I think at the start of the storyline, Gina mentioned that there had been medical advances made which is why she was thinking of having a child. Though, it was definitely a minor detail that was never explored or developed further.

I know this is unpopular, but I've enjoyed the bulk of what I've seen of the Dobsons 1991 run, but more scenes than storylines. As someone who doesn't live, eat, and breath Cruz and Eden, I find the final Eden storyline captivating in terms of the Eden is Channing, Jr. personality. Those scenes are just wonderful. Louise Sorel is also given some wonderful drunken monologues as she stumbles into a hospital room and laments on her life.

I think the trial for Dr. Jameson running down Santana plays on the show's history nicely. I think the shooting of Mason leads to some nice courtroom drama as well. I don't hate Mason / Cassandra / Warren the way others do, but they do take up so much of the storyline. There are also way too many storylines that introduce international characters strictly to appear in criminal storylines or act as pure agitators.

That said, to get through these scenes, you often have to put up with waste of space scenes with characters like Katrina and Dash or Eileen Davidson's Kelly. I also am not a huge fan of the Michael Brainard in those early scenes.

I wouldn’t say I hated the story. I liked the 2nd generation of the Lockridge/Capwell feud in theory but they lost me because they said outright Mason never loved Cassandra. If he did, his scheming would have made more sense. Mason allowed Cassandra to believe she was in love with her nephew just to spite Warren and only told her the truth once he had a real chance of getting Julia back.

In all fairness, almost the entirety of the character of Ted was down to Todd McKee being so damn charming. Because otherwise, correct me if I am wrong, but I remember him being written as a pretty generic not-very-bright romantic-lead-type most of the time, without the kind of layers they allowed someone like Eden.

THANK GOD FOR THAT! (Sorry. But I HATED that Cassie basically skated in sabotaging Mason/Julia, and was never discovered.) So the fact that Mason basically toyed with her, I just consider well-deserved karma.

And I also hated that Warren/Lionel were undone as father and son just to service Cassie's psycho assss.

She got everything she deserved.

And the show had the actors who could have been super couple stability. TPTB certainly originally played up CC and Sophia. I mean they were on Dr. Ruth for crying out loud!! And Mason and Julia were SCORCHING. And Lionel and Augusta could have been if they'd thrown money at LS to keep her- like they should have.

Augusta to CC after the divorce, "CC, I have just erased 26 years from my life. And that means I have never met you. And I don't speak to strange men. Goodbye."

CC,"26 plus years? You must be 6 years old."

Augusta, "You're so transparent you’re about to disappear."

Gawd I love 1986!

Well, we know TPTB gave Santa Barbara six months to wrap things up, so if this was produced during the final six months of production, then it would make sense. And I completely agree! If this were today, the Capwell mansion would just be that couch in an empty room, made for two or three people. Shame, because the set was a classic soap opera set. Not to mention, we had a kitchen (which, in my opinion, did not match the entrance and living parlor), which I feel is rare in soap operas.

Oh I didn’t remotely like or root for Cassandra. Just meant that Mason’s motivations didn’t make sense in that story. Plotting against Cassandra would have worked for me too but I don’t think they were going for that either.

I think they were just very intent on writing Mason as a cartoon villain that year without providing a real explanation why he was alienating everyone. Then they walked back on it without stating what caused the change and he suddenly won Julia back and was getting along with the other Capwells.

I wish I had a kitchen like that. But Days and Another World had kitchens. At least I remember Alice Horton in a kitchen. And the McKinnons spent a lot of time in Vinces kitchen. And didn't the Frame farmhouse have a kitchen?

The living room at the Capwells was very nice. Judith McConnell got great furniture from that set.

I do remember Gina and Meghan drunk on that blue sofa and Gina telling Meghan to give up because in the end, she will always be the second choice.

    • Sorry, I don't know the non-AW ones. In addition to the 2x Cass disguised himself as Krystle (1984 to hide from Tony Jones, 1994 investigating Felicia's disappearance), there was one occasion in October 1987 where Cass imposter Rex Allingham dressed as a woman and, claiming to be Nicole's Aunt Blanche, disrupted her date with another man. (At the time I don't think the audience yet knew that it wasn't Cass.)
    • THANK YOU SO MUCH. If there was any way we could sticky this post or make it so we don't forget where it is. I'm going to bookmark it for sure! AND WOW... Season 15 - nearly a whole month of skipped episodes. LOL.
    • JFP was only as strong as her writers, which is why her output got worse and worse when she decided she was the only writer anyone needed. They could have easily had a decent short-term story with Lando - maybe cast him as a terminal patient at Cedars, or a long-lost Bauer or Reardon who would leave town after his story is done and possibly return at a later date with a recast. He might become close to Ed and Michelle, similar to how Ed had taken Kelly under his wing years earlier. Maybe he could have been tied to Maureen's death, somehow - maybe we'd learn, after he ingratiated himself to everyone in Springfield, that he accidentally ran Maureen off the road during the storm. And when he realizes this he would, in shame, leave town, maybe leaving some Springfield lady devastated if they were about to get married (this could have worked with a better Mindy recast, or maybe a brand new character).
    • Notes I've made of skipped or faulty YouTube episodes are (I'll put in brackets the faulty ones, the rest are skipped episodes), that would be amazing if they could be replaced by higher quality Netherlands copies when they become available:

S13: 3170, 3172, 3181 (faulty), 3203 (faulty), 3223 (faulty), 3255, 3278 (faulty), 3345, 3361 (faulty) S14: 3399, 3455 (faulty), 3479 (faulty), 3509 (faulty), 3555 (faulty end credits), 3580, 3600 (faulty), 3613 (faulty) S15: 3658 (faulty), 3667, 3668, 3669, 3670, 3674, 3678, 3679, 3681, 3682, 3684, 3685, 3686, 3690, 3692, 3694, 3696, 3697, 3699, 3709 S16: 4058, 4059, 4109 S17: 4137, 4194, 4262, 4284, 4358, 4362, 4371 S18 so far skipped: 4450, 4451. There may be further S18 episodes to replace in English if there are any further skips on YouTube, as many episodes from this season are just in German in the vault, and if they skip those, then we probably have to wait for an eventual Netherlands airing unless someone currently has them in English (currently the German ones needing to replace to full English for S18 are: 4477, 4485, 4486, 4492, 4493, 4494, 4497, 4514, 4515, 4518, 4520, 4522, 4523, 4524, 4526, 4531, 4538, 4541, 4575, 4612 - hopefully YouTube will not skip these, and they won't be a problem to fix). Also, jumping ahead a bit to future seasons, but does anyone have full English speaking copies of any of 4852, 4897, 5275, 5308, 5590, 5591, 5594 (as these are not in full or at all in English in the vault as far as I can tell)? Many thanks if you do! A million thank yous to all Angels helping out with these.

    • I found the reference in the AWHP synopses -- it was 1995 but not directly related to the loanshark.

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.  It just seems that Rea was minimized during JFP's tenure because I can't imagine her okaying so many of these casting choices.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
