OLTL: OMFG, Fortieth Anniversary Spoilers From TV Guide

Blast From the Past

Long before Passions came along, One Life To Live was Daytime's wildest soap......especially back in the Reagan era, when Viki(Erika Slezak) had an out of body experience during brain surgery and wound up on a space ship to heaven. To celebrate the ABC soap's 40th anniversary next month, OLTL head writer Ron Carlivati will revisit the celestial 1987 plot by having Vicki die........just momentarily of course! "This time, heaven will be a very modern high rise.......Vicki will go up the elevator encountering all sorts of dead characters along the way," said Carlivati. Among the former stars making angelic returns are Phil Carey(Asa), Mark Derwin(Ben), Stephen Markle(Mel), and Jessica Tuck(Megan). OLTL's legendary creator, Agnes Nixon, will also appear in heaven. That's not all. Carlivati will redo the famous 80's plot where Tina(Andrea Evans) survived a plunge over the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, only this time, creepy Carlo(Thom Christopher) will force Tina to watch in horror as he sends her daughter Sarah(Justis Bolding) over a waterfall. Fan favorite John Loprieno will return as Tina's ex-hubby Cord. And remember the time Clint(then Clint Richie) was knocked unconscious and time-traveled to the Wild West? Carlivati will riff on that plot too. "Bo(Robert S. Woods) and Rex(John-Paul Lavoiser) are hit by lightning and wake up in 1968............the same year OLTL hit the air," Carlivati say. The kicker: Bo has become his pop, Asa, and Rex has become the young Bo. All three homages air July 21-22, but the Bo-Rex twist will play out for several weeks, maybe with dire consequences. Say Carlivati: "If they can't find their way back to the future, Rex will be drafted and sent to Vietnam."

We could just bring back Torpey as Jessica, reveal Bree is Natalie (I buy Erin and Bree as twins!) and get Archer out of the Buch house?

Are we in agreement now?

Gosh no, I adore MA as Natalie and I love Natalie/Jared. If they replace anyone let it be Bree if Erin wants to come back. They can send Jessica away for therapy and when she comes back she can be Erin as Jessica.

Should MA ever leave, ET would make the perfect Natalie recast!

I'm sorry but that would be dumb. That's like what GH did with bringing Sarah Brown back as a whole new character.

IMO Erin IS Jessica. She never got much of a chance to play Jessica as an adult, I'd love to see that.

Natalie could stick around but as Roxie's daughter

I loved ET as Jessica, but I didn't hold her as dear as some people did, mainly because I didn't watch her grow up on screen. I'm gonna enjoy seeing her again, though, so bring on the Torpedo!

I wonder if they recast Starr in a couple of years, would people be calling for KA to come back? I probably wouldn't.

ITA! I hate, hate, hate, with the heat of a million suns, the notion of taking an actor or actress who is *known* for a particular role on a particular soap and then bringing them back to play a completely different character who has absolutely nothing to do with their original character.

Bree is Jessica to me. Hell, I watched Erin Torpey grow up on the show, and I'll always see her as the "younger" Jessica. I instantly took to Bree, but always compared her to Erin.....but that stopped years ago. If Bree were a terrible recast, I'd see people wanting ET to come back, but IMO, Bree is a great jessica recast.

This is hypocritical of me....but I'd be all for Heather Tom coming back to Y&R as Victoria.....podVicky ain't cutting it for me.

ET is/was sexy as hell! Especially her last year. Now she's even more beautiful.(check out her site if you don't believe me)

And I agree Darn, it is brilliant.

Don't get me wrong, but for the longest time I'd resented Bree because I'd seen her as a less talented but more "runway" style of Jess. Only recently have I come to see that Bree is talented and has made Jess her own.

As for Erin, I'll take her however they are willing to give her to me.

I just don't see BW ever leaving or them getting rid of her. Plus I've hated MA since she first came on to the show, and I never bought her as Vicki or Clint's daughter. But I could see ET coming back as Natalie, and adding some layers to the role, unlike MA. Plus the twin thing with Natalie and Jessica would be more believable.

I MUCH prefer Bree Williamson as Jessica. I really could not stand Erin Torpey towards the end

How is the twin thing with Nat and Jess as it is now, not beleivable? They are fraternal twins with different fathers. They are half sisters who were raised apart in very different conditions. The way it is now with them is great. They dont need to look alike or being more like each other

I thought I would post this here since this is the main OLTL 40th Anniversary thread.

Just taped an episode on the set of OLTL yesterday. I was just an extra on the "Paris Cafe" set so I did not do much but it was a very long day of taping. I did not understand too much of what was actually going on in the scenes because they are playing out the past (with past characters) but the characters are being played by currect OLTL characters. I dont know too much about the history of OLTL so I did not understand too much of it but here goes anyway.

I forgot what year it was but apparently they are doing SL in the year 1966 (Or somewhere around that year) and they have the characters of Asa, Renee, Emma, Spencer, Bo, Clint and Maria. Those were the past characters there were also some newer characters. I got to meet such nice people like John Paul Lavsier (sp), Farrah Fath, Melissa Archer, John Brotherton and Bob Woods. It was kind of neat to see the currect actors play out past storylines, I think thats a pretty genious and unique way of telling a story. All the storylines going on in the set seemed to be a reflection of the storylines going on currently on OLTL. John B, Melissa and John P were about the sweetest things on the planet, they seemed to be really tight too the guys were entertaining the girls between takes the entire time. Let me say that Farrah Fath and Melissa Archer are two incredibly beautiful woman and just fun loving gals.

Farrah was playing a character named Emma who had a son Spencer, not sure who these two characters are really or if they are currently on the show or not. It seemed very interesting. Melissa was playing a character named Maria and John B. was playing Clint. From what I could gather Clint and Maria had a steamy affair against the approval of Clint's father Asa (played by the charasmatic Bob Woods). John and Melissa were having so much fun with it, it was obvious, not really sure if their real characters on the show mirror their 1966 characters but basically they were having this steamy romance and Asa did not like it or approve of it.

There are not too many characters involved in the 1966 storyline, or atleast there were not yesterday when I was there it was just Asa, Renee, Bo, Emma, Spencer, Clint and Maria. Thats all I have really, its not a lot but I really could not understand too much given I have no idea who most of these past characters are or what their stories were.

Hey, if Asa, baby Megan, Ben, Mel, and maybe Sloan appear when Viki goes to heaven, will they actually appear in any scenes with Viki, or will they be forced instead to share all their scenes with Cristian, Sara, Antonio and Talia?

Hmm...so we have young Spencer Truman and his mother....and probably around the time of David Vickers' conception...

Wow...they are really mining the history. The ill-fated romance that produced Cord. Can't wait to see JB doing cowboy Clint and MA doing Maria...before she went obsessively bonkers and got herself killed. :P

Which means Bob Woods will have to sleep with Farrah Fath, right?

Unless JPL does, and in NuLlanview (!!!) adult David Vickers will be BO'S kid, and not Asa's.

My head hurts...

^^^ :lol::lol:

Well, Asa did have a penchant for younger women...Samantha, Mimi, Delila, Becky Lee, Blair...

I think one of the things that's a little weird, too, is that if we round Asa's age off to, let's say, 80 when he died, then he would have been 40 in 1968, early forties at most. RSW just turned 60.

Incidentally, today is Phil Carey's 83rd birthday! :)
