Actually, I DO remember...even though it was a long time ago. I had a leg in a cast. so I was housebound. I was flipping channels, and saw this scene of a man walking into a murder trial. He took off a wig and was revealed to be the victim. It seemed interesting, so I tuned in the next day to see what was going on. The character was John Dixon from "As The World Turns", and I've been watching ever since.

I'd been catching glimpses of All My Children and General Hospital since birth, because those were my mother's soaps. I have some very fuzzy memories of Dixie and Tad on AMC, and Emily on GH. But the first time a show really caught my interest, and made me want to watch, was during Lucky and Liz, v. 1.0. Lucky was singing the song he wrote for her. I was captivated.

I remember a scene from Y&R where Jill picked up a letter opener as Katherine delivered some monologue facing away from her.

This scene started in one episode and left with Jill approaching a clueless Kay with the knife.I raced home the next day to see what happened, but after more of the same,Jll just put down the knife and that was that.

Jim Reilly would be proud!!

I kind of remember Luke/Laura and Luke/Holly stuff from the 1980's, but my first GH memory is of Frisco ripping the hat off Felicia, and learning she wasn't a boy. My mom/sister watched the entire ABC lineup, but GH was the favorite. I enjoyed the show, loved Anna Devane and Frisco/Felicia, but I did not watch daily until later.

I got hooked with Karen/Jagger/Jason trapped on an island storyline, and fell in love with Brenda who joined then, and have watched it pretty much daily since, with a couple of years of sporadic viewing in between.

Favorite moment? From when I was a kid it was Anna captured by Grant Putanm, and held captive by his dog Satan. She rescues herself, that is cool for a woman in daytime. Anna was unique.

I loved Karen becoming a stripper at Sonny's club and falling apart, her attempt at being the best crumbling while Jagger tries to rescue her. Plus I started watching daily when Felicia was being stalked by Ryan for the first time, and it was great thriller stuff. Sorry no video, I have no idea how to post that stuff.

I vaguely remember my first time watching Guiding Light.

I remember sitting with my mom and watching David Grant climbing through Kat Speakes bedroom window, and her father Hamp being right outside the bedroom door.

I also remember some of the blackout stuff, involving Frank/Eleni/Alan-Michael.

What attracted me to Guiding Light was how it connected to me as a viewer. It's chaarcters, their conflicts and friendships. Very good stuff all around, written by the queen herself, Nancy Curlee. My mom watched DAYS and AW on NBC, but GL stuck with me the most.

WOW - READING all your replies is amazing - As for me the Moment that got me hooked on DAYS, was Carrie and Austin's wedding... I remember, I had just moved to to US - and didn't know a word English at the time, couldn't make about what they were saying, but the pictures/actions were interesting enough, and I was hook till TODAY - "DAYS"

SECOND show is Guiding Light - Annie pushed herself down the stairs, and BLAME REVA... That was awesome stuff from the GL - Love it.

And Then there was SUNSET BEACH Beginning to END -

DAYS - MOST Memorable MOMENT have to be the PRINCESS GINA storyline... Love every second; I have all of the episodes on tape down to Gina merried BO...

My mom was a HUGE GH fan...and I remember seeing the murder of Diana Taylor...I had nightmares about that for WEEKS! I can still see the name written in blood lol...

But I still watched with my mom...my other most vivid memory is both of us screaming when Scotty caught the bouquet at Luke and Laura's wedding!

I miss John Dixon. My first memory of ATWT was Lisa's return. Eileen Fulton had left the show. She was replaced with another Lisa. Later, she returned and found her dead husband Whit McColl dead in the library. I believe that was back in 1983.

I'm writing a series of essays about the first time of a LGBT character in US soaps. I already have datas about Sharon Duvall in DAYS (1977) as first Bisex, Lynn Carson in AMC (1983) as first Lesbian, Hank Elliott on ATWT (1989) as first Gay (someone have or can find the episode in which Paul Ryan finds out about Hank and does not take it very well? I have seen Hank's coming out to Iva and when Hank gets a bullet to save Paul's life from the latter evil father and when he gets tested for HIV after finding out Charlie's diagnosis, but Soap Opera Digest recaps are too much concises...) and Billy Douglas on OLTL (1992) as first LGBT teen in both daytime and primetime TV (I have seen all the episodes on You Tube. BTW, what a great storyline, why it was ignored by the Emmys? Andrew Carpenter and Billy's father players are both really great in their roles! Oh, well, if OLTL was not nominated for Best Drama in 1994 with Marty's gang rape story which won four major awards and was spectacular, no surprise at all - sadly) and I have read something about Azure in The City (1996) as first Trans, but I'd like to see the episode where Bernado finds out and Azure confirms what is said in that newspaper to have something to quote. I like quoting, it gives the essays more depth. I already read the biweekly recaps from Soap Opera Digest on Tumblr and single episodes recaps on IMDB, but I'd like to have more to write about. And something more about critics and public opinions - I only knows that the storyline was rapidly axed because of bad writing and bad performance by Carlotta Chung, but I have nothing to quote.   PS Thank you @JAS0N47 for your incredible and rich site (and work on it). In particular for the Nielsen ratings on weekly basis lists since 1974 and for everything about Sharon Duval - specially for the script of the confession episode dated 23 May 1977! I'm not a DAYS viewers (I'm Italian, I live in Italy and on You Tube there is almost nothing if not short videos), but I've seen some clips of Marlena's first possession (Deidre Hall is terrific in it! Storyline is garbage, but it has its chilling moments and it is funny - I laugh everytime I remember Kristen say to Marlena "according to the book of demonology"! Was she an espert of demons or what!? ) and read on Soap Opera Central daily recaps about infamous Melaswen (brainwashed Marlena has a particular sense of humor - killing ex alcoholic Maggie with a bottle of wine and Alice with her donuts...), so I know something about the soap. Little, but better than nothing.

    • I'm curious the motivation for keeping Bela on beyond the circus story arc.  Did he play a character like his character on EON, or was he more of a good guy? I know he ended up with Sunny at the end of the series, but I always thought that Sunny/Hogan could have been revived once the lack of chemistry between him and the NuLiza became apparent.   Actually... the NuLiza (Louan Gideon) reminded me more of Sunny than she did Liza as played by Sherry... and she just threw off the whole vibe of the show. I see Estelle has just arrived in the late October 1985 episodes, which only means that Wendy and Stephanie are soon on their way out.   It also appears that the Sarah/Quinn/Wendy triangle was set up by Mayer.. and it looks as though Tomlin is going to deactivate it by the introduction of Colleen Dion's character.   I don't understand why no one on the show thought to look at Quinn and realize that he was the problem and write him out.

    • I kind of assume they're toning down Rachel's bad seed tendencies a bit to make it less obvious if they're going for her as the shooter. At least that's what I hope they're doing - I've really enjoyed Rachel being a bratty evil DiMera princess and Marlena finally getting a grandchild she deserves.

. This show is so stupid. Sonny killed an FBI agent less than a year ago by shooting him at point blank range. But the new short bald man is much much worse cause he was a bad guy in some part of Africa and managed to not kill Lucky, Isaiah, Jason, or Anna. This show is crippled by the mob all these years after Guza has been long gone.    Laura is literally saying oooo but Sonny is a good mobster for Port Charles. Give me a [!@#$%^&*].ing break. Sometimes I don’t know why I watch this joke of a show.
    • With all the changes Sunny was one of the longest running characters by that time.  She had never been married and had heaps of story potential. I can see America getting with SFT -you know 'the circus soap'. Smart move because circuses were all the rage with the kids in the 80's. Maybe Stu and Jo could have bought the circus.
    • It is actually pathetic, that Victor’s 50 year old children are still written as scared of this man that has to sit in every scene. I get it, EB has been on the show for almost 50 years, but I don’t care. He’s a man in his 80’s and should not be the damn lead and driving force because you don’t want to upset Eric Braeden ‘s fragile ego that only exists because the writers have cowtowed to this man for so long.
