It's kind of like "not my president".  I understand it, but we are affected by his policies even if we disavow him. The same will be true for the decisions SCOTUS makes unfortunately.

One thing Trump has done is made this a "for us or against us" situation. The lines are pretty damn clear.  Not that long ago we discussed issues in this thread like how undocumented immigrants were easy to exploit by the farming industry.  I was pretty on the fence about what I thought was right. Now,  we have kids in cages, so the economics of any of this is hard for me to worry about.  He have to try to pressure these worthless politicians to do the right thing.

The article about the farmer who is now supporting Phil Bredesen because of Trump reminds me a lot of the old days when we'd hear about this or that rich Republican who was now supporting Hillary. I think he's going to be in for a rude awakening about how many below him on the food chain will still blindly support Trump. These men have lost all control of the monsters they created.

I hate to be shallow, but I just couldn't even stomach watching most of Kavanaugh, who looks like he just got straight off PTL. I'd say he is better than that Comey woman, but they both think I'm going to burn in hell and they're both happy to let the world burn, so I guess it doesn't really matter, it's just a difference of style. I think Trump was never going to pick a woman (at most he might if it's to replace a woman) but beyond that, I have a feeling that for all the slobbering from the right over how she would have made Democrats look like heathens and sexists, McConnell probably knew she stood a huge chance of not being confirmed.

I thought of all the hype of China moving forward in responsible environmental methods when I read this:

I can't stand this type of stuff. I don't know how to make it smaller as I don't see the font control button. I know this is what you get with Politico, but this type of blatant, glib dishonesty (the far right has made it clear they want no moderates and that two of their main goals are to ban abortion and gay marriage and overturn those rulings...and in many areas of the country it is now all but impossible for women to have abortions) is exactly why so many hate the pundit class.

That does not mean the Democratic opposition will refrain from hyperventilating. For some reason, when Democratic presidents place liberal Democratic justices on the Court, Republicans remain calm. They may oppose. They may even oppose when they should not. But the four horses of the apocalypse are kept in the barn, out of sight. The nominees even get a substantial number of Republican votes. Merrick Garland aside, Obama’s two nominees both got 67 votes. But when Republican presidents nominate conservative justices no less qualified, sane, and moderate, the left throws a fit. It matters not who the nominee is.

Please, my liberal friends, calm down.

Abortion is not in danger. Roe v. Wade is an intellectual mess and the practice of abortion is anything but “safe, legal and rare,” as President Bill Clinton wanted it to be. But the Supreme Court as an institution is slow to change and extremely slow to admit its mistakes. I may be a poor vote-counter, but it is hard for me to count five votes for overruling Roe. At most, the Court will continue the path of the past two decades of permitting reasonable regulation but protecting the core of the right to an abortion. And even if I am wrong about that, remember that a reversal of Roe means nothing more than a return to the democratic process. If abortion is as valued as right at Democratic activists claim that it is, there is no need to protect it from the voters. Moreover, technology is quickly making abortion almost impossible to prohibit.

Same-sex marriage is in even less danger. Again, Obergefell was not the best-reasoned of decisions, but there is zero appetite on the right to reverse it. At most, individuals and religious groups opposed to the practice will be protected from being coerced to lend their support or approval. That should have been the law all along.

Maybe they're trying to get out of seeing Trump too...

I think a lot of these are temper tantrums. The right wing in the UK are starting to see the Brexit they wanted is never going to happen. They also don't have the ability to get Theresa May out of office. This is their only way to get attention.

I read that people are denying this. Who knows. I will say if it's true then he is one of the most craven justices ever on the SCOTUS.

I actually agree with you on this. None of them thought leave would win the referendum therefore had no real plan on how to move forward. I can't stand the Tories or May, but they are all cowards, including that buffoon Boris Johnson.  I am no Corbyn fan and lets face it, Labour does not really have a Brexit plan either, and I know another election is no option right now, but right now I'd give anything to see the Tories out period.

I have also read a theory about Kennedy being pseudo forced out due to his sons relationship with Trump via Deutch Bank. Who knows. The suspicious part of all this is that Kennedy did hire law clerks for the next SCOTUS term so something is definitely up.

    • I remember when the whole Missy Reeves controversy started in 2012.  She tweeted support of a business that had made homophobic statements. Greg Rikaart (who was on Y&R back then) publicly called her out on it, but was willing to reach out and speak with her. Article here: https://greginhollywood.com/greg-rikaart-talks-about-his-twitter-war-with-fellow-soap-star-melissa-reeves-over-anti-gay-chick-fil-a-73139 That being said, ten years later, on DAYS, in 2022, when they had they double wedding of Leo/CraigWesley and Gwen/Xander, Jack and Jennifer came to the wedding.  At that time, Missy Reeves was only intermittently available for DAYS. Jennifer was living "in Boston" and Cady McClain and Missy were each intermittently appearing as Jennifer, on the specific occasions when the show required a Jennifer to appear. Missy wasn't on contract and she could have said no. But she chose to appear as Jennifer for the gay wedding of Greg Rikaart's character.   So... I mean... I would assume they reached a détente behind-the-scenes. Missy still has her belief system but there's that.
    • That was one of the best grandslam finals.  Alcaraz comes all the way back down 2 sets to 0, and three match points in the 3rd set, to win it in a 5th set tie-break.  And the quality of play was excellent - so many great shots.  What a battle!
    • Indeed. I may try to watch it in full sometime, but not anytime soon... Mark played Sean Baxter for a few episodes when Courtney married Andy. Burke was either on Broadway or at OLTL at that time, I suppose.
    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair. Mark Lewis was on ATWT? 1986 is not a good year, storywise. No bueno. Muy no bueno.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
