the eighth season, and it was... painful.

    • I agree 100% with both you and Mitch64.  Soaps have been going further and further off-course since 1981. TPTB just don't have a fundamental understanding of what makes soap fans so loyal. I'd love to be on a writing team with both of you.  Maybe we could put together a real soap opera, and show people what its all about...
    • They weren't in town, but Fletcher worked at the paper (and we saw anniversary Journal headlines for the 50th, although I don't remember if Roger was one of them), and I'd think Alex would have at least heard of him due to the damage he did to Spaulding only a few years before her return to the fold. I know I have to remember it's not real life, of course.
