I almost sympathize with them, actually; they had to give Best Show to someone, but ATWT is not the choice unless you isolate only Nuke. Everything else on the show is a disaster. And while I love what's happening to OLTL, this change has only happened in the last few months; it wouldn't be right to give it Best Show this year. And clearly, someone is pissed enough about the Latham-ization of Y&R and refuses to give it to them (and I admire that conviction), so really, who's left? Not GH, which even they can't stomach giving it to anymore. Not AMC. Not DAYS which has been deeply troubled at best and is still fighting for life and again, only just now improving.

I have to say, I would've given it to Y&R or DAYS and gotten egg on my face before giving it to ATWT though.

You said it perfectly...they had to give it to somebody or be bold enough to be honest and say that no soap was the best...I almost wish they had just picked apart each soap and pieced together some Frankenstien Monster of a best soap...I agree on ATWT, I LOVE the NUKE stuff but people tied to train tracks and sinking in quicksand are not a part of any soap I consider THE BEST...I only watch pieces of ATWT, Y&R (until recently when I sort of catch it when I can), and Hollyoaks (every second of it) so I can't judge anything but those soaps but I have tons of soap watching friends and they all agree it was a sad sad year for the genre...when the best soap I watch is from The UK and isn't even shown on TV but is streamed online that's pretty sad! :(

i agree. however i do still think its the best soap on the air right now. its a sad day in soapworld when a borring show is the best show. the only comp it has is B&B. And i love how campy and fun yet dramatic and soapy B&B is. but really, no soap deserved best soap. they should have given it to reruns of something on soapnet.. oh wait, they dont rerun classic soaps.

B&B has been phenomenal lately: great balance, fresh stories, fast-moving plots & superb casting additions (Heather Tom, Patrick Duffy). It's a class apart from the rest of daytime right now and should be recognised as such.

While I enjoy B&B for what it is, I think it's a class apart because it's high camp and always seems to be. I see no sign of the really amazing writing Mulcahey did at GH, but I do see a fairly fun series of campy stories with a mixture of great actors (Flannery, HT, deVry, Lesley Ann Down and Wagner) and horrible but fun ones (Ronn Moss, KKL - sorry, but it's how I feel, and Jennifer Gareis). I can't take that show seriously because in every episode, each character repeats the same plot point line to drive the current themes home about six times per episode, twenty to thirty times a week. I can't count how many times I heard about how "when Donna goes up on that riser with Eric..." before the fashion show.

Also, those fashions were awful.

Preach it! I started watching ATWT for the Luke stuff, but man, the rest of the show is snoozeville. And I used to really love ATWT back in the day.

I don't watch GL, but I can't imagine any show being more 'disappointing' than AMC. I still watch it, but it's just not AMC anymore.

The Jack and Carly story on ATWT is unbelievably bad. I don't know how anyone can see Carly as anything but a psycho after that big wedding reveal. Also bad is anything with Aaron and Alison, or those n00bs. I don't even understand the quad with Paul, Rosanna, Craig and Meg. Why did they dump Cady? How the [!@#$%^&*] did Meg get involved with Craig? How on Earth? And why haven't they dumped Howarth?

It's sad when the most compelling performers in the "Carjack" story are Parker and JJ, or as I call them, Jack and Carly's lesbian daughters.

I watch both, and trust me DOOL is way better. Not that they use all their oldtimers, but they at least use some. And some is better than none (see GH for none).

Tony, Maggie and Anna are tragically wasted, but Bo, Hope, Steve, Kayla, Roman and Stefano are at least seen. They're not Sami, Shawn, Belle and EJ, but their presence is at least felt. This last week has been nice for Marlena fans, and depending on whether you consider Lauren Koslow a vet or not, Kate has been back in action recently. I do think Maggie is the biggest waste. I would love to see more of Doug and Julie, especially since Doug has to be the most spry 80 yr old on TV.

But Jackie Zeman just got dropped from her contract, Stuart Damon was dropped before her, Tristan Rogers was dropped from his recurring status, and Jane Elliot, Leslie Charleson and John Ingle are at the mercy of Tony Geary's contract on GH. If any of these people got Alfonso or even Deidre Hall airtime, it would be an exponential growth of seismic proportions.

    • It's funny you say that because part of the entertainment of the trials on the show are all the day players who come on as witnesses and jurors.  I'm certain it was like the Law and Order of its time. It employed so many New York actors, that if you look close enough, there's usually someone vaguely recognizable in the courtroom.
    • I will defend Dante.  People already suspect he may be a bit unstable from time to time (from his time as a prisoner).  And, he's taking care of other people's kids from time to time.  So, he has reason to be cautious with those in his care.
    • Josh continues to try and milk Abbott/Newman rivalry. First it was Billy/Victoria, then Kyle/Summer, then Noah/Allie (that worked out well) and now Kyle/Claire. Do we have any inkling when Billy Flynn will arrive and who he will play? I'm sure Cole's illness will mostly play offscreen. What's in store for Nick and Sharon? Is it time to put them back together? I can't see any other romantic options. Nick has no children on the canvas to play off, as Christian is never seen. Sharon has only Mariah onscreen.
    • I would appreciate (if they're not coming), for future scripts to refer to them by their iconic hairdos.  For example, if Hope needs to call Chelsea because Bo has Sepsis, I'd like Shawn-D to say, "My Mom called Chelsea (the one with the sassy short black hair) for an update." Also, new rule, if Melanie does return, she needs to dye her hair back to red.  I googled who she was five times during Victor's funeral.

    • Broderick, thank you for all of the info [I edited for space]. I am so grateful for everyone filling in the blanks for me. I suspected the Nora/Eliot scene was very important and it was setting something up but I didn't know what. Can't wait to see it play out. The two actors had such a great back and forth. I should have made the Paige/Patty Hearst connection. I thought Paige was in love with Brian from the first episode I watched but it seemed as if they were brother and sister. Steve kept being affectionate with her so I assumed he was the love interest. Then she was affectionate with someone else and well..she's a very busy woman. I can't wait to see Frances Fisher show up. (I'm trying to be vague because I don't know what would be a spoiler in this storyline) Now it makes sense why Draper would be upset. I didn't get the whole background of why he didn't go to NY. I'm a sucker for good acting, so I might still side with April and Margo, if the writers don't give Draper more to do besides yelling.  He had more chemistry with Logan, but I know that's not happening.  Something else I noticed: the show really takes care with even the smallest parts. The acting is superb. Too often, I noticed on older soaps they don't take care with the recurring or day players (Ryan's Hope was so bad with this that I couldn't make it through some episodes). It's only been six episodes, but so far, the casting department was spot on.
    • I thought Dante was overreacting.  Gio made some mistakes but he's young and he tried.  It's not like he dragged two 14 years to a party and made them get blackout drunk.  Dante can have the initial upset reaction, but to go on and on was a bit much.
    • His (adoptive) nieces.  Chelsea and Stephanie.  I think Abby was involved too, but I am not sure if they are related lol.
    • That was such a dark story. I never liked Swamp girl after that. And then the dating your cousin thing. I think wasn’t Max in a triangle with two of his cousins?
    • Thank you, @j swift.  I'm probably more sympathetic to Draper Scott than most audience members are -- even though I'm absolutely CRAZY about Ann Williams & her bizarre Margo Huntington character

The more I watch these episodes -- and I've watched several of them a zillion times, I'm ashamed to admit -- you realize there's a WHOLE lot of passive-aggressive hostility brewing inside Margo Huntington about Draper.  She wants to take April AWAY from him and recreate the childhood that she never got to experience with April, because of the adoption 25 years ago.  Draper has sense enough to realize how heartless and vindictive Margo really is about other people's lives and their feelings, but he bites his tongue rather than poison his wife's mind about how horrible her mother really is.  And I admire him for that.  He's a sweet boy.
    • Unfortunately, as the 90s wore on, Felicia started wearing as many gray and neutral tones as Giorgio Armani and Donna Karan could produce, and the shoulder pads deflated to a drop sleeve.
