I guess if some of the seats that have turned blue recently could change anyone can.  Still, I am not hopeful that the deep red states will change.  That being they case it seems only fair they share the pain. Even though I live in Nebraska, I don't much care.  Many people in the rural part of this state care more about controlling female bodies than they do about their own economic welfare, so let them feel the pain that priority brings.

This is so reckless on trumps part. While I certainly have no love for a man who hoards 32 billion and counting, while people all over the world die of hunger, my money is on Bezos.

Rebecca Dallet, the Democratic candidate for an open Wisconsin Supreme Court seat, won resoundingly, narrowing the far right majority to 4-3. She was pretty liberal, as she ran anti-Trump ads even though he won the state.

The state has also seemingly voted down the plan Scott Walker was pushing to abolish the office of the treasurer.

This likely won't do much to tamp down the rumors that Paul Ryan is going to retire this year.

I read that Faux News is against the pullout. I guess we know there are some topics even they hold no sway over.

He'll probably try to dump the troops at the border.

(does anyone else wonder if the whole "caravan" story was cooked up by the media with Trump?)

Speaking of awful people:

^ I think the way they framed the "caravan" is the issue.  It seems to me it was a group of scared migrants banding together for safety. Maybe there were some organizers involved hoping to get some positive attention. Trump and his ilk called it an "invasion" to scare people.  It's sad how susceptible people are to these manipulations.

As for Squawk Box I like Andre Ross Sorkin. He's mostly a good guy, although Joe tends to run over him at times.  I remember when I even liked Joe, but he's become the kind of bitter rich white guy that really rankles me.

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.

Article (not that you'd want to read it, just proof that it unfortunately exists) https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/style/trump-style-100-days.html non-paywall copy: https://archive.is/ICe7U
    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
    • Sorry, just one more post on the Thorntons. How did Ruth and Edna feel about each other prior to Tad dating Dotty?
    • I can't remember exactly but I think it may be 1995 as Jake was trying to hide from a loan shark.
