In this case I think it's also the steady stream of women who have come forward about Franken.

It seems unfair to push him out without an investigation, when there's no indication that even Blake Farenhold is going anywhere after payments of hush money are all over the press, but in this case it feels like part of the basic principles that Democrats have vs Republicans. The main time that Democrats refused to go along with a drumbeat was Clinton and impeachment, and the general apathy/quiet disdain that many in the party apparatus seem to feel for the Clintons probably makes them regret that all the more.

I have a lot of respect for what Al Franken did in his years in office, but looking back, given his past working at a cesspit like SNL and some of the stuff he'd written, I think it was a mistake to clear the way for his run. Many could have beaten Norm Coleman in 2008. Franken likely got more support because he was close to Paul Wellstone, but sadly this is about the worst way to honor Paul Wellstone's memory that I can think of.

I deeply admire what Al Franken's done in Congress and I love his other work, but it doesn't surprise me he has skeletons coming out as a comedian of a certain age. I wish he could stay, but given the number of accusers now I don't think we can be equal to the moment (or stand up to the Moore situation) if he doesn't resign. I don't think there's a choice.

That's all probably true, Vee, but why can't I shake the feeling that some of the women who have come forward about Franken are being motivated politically?  To me, this feels less like taking down another, alleged sexual predator and more about taking out someone who posed a challenge to the GOP.

Meanwhile, senior citizens will go after the GOP when they gut Medicare and Social Security, and I. Can't. Wait.

I suspect some are. But that doesn't make the situation any less untenable given the volume of the accusers and where we're at socially in this moment, especially with Roy Moore. All we can do is hope voters remember which party stood with predators and which party tried to clean house of men, however nobleminded, with serious lapses in judgment.

I do think some of this is politically motivated, especially the first accusations. Some of the others I believe.

The sad part is that I've heard people blame the women who came forward about Weinstein for starting this that has led to Franken. This is exactly what the GOP wants - it gets rid of someone they hate and also helps people resent women who have been harassed.

I'm at the point where I think all the people who will be upset over losing their social safety net will still blame Democrats, or still just vote on hating non-whites, abortion and lgbt.

I did laugh at this:

I'm not sure exactly when it aired because I just saw the snippet of it on CNNi newsroom but there was an absolutely insane interview on Anderson Cooper with Roy Moore's spokeswoman. I've never seen anything like it tbh. They're claiming that ten or eleven different groups are all conspiring to bring him down apparently.

It's been getting okay coverage here but I haven't been exactly following it. Is he going to pull it out in the end?

In Australian political news, our marriage equality debate has brought out some more insanity courtesy Bob Katter (a dusty old relic who had to create his own party after the Nationals basically told him to bugger off). He naturally represents Queensland.

The polls suggest that he will.

Al Franken will be gone from the Senate...but Roy Moore will be elected...and Donald Trump will STILL be in office.  It's just so unbelievable.

Trump has more allegations against him than Franken and he is allowed to stay in office without so much as an investigation of the allegations.  I am not sticking up for Franken, but can't come to terms with that, or that Moore most likely will be joining the Senate.  I'm just too f*cking old for this sh*t day in and day out.

    • Not to hijack the thread, but was that character Justine? I just found this interview online with Logan and see what you're talking about - wow!   http://www.anotherworldhomepage.com/chat85.html

    • Where do you discover this crazy rumor??
    • Jill Farren Phelps was always very skilled at saying what she meant onscreen in the bluntest way possible, like whenever she wanted fans to support one character vs. the other (hence Megan McTavish groaning about having to write Kale Browne's Sam Rappaport into three days a week at OLTL). Perhaps you should consider doing the same. Historically your intent is always far more obvious than your efforts at coy embroidery anyway. You believe people are dismissing Phelps' accomplishments, and suggest misogyny and fan blinders allow people to too easily pigeonhole and dismiss her skill set. I think we all understand her varied skill set. We're saying it's not enough to make up for her deficiencies as a storyteller and creative. JFP was undoubtedly a skilled technical producer. As a solo storyteller, and de facto HW, she was a repeat and predictable failure. She was not the first or last EP (male or female) to think she was a writer. If you want us to stop taking your behavior personally when you suggest misogyny is at play in board opinions of JFP, perhaps you should consider spending the next 10+ years here not acting like you're the only one who gets it.

Melissa was here today & we went to Michael's Crafts & Ofc Depot. In Michael's there were two beautiful LITTLE girls who kept staring at me, so I gave them a littel wave & very quietly said HI & then did back. I told Melissa they were staring at me. She smiled & said "Purple. A lot of little girls love purple & you forget but you have purple hair. Seeing you their whole imaginations are transformed! Thinking "That lady has purple hair. That means I can have purple hair! They had no clue before seeing you that it was possible." I just laughed & laughed.
    • This opening scene is hilarious...it's like someone wrote out the script for Philip with one hand. And Rick...sniffing a scarf over and over. And in their next scene they are still sniffing the [!@#$%^&*] scarf as the camera stays all over Philip's bare chest and armpits as he keeps working out. Insane stuff.

Bay City better be ready, because I'm back!   At Vicky's apartment she is once again drowning in doubts and jealousy. Deep down she realizes that her dream wedding will be a farce and nothing can change that. Bridget tries to calm her down, but the heroine is determined to suffer. She is not hearing any positive thoughts. She doesn't believe Jamie will marry her. At the Cory Publishing building another farce is in process. Iris, once again pretending to be the angel of love and sisterhood... is telling Mac and Rachel some wonderful news. When Iris has good news, you really need to look out for yourself. That's when things are bad. So what are the news? Miss Devil has put Amanda up for an award! Mac is smiling from ear to ear, and Rachel is suspicious. Maybe that's the effect Iris is looking for. To once again accent on the fact that Rachel doubts and criticizes her daughter. Iris will do anything to destabilize their relationship. She is like a cancer. Back to Vicky! Jamie is at the door. Looking like a sad puppy, he has come with a surprise. No, he is not gonna leave her and her unborn... Not yet. He has bought her earrings. Sad face. How nice. NOT. Victoria, of course... manages to break one of them the moment she touches it. Bad premonition maybe? She was back in hysterics. It's not easy to trap a man into marriage. Then you have to live with someone that didn't want you in the first place.  We were introduced to a new character (to me at least she is new) - Cass's sister - Stacey. She is giving me "hidden skeletons in the closet"-vibes. Love a girl like that. Stunning actress. I like her. The highlight of the episode was the strange and creepy reveal of Evan the escort... hugging someone named Janice's grave. I remember she had an issue with Rachel... and Rachel killed her in self defense I think... It was hinted in prior episodes, but I lack the context and story. I just know that everyone at the Frame house was mad that Rachel killed the bish. But I also got the impression that this Janice was sick in the head. So Evan is now talking to her grave and telling her he is going to ruin Rachel's life basically. Oh, Evan... I liked you better as a sexy gigolo.  Overall - 10/10 - how can I rate it lower when I haven't watched in months!!!

    • Once again, Marlena and Kayla were used very effectively and I couldn’t be happier.  Marlena counseling Johnny and then Chanel was the best part of today. They’re really delving into the human emotion of this storyline and I think that’s a good thing. It feels so much mature than it was before. EJ’s fear about what could happen to Johnny if he doesn’t let go of his anger could lead to some really good storylines in the future.  I also really appreciate the way that Paula/Jeanne are mixing it up and having different characters interact with each other. It was nice to see Shawn and Johnny remember that they’re cousins and share a scene together. I liked the parallel that was drawn between the two of them, and what’s going on with their fathers. I did have mixed feelings about everything with Cat though. I enjoyed Chanel warning her about EJ, mostly because it played into the way that she was written today. But I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Chad/EJ scenes. The two of them discussing Chad’s potential feelings for Cat didn’t really keep my interest.  But above all, I feel that everyone is being used more effectively and that we’re getting a better understanding of everyone as well. And that was exactly what Days needed.
    • It's a wild story for sure, especially the final conclusion (and fireworks offcamera, like Victoria Wyndham tearing into Michael Logan).
