OK Overall I lvoed this and Friday's episode. Yeah you had to suspend disbelief a bit (lot?) and I'm not quite sure what I think of the CGI with the helicopter though it was better done than I expected...

But overall I loved so much about these episodes... I'm a huge fan of Julia--in the 90s as a teen she was a fave of mine--and I was always annoyed with how little they used her. ANd while she has had nothign to do for ever since being back, I really well miss her and found her scenes really moving and sad. That said I think it made sense to kill her off--the Santos really have no ties to the show anymore... I wonder what will become of my beloved Wildwind.

As much as I normally HATE ghost storylines on fairly 'realistic" soaps I have to admit this Dixie one has won me over--ironic that they write her well and with a purpose now when they enver were able to before.

I also think that all this shows what B/E as headwriters are capable of - I have no idea why it took so long. Just really reallydepressing that now we know they've been fired and we have Pratt to look forward to (I hope the British soap writer who was hired as consultant very recently stays on as maybe he can give it some more family/smaller town balance)

WHat here in Canada for some weird reason the episode OPENED with the AMC credits, -- what is this opening you're talking about...

I'm trying to think of who I woulda rather seen Julia's scenes with--even Josh woulda been a much better fit for me--they had great chemistry and a good understanding of each other

You know I disagree. I almost am happier to go out with some meaty material than with a whimper and just move away never to return (since the Santos are no more). This has been one fo the best death scenes on AMC in AGES--certainlybetter than what we got ironically for DIxie

The sad thing abotu Julia was they ahd her mention creating a clinic at WIldwind and I thougth maybe Angie could work there and B/E were working on a setup much like Angie had with her clinic on The City but nothing came of that.

What did bug me about Kendall/Ryan today was they mention Julia's dieing briefly and are worried but MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH more worried and upset about Greenlee finding out about Aiden sleepign with Kendall. Just seemed odd balance

Of course it was over the top. It's supposed to be over the top. That's why it's called action.

It's over the top when they do it on Lost or Heroes or Grays or Alias or ER or any of the other millions of shows where some ordinary man has managed to hang on to a ledge or a rope by one hand in spite of the fact that he's never done so much as a sit up.

You never watched The City or B/E's stunning work on the LovingMurders did you? yes that was a long time ago but it' sbeyond ridiculous to not give them any credit for things that work--especially when we know how Frons works and dictates.

Can someone explain what was the opening that the local Canadian affiliate here didn't show? The ep started with the credits here

I loved the opening that way...it got me right into the episode.

As a Y&R boy, dissatisfied with my show a bit, I am in love with AMC these days. There's Jesse and Angie! I remember them! GREG NELSON! With Opal! I remember those good days. Tad is front burner! Yee-haw. Julia. Dr. Joe. Jackson. I recognize this canvas! Ricky Paull...he's a favorite!

But you know what really drew me in? You'll think me a "style over substance" guy, but I'm really not. I LOVED THAT CGI HELICOPTER. The filmlook (which they really seem to have gotten the hang of) and the CGI and the vets and the action (Jesse FLYING through the air!)...totally drew me in.

I compare these production values...which are great...to GL (which disappoints me), and I think "Thank God AMC still shows signs of INVESTMENT". Between actors, creative leaders (Chuck Pratt ain't cheap), and even this CGI...this is a show that still seems like someone cares about it. Greg Nelson! What a joyous thing to behold.

Frankie seems TERRIFIC, by the way. He is an actor with presence...worthy of his on-screen parents.

ETA: Only Lee Merriweather is a false note here. Given Ruth's AMAZING history with the Gardner clan...Ray RAPED her...we should have seen her more front and center as the emotional core of this story.

I guess Lee is still grey? It's hard to see her with that bad wig.

Yes but for some reason Victoria's A Channel didn't get it. We had the credits, no pre credits and then right into the story. What's this "3 pairs of lovers" stuff??

Lee is still normally grey but I thought hs edyed her hair--id' lvoe to see her more. (or the character more to be honest). They did give her one scene going on about the rape a few weeks ago but yeah...

Remember last Memorial Day (or was it the year before?) when they had like a 2-3 min. review/summary of the major storyline going on (Kendall's womb/Greenlee's egg/Ryan's sperm)? They did that again this year. They summarized what was going on right now, in case people just starting to watch for the summer can catch up. They showed the three main love storylines going on right now: Angie/Jesse (showed clips of them reuniting, Jesse being tortured, getting ready for wedding, Rob looking for the diamond, etc).....Zendall/Ailee (the ONS).....and Tad/Dixie/Kathy (Clips from all years...then Ghost Dixie/Adam...and Kathy/Tad). Then they went into the opening credits....then the real show.

I'm writing a series of essays about the first time of a LGBT character in US soaps. I already have datas about Sharon Duvall in DAYS (1977) as first Bisex, Lynn Carson in AMC (1983) as first Lesbian, Hank Elliott on ATWT (1989) as first Gay (someone have or can find the episode in which Paul Ryan finds out about Hank and does not take it very well? I have seen Hank's coming out to Iva and when Hank gets a bullet to save Paul's life from the latter evil father and when he gets tested for HIV after finding out Charlie's diagnosis, but Soap Opera Digest recaps are too much concises...) and Billy Douglas on OLTL (1992) as first LGBT teen in both daytime and primetime TV (I have seen all the episodes on You Tube. BTW, what a great storyline, why it was ignored by the Emmys? Andrew Carpenter and Billy's father players are both really great in their roles! Oh, well, if OLTL was not nominated for Best Drama in 1994 with Marty's gang rape story which won four major awards and was spectacular, no surprise at all - sadly) and I have read something about Azure in The City (1996) as first Trans, but I'd like to see the episode where Bernado finds out and Azure confirms what is said in that newspaper to have something to quote. I like quoting, it gives the essays more depth. I already read the biweekly recaps from Soap Opera Digest on Tumblr and single episodes recaps on IMDB, but I'd like to have more to write about. And something more about critics and public opinions - I only knows that the storyline was rapidly axed because of bad writing and bad performance by Carlotta Chung, but I have nothing to quote.   PS Thank you @JAS0N47 for your incredible and rich site (and work on it). In particular for the Nielsen ratings on weekly basis lists since 1974 and for everything about Sharon Duval - specially for the script of the confession episode dated 23 May 1977! I'm not a DAYS viewers (I'm Italian, I live in Italy and on You Tube there is almost nothing if not short videos), but I've seen some clips of Marlena's first possession (Deidre Hall is terrific in it! Storyline is garbage, but it has its chilling moments and it is funny - I laugh everytime I remember Kristen say to Marlena "according to the book of demonology"! Was she an espert of demons or what!? ) and read on Soap Opera Central daily recaps about infamous Melaswen (brainwashed Marlena has a particular sense of humor - killing ex alcoholic Maggie with a bottle of wine and Alice with her donuts...), so I know something about the soap. Little, but better than nothing.

    • I'm curious the motivation for keeping Bela on beyond the circus story arc.  Did he play a character like his character on EON, or was he more of a good guy? I know he ended up with Sunny at the end of the series, but I always thought that Sunny/Hogan could have been revived once the lack of chemistry between him and the NuLiza became apparent.   Actually... the NuLiza (Louan Gideon) reminded me more of Sunny than she did Liza as played by Sherry... and she just threw off the whole vibe of the show. I see Estelle has just arrived in the late October 1985 episodes, which only means that Wendy and Stephanie are soon on their way out.   It also appears that the Sarah/Quinn/Wendy triangle was set up by Mayer.. and it looks as though Tomlin is going to deactivate it by the introduction of Colleen Dion's character.   I don't understand why no one on the show thought to look at Quinn and realize that he was the problem and write him out.

    • I kind of assume they're toning down Rachel's bad seed tendencies a bit to make it less obvious if they're going for her as the shooter. At least that's what I hope they're doing - I've really enjoyed Rachel being a bratty evil DiMera princess and Marlena finally getting a grandchild she deserves.

. This show is so stupid. Sonny killed an FBI agent less than a year ago by shooting him at point blank range. But the new short bald man is much much worse cause he was a bad guy in some part of Africa and managed to not kill Lucky, Isaiah, Jason, or Anna. This show is crippled by the mob all these years after Guza has been long gone.    Laura is literally saying oooo but Sonny is a good mobster for Port Charles. Give me a [!@#$%^&*].ing break. Sometimes I don’t know why I watch this joke of a show.
    • With all the changes Sunny was one of the longest running characters by that time.  She had never been married and had heaps of story potential. I can see America getting with SFT -you know 'the circus soap'. Smart move because circuses were all the rage with the kids in the 80's. Maybe Stu and Jo could have bought the circus.
    • It is actually pathetic, that Victor’s 50 year old children are still written as scared of this man that has to sit in every scene. I get it, EB has been on the show for almost 50 years, but I don’t care. He’s a man in his 80’s and should not be the damn lead and driving force because you don’t want to upset Eric Braeden ‘s fragile ego that only exists because the writers have cowtowed to this man for so long.
