I saw that too Kanewomen. There was an article in my local newspaper about how Howerd Stern is encouraging people to vote for Sanjaya and how Simon said he would quit if he won. It seems even Paula is a little upset about it.

I honestly think his sister was better. His voice isn't awful but it's not good enough to be in the top 12 let alone the top 24. The kid seems nice but I hate it that he is in this position because it will get really uglyy if people like Melinda, Jordin, etc go before him. Remember the John Stevens fiasco and the Jasmine trias one? That will work like nothing compared to what will happen if he lasts past the great singers I mentioned. I will feel really bad for Sanjaya if that happens because he will be hounded and hammered with hate. It's unfair but realistic and those voting for him just because they think he is the worst or they want to be entertained aren't doing this kid or his family any favors. They are only furthering future problems for them.

I will agree that he is amusing at times but I am getting to the point now where if he gets anywhere near the top 3 or 4 I will consider not watching this show. He is not even close to that talent level and if he sits there while Blake, Chris, Melinda, Lakisha, etc go home then that is not only right but it is appalling. This has got to end somewhere much like it has in the past for Scott Savol, John Stevens (who wasn't bad but again wasn't good enough to go that far), etc.

When Chris Daughtry was eliminated last year, that was nearly time to quit for me. I loathed the Hick and always will and apparently Simon does, too. It is very realistic of him to think he might have a program that isn't being used in the way he intended it to be, meaning the best singer winning. Of course, when you put something up for vote, you lose control. I think you have to have faith in the fairness of people in order to do that and whenever you are shown that the majority of people don't give a flip about fairness, that is a very rude awakening. Personally, I still do have some measure that good wins over evil (figuratively speaking) and that Sanjaya's fans won't push it past episode five if that far. There are only five people that come near to being in the finals.....Melinda, Blake, Jordin, Lakisha and Gina in my ideal lineup. Sanjaya is an entertainer even if he isn't a strong singer. Sixth place would be fair in my judgement.

The show would be much duller without Sanjaya. At least for the next few weeks. I think he'll finish 6th. I feel bad for him because he's a 17 year old kid.

I thought he was better than his sister. And had more potential. I loved his audition. He has zero experience unlike Brandon or Melinda or Chris Sligh and others. If he wants to pursue music, I think he has a good upside. It must be hard to come out on stage with a full band like that. It seems like he's starting to get a bit more confidence. I would love him to do well. He sounds fine on the studio versions of his songs. Just as good as some singers who have had pretty big careers.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Chris Sligh, the curly headed contestant from South Carolina who was voted off "American Idol" this week, said he considered quitting the show two weeks before viewers sent him packing.

"I never came into this wanting to win it," Sligh told The Greenville News on Thursday. "I made the Top Ten. That was my goal."

Sligh said he decided not to quit because the top 10 contestants participate in an "American Idol" summer tour that comes with a nice paycheck.

"I wanted to make the tour," he said. "I wanted to be able to make music for my living, so I don't have to work at the marketing company that I was working at."

Sligh also talked to the News about being kicked out of the Christian fundamentalist college, Bob Jones University, for attending a contemporary Christian concert featuring the group 4Him.

He enrolled at another Christian school, North Greenville University, and is three credits shy of a music degree.

Leaving Bob Jones "was actually good, because I had been trying to figure out how to leave," he said.

Sligh is scheduled to appear on the show's May 24 finale. But for now he plans to return home to his wife and his church, where hundreds of people gather each week to hear him play his electric guitar and sing as part of services.

"I definitely am looking forward to getting back home and kind of having a normal life for a few weeks," he said.

That was an interesting read!

See, IMO, Chris S. has always come across as arrogant. He had a good voice earlier on but he lagged A LOT later on. He definitely did not have it to win it, from the beginning, especially against his male competitors. Chris was arrogant from the get go, especially with his replies to Simon. But him now saying that he didn't want to win it is silly considering how he started off.

You know what? I can believe it. He sounds like he is really happy with his personal life and tired of the pace of the competition and in the end didn't want to be bothered with tying himself down with the show by actually winning. I can see that very well.

Perhaps it wasn't the most well-played match in history, but that's something no one will remember in a few years time.
    • The thing with Martin (for me) is that he should have been Anita and Vernon's kid. I honestly think he would have been fine being an older or younger brother to Dani and Nicole. It also would have made his relationship and kids feel more realistic. A handsome salt and pepper late 40s/early 50s congressman who settled down and adopted kids to fit an image for politics. Not that he didn't want this lifestyle but it is what he needed to do to get ahead. Also, we don't often get older characters playing LGBT roles not just on daytime but across most media. It would have been a refreshing take. As an alternative, Sam and Ty could have been Martin's kids from an earlier marriage a la the NJ governor that was outed. We could have also seen parallels between Vernon and Anita thinking back to how they handled Martin coming out compared to the way they accepted Chelsea.  As for Martin being Nicole and Ted's kid, I do wish in this case he was not tied to a marriage and kids, so that he could date and sleep around like any other character on a soap.  Yeah, I didn't get it...but what I did get is that girl is a bit crazy like her mama.  Vanessa and Joey talking about the poker table...get these people off my screen.

    • Unpopular opinion, but I didn't think the show should have reunited Billy/Vanessa at all until the final stretch of the show. When watching the 1989 episodes when both Vanessa and Billy return after being off the show... I liked that Vanessa had moved on from him and that the show was hinting at her wanting to reunite with her first love Ross while looking down at Nadine for being the one Ross was dating.  And I loved the twist where Billy and Nadine teamed up to keep Vanessa/Ross apart.   This was an interesting concept that sadly the writers dropped with the show deciding to make Vanessa pine over Billy between 1990 and 1993 when they finally reunited.   To me, Vanessa pining over Billy seemed out of character. At least once Billy was carted off to prison in 1994... she and Billy divorced and stayed divorced until the final months when they finally found their way back together.  During the years when they were divorced, I liked that they had maintained a friendship and connection.. with viewers (like my late mom) wondering if they would ever decide to make it work again. I wish the show had tried that with Josh/Reva because by the time of the final episode when they rode off into the sunset, I didn't care because we'd been through the make up and break ups between them for over 10+ years by that point.
    • I break down the primetime soap era (start of Dallas to end of Knots Landing) as  Up to Spring 1982: Building the foundation. Fall 1982-Spring 1985: Peak. Fall 1985-Spring 1988: Tanking. Fall 1988 onward: Off the rails plus budget mode. Of course individual shows vary and I've broken down each show in their threads.
    • I’m ready for Portia and Curtis to divorce and get it over with. Portia cheating with Isaiah would make for a fun love quadrangle with Jordan.

    • They didn't need to have some slutty gay dude as their representation. Just a 'normal' guy getting involved with another guy or two (or three). Just like the straight characters. Thinking about it, they missed the boat by not having a few other single charcters at the beginning. Maybe Naomi or Ashley could be shown meeting Derek/Jacob and  we could follow their romance. Too many characters were coupled up at the start. As a tattoo hater I was surprised to see Tomas so inked. Don't find it attractive or sexy. I'm surprised an actor would do that as it's definitely a statement and may not be appropriate for some roles. Suppose they can cover if necessary. I didn't buy Kat being all girly and then paying off Darius to get into Eva's room. Way too cliche. She should have just come along when the housekeeping was leaving and breezed in saying it was her room. And her smug looks in the hotel room and 'Now I've got you!!' talks to herself at Orphey Gene's...no.
