RHOP
Speaking of RHOP and since I'm off and nicely food coma-ed pre-workout lol...another great episode from start to finish.
I think what I really loved about it was so much was going, but none of it was jarring. And it was classic housewives with it picking up from a cliffhanger, going on with individual scenes which built to an event. And then the event was wild, ending on a good coda. While it all was definitely POTOMAC, it reminded me of when BH held my attention and we would discuss here how very HUNGER GAMES/GAME OF THRONES the show was because it came across as players on a chessboard. Because the dynamic is shifting and it is too soon to tell if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but it definitely is fascinating to watch and not at all toxic. Fingers crossed it stays that way. And what really brought that home to me was the little quiet moment at Karen's Sofia party when Wendy was talking to Tia. And Tia was yes, carrying a bone, but she seemed sincere about trying to rally the women around Wendy with her pending case. And Wendy was equally sincere when she said she honestly felt her only real friends in the group was Stacey and Tia now. And her voice sounded like it. For a moment, it just felt 4th Wall breaking to me and real.
Which of course brings me to Wendy vs Karen at the end. So far, Wendy, to me, has been taking on EVERYBODY. It's...different. But I guess if you have nothing to lose, no reason to sit there on camera and take the BS. And that really makes her a livewire to me and I really can't look away in spite of myself. So her holding her own with Karen was something else. Not that they had not sparred before. But this felt so different level than the others. And I knew coming into this season Wendy vs Karen was definitely going to be there. And...just WOW. Wendy had Karen so pressed and needled KUUUUUREEEN CAME OUT. I was in awe. And don't get me started on Wendy dropping tea...AND Gizelle AND Ashley co-signing. It did not at all end on a good note, but I do want to see where it goes. An activated Karen and a Nothing-to-Lose Wendy already looks like an exciting bout. Cuz if Wendy is going down, she's going down fighting. And Karen...always knows how to return serve.
GIZELLE. She suuuure was quick to get her lick back on Wendy after Wendy made sure she was thoroughly dragged last week. HAHAHAHA. Still...what does it say that it took her gay pal Kal (sporting some INTERESTING shorts) to use common sense on her where it came to the Tia tea. At least she sat down with Tia and apologized. While I'm not sure how I feel about Tia accepting the apology so quickly, Gizelle was just as quick to turn the Tia tea storyline into the Wendy is going to jail storyline. And in the 'kick her when she's down' department, her trying to rub her upcoming trip to DC in Wendy's face was not at all slick. We all know DC trips used to be DOCTOR Wendy's thing. So does Wendy. So I like Wendy caught that as well. And then her co-signing with Ashley about where Karen actually went for rehab was something else. Gizelle is definitely playing the game this week. Not as foul as last week, but it was very noticeable.
STACEY. Now, Stacey, not you already picking on Tia once you are away from her. I was enjoying her with Tia and Wendy last week. But this episode, I guess I can see why that trio will eventually fall apart. Other than that, good to see how she and her ex-husband are navigating things.
WENDY. 'I'm going to check you in this moment'; 'You ain't check s@#$.' LET HER KNOW, DOCTOR WENDY!!! Living up to her just-released tagline, Wendy was giving a show in her showdown with Karen at the Sofia event. And it was good to see Wendy and her mother had made up since that nasty confrontation last season over Wendy's father. But it was watching her weave around with the subtext in the group dynamic going on that was fascinating for me. When she and Tia sat aside during the Sofia event and Tia mentioned how she was trying to rally everyone for Wendy and Tia mentioned how non-committal Gizelle was being, Wendy's antennas went up with the quickness. She should have known really from the moment Robyn Juan's Roommate entered from Stage Right. Still...it was interesting to see it on her face. I liked she caught Gizelle's dig, too. And I can't stress enough how good her vs Karen was. That hurt from the reunion was real. I can't wait until their next showdown.
TIA. Hmm. Lord how her personal storyline is giving. I was happy when she revealed to Stacey and Wendy that she did confront her man. I was in shock that he didn't see anything wrong with it and was just going to leave the profile up until Tia told him to take it down. And then the tea of the fact that he HAS DONE THIS TO TIA BEFORE???? Wait, wait, WAIT!!! And then when Tia reminded the audience of her story with her father last season. Woooooow. I had forgotten about how her father had cheated on her mother for years and had a whole family out there that Tia never knew about. It really adds a whole other layer to her husband out there in them online streets. That said...her look when he came in around the kids was so giving she's angry at being embarrassed on national tv over angry that he might be stepping out. A trainwreck? And then her giving Wendy the heads-up about Gizelle was a nice subtle carrying of the bone. A slight of hand. One that is giving. And it looks like next week she might out-Gizelle Gizelle. I see you, Tia. ;)
ASHLEY. Other than her co-signing of the Karen rehab tea, nothing to see here.
COURTNEY. Honestly, the only false note about the whole episode. It didn't interrupt the flow of the episode, but she really does seem so separated from the group right now.
KAREN. It was interesting how everyone kept commenting on how Grand Dame-ish the Sofia event was. Personally, I felt the theatrics were Grand Dame-ish, but it really did come across all Karen. She has continued to walk that line between who she was and who she is now, and that has continued to make her fascinating. Her, Tia, and Wendy are bringing such duality to themselves this season, and it's really working and showing them as human. Yes, even Karen with her deluded self. lol. We know she's still in there because Robyn Juan's Roommate came for her like she always does and Karen still read her down. And as mentioned, Wendy was calling her out so bad, KUUUUREN CAME OUT. I'm sorry their friendship is going to have a bad end. But it doesn't seem like it is holding the group dynamic hostage for which I am grateful.
So...50Cynt next week for Robyn Juan's Roommate vs Ashley and Gizelle vs Tia. Kandi on BEYOND THE GATES this week. Peaches everywhere!!! Alrighty then!!!
