The problem with the recent premptions is that it wasn't a nationwide one. It was being pre-empted in some major markets but not everywhere which meant they still take those ratings into account and divide by 5. Next week it will be a nationwide pre-emption so they will only count 3 days. Which could work out to be a plus.

I absolutely dont want James E Reilly back!

JER and Sheffer have both given it a try to bring the ratings up, and they have both failed.

The best thing for DAYS is for Ken Corday to do some serious restructuring among the writers. I think they should try having a team of 2-3 headwriters instead of one. And then they could make sure at least one of them is someone who has worked on DAYS for many years and knows the show.

If the viewers are not watching Days, it's their loss. It is not Hogan's. He has brought a great, historical story to light and worked in many of the vets. It's supreme right now. Folks who just now tune in may not enjoy Jeremy/Jett/Stephanie/Chelsea as I even find them hard to take, but seeing the huge story and the vets more than makes up for that. The only group not involved in the umbrella for the summer but do have a story are Philip/Belle/Shawn/Claire etc. I'm really looking forward to that one because I do like this group.

I'm heartened that Days remained the same in rank and only one soap gained, so it wasn't a huge short failing.

If the J&M fans are tuning out, it truly is their loss because we have seen Marlena do some of her very best work being a mother (finally). I rejoiced.

The dialog is supurb, too. I think it's way too soon to start calling for another change in HW because it has taken Hogan this long to get his story even started.

I also blame some viewers. They tune out good drama, reward big stunts like a slasher story and the "ice storm", and get talented actresses like (see ATWT casting news spoiler) fired with their constant complaining.

I am very disappointed that the Emmy wins, and more importantly, compelling emotional writing last week for Gus and Harley and Rafe, and Dinah and Mallet, did absolutely NOTHING to help the ratings at GL.

I hope that these numbers are wrong.

I agree with Dinah and Mallet stuff. But Harley and Co. I found boring. As for the numbers it is odd that the daily numbers didnt come out today. Maybe there was a mixup? I doubt it but one can hope. Anyone seen Toups around? :D

I agree completely. DAYS has been very good overall the last few weeks, and Hogan is making good use of the vets and the show's history. It's not perfect, but it's much improved over winter/early spring, and I find myself very entertained each day. However, those ratings didn't fall overnight and they won't go back up overnight. I think we're going to have to see weeks if not months of good, consistent writing to get the ratings up again.

I am not really watching Days these days but if it has improved, then great. I'm sure some fans will never come back. But others might, eventually. Or maybe even new fans will start watching. But the show needs to continue to get better and be consistently good. People on college campuses and online and in offices and other places will spread the word if it becomes must see TV. It may never have 10 million viewers, but I think there is some loyalty out there that could be reignited if the product warrants it.

I tuned back into Days to watch Patch and Kayla. I really enjoyed the Sami and Lucas story. Now they are obviously moving Sami to EJ and I haven't seen Kayla in a month. John and Marlena also have part-time jobs.

I don't recognize all of those teens.

I'm angry at Hogan Sheffer. He is kind of screwing with me. He's starting to remind me of Frons.

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
