January 18, 200719 yr Member Those who think Days could thrive on another network are forgetting two things:- Edge of Night - Search for Tomorrow Both changed networks, and eventually led to cancellation. Who said anything about thriving? I think we all realize DAYS would suffer a ratings loss on another network, but I'd rather that happen than lose it altogether (unless it went to ABC).

January 18, 200719 yr Member Now, while we're all mad about the NBC news, I don't think we should be wishing failure on the Today Show. I'm only wishing failure on the 4th hour, it's not like if the 4th hour fails that the other 3 will too..... Edited January 18, 200719 yr by Rhiannon
January 18, 200719 yr Member I know that things look very bleak right now for Days and daytime dramas in general, but I think we have failed to realize something. Y&R and B&B, though they have declined in the ratings in recent years, were the only two soaps that actually saw an increase in their ratings this past year. I think that if they can maintain the numbers they have and possibly increase they could remain on the air indefinitely. As for Days, we'll just have to wait and see. If ABC actually cancels a show for another hour of GMA I can't see Days going to ABC. However, SONY owns Y&R and Days so maybe it could end up on CBS. But I think it is premature for us to speculate two years in advance. Edited January 18, 200719 yr by skiman12082004
January 18, 200719 yr Member Did you all slash we all really think DAYS, PSNS, AMC, OLTL, GH, Y&R, ANY OF THESE would really be on the air forever? Every show has a beginning. And every show has an end, eventually.
January 18, 200719 yr Author Member Of course not, King. But that doesn't make it any easier for passionate fans. I understand these decisions from a business point of view. But from the point of view as a fan, I'm just upset and disappointed. Tradition means nothing in today's world. *sigh*
January 18, 200719 yr Member USA Today Article Daytime soap Passions has been canceled after an eight-year run to make room for a fourth hour of Today, which will air on all network affiliates, though only about half will initially air all of Today in a continuous block, says NBC Universal Television president Jeff Zucker. The worsening economics of daytime soaps led NBC to choose expanding Today. Passions will likely finish its run in August, but NBC is discussing continuing the soap on a cable network (such as SoapNet) or online. Zucker suggested that NBC's only other soap, Days of Our Lives, is unlikely to continue past 2009. I take pleasure in knowing Passions won't be going down alone.
January 18, 200719 yr Author Member I haven't even read Rion's post yet, but here's my prediction... He's happy about this news because if Passions goes, he'll be happy to see other soaps go as well.

January 18, 200719 yr Member Tradition means nothing in today's world. *sigh* Nope. Allllllllllll about money. Makes the word go 'round, I guess. It sucks, but it's definitely not anything new.
January 18, 200719 yr Member Atleast we've got 2 years left ... And not in the midst of being thrown off the network as soon as possible ... Edited January 18, 200719 yr by Drew
