He's brought in a ton of new characters, although most of them are working out, at least so far. There's a big shift away from many of the characters who had story with Anita Turner. For now the ratings are stable, I'm not sure if gains were expected, or they just didn't want to see more losses.

I love this show. I love the mix of rich and poor, veterans and transplants. There seem to be a lot of good stories on the boil right now. Cain/Charity/Debbie and the rivalry with Carl King (and the fact that he's now Chastity's main squeeze). Ashley the vicar and his crazy ex Sally who has torn his marriage apart without he even realizing it. The Wyldes (all hail the soapiest of soap family names!) and Mark reigniting his affair with Faye just when Faye's son Ryan starts to fall for Maisie. Aaron the butchest bully making a pass at Adam. It's a mix of soapyness and some deft work on the characters. For example, Cain and Charity could easily be pantomime but the actors ground their characters, thanks in part to their love for their daughter Debbie. Meanwhile, I hated/was uninterested in Maisie up until last week. Sure, starting an affair with your best friend's man (who is also your half-brother, not that you know it yet) isn't exactly the surest move to win the audience around. But the writing and performance hinted at layers to Maisie the past few episodes that I did not know she had.

Some of the broad "comedy" elements can be heavy-handed -- there are no brilliant Maggie Jones in this cast, more's the pity -- but at least the writers seem to know at the moment what is driving their show.

Really great episodes last night, better than I'd expected, since the Mark Wylde/Daniel Lamb story has been dragging on. I think soaps at their best are about complex women and we got that in spades with Natasha. The men aren't that interesting in this story, although they're nice to look at.

Maisie's pain was so raw and well expressed.

The ending was a surprise too.

Damn! Natasha doesn't mess around! Don't be getting on her nerves or she'll blow a hole through your skull! Having said that, those Wednesday, Thursday, Friday episodes were the business and Amanda Donohoe rocked them all. Especially when she confronted her whiney children. The actress who played Maisie was also very good but this is Natasha's show. Faye, Ryan and the others just pale in comparision to her intensity. This is going to be like Columbo -- not whodunnit but how are they going to get away with it? If I had been her, I would have dropped the rifle by Mark's body and tried to make it look like suicide. But I guess everything happened in the moment and she wasn't thinking straight. Something tells me that Faye will be a major thorn in her side.

Awww, Katie's so sweet to Ryan. I assume she doesn't realize he had the hots for his half-sister.

No, she has no idea he was involved with Maisie.

I agree about Amanda Donohoe. She was phenomenal on Friday's episode, when you could see how much the contempt from the children was hurting her, and finally she lashed out.

Some said it wasn't believable that she would kill Mark, but I think it was spur of the moment. She had spent months hiding his secrets, and then to hear him say he loved Faye and that he was staying around...it was too much for her.

I thought most of the acting was good (Maxwell Caulfield excluded) or at least got the point across. Some said this couldn't compare to Eastenders, Eastenders is in another league (apparently they forgot the 2008 Christmas/NYE episodes), but they're different shows. If they try to be similar then there's no point in them being on the air.

I can't see how the Wyldes have a long term future in the show but I'm hoping we will see more of their dynamics now that Mark is gone.

I know, I wish I could find Friday's episode and upload it here. IA Maxwell Caulfield, bless him and his little toupee, was bad. But maybe that's the point. Mark has never been comfortable in his own skin, he has played a role all his life.

The Wyldes may not have a long-term future, I'm sure Natasha will be caught or something. However, this is an enjoyable soapy story arc and I will enjoy it. Emmerdale does great when it has these "lords of the manor" swanning around the village with their money and secrets.

Oh the men on Emmerdale are cute, but not too many that drive me wild. I'd say Maxwell Caufield has gotten better with age. He pulls off the aging hunk thing well, but his toupee's are troubling. I like the actor who plays Cain and the two asian brothers. John Barton is of course very cute. Hollyoaks has the sexiest men, IMO.

    • The way this show handled Nikolas' shooting Hayden, Austin's murder, the long slow delay to getting rid of Cyrus, etc. we're likely to have it revealed in a year when Nina is 3 weeks away from leaving and has had minimal airtime.
    • Interesting. I love my Roku.  No, I don't know. Who? I mean Disney def does. I would think a number of parties have stocks.
    • Is he still spamming demands that they hire the campy chick from The Haves and Have Nots? Or whichever show it was. I don't think it's an either/or. I happen to think Dana, Dani, Eva, Nicole, Kat, etc. are all great. Certain folks aren't going to be some posters' favorites and that's fair enough. But I would argue most of those characters above (and several others) have caught on with a lot of the online audience. I've even warmed up to Martin!
    • We get it, you don't like this show or the actors. You've said that over and over again, Mr. Vanguard America/VDARE.
    • Lol at the WSB hot guy asking Joss if she was okay with betraying her friends.  Of course she is! Chase coming in hot at Dante was a choice. It's also quite hypocritical since Chase is lying to him about Dante's own child and making Lulu the bad guy.  Talk to the grown woman yourself Chase.  Don't make Dante do it. Lulu and Laura had some great scenes. The Rocco/Danny party is obvious an anvil for something happening and probably the Gio secret coming out. The Willow/Drew/Nina scenes were kind of anti-climatic?  I get why Nina chose this path as the way to get rid of Drew, but will anyone ever find out Drew was sleeping with Nina?
    • I was reading the NYT article on Roku's purchase of FrndlyTV. As anyone who has read my posting knows, I think re-airing old soaps is an imprudent idea. However, I will admit that if large media companies are looking for more streaming content.  And, if advances in AI continue to make the digitization process faster and cheaper.  Those of you who want the owners of the IP to release anything in their vaults may have reason to be hopeful.  Because the makers of TV's want to get into streaming in order to encourage young people to get back in the habit of updating their TV devices every few years.  And, Roku's plan is market exclusive content, that you have to buy a Roku device to view.  And you-know-who has a ton of content to sell.
    • This was  the messiest hour of television I’ve seen since Kenya Moore asked “who is this hoe?”
    • details of the current Health Secretary RFK Jr's insane beliefs - Doesn't believe that germs cause illness; suggests HIV doesn't cause AIDS; suggests antidepressants are behind mass shootings; believes that vaccines are harmful; suggests chemicals in water are changing children's gender identities... and is quick to promote supplements to prevent and treat diseases, such as recently recommending vitamin A for measles and falsely claiming children who die from the viral infection are malnourished. https://arstechnica.com/health/2025/04/rfk-jr-s-anti-vaccine-stance-is-rooted-in-a-disbelief-in-germ-theory/

I missed the reference at the time, but those DAYS writers really like jokey character names.
