Anyone Watching OLTL These Days?

Hi. I'd like to introduce myself. I'm suvgirl. Been watching soaps around 30 years and have primarily watched ABC shows.

My opinion is all three ABC shows are lacking right now, but GH is definitely the most exciting to me. AMC, well, I don't know what to say. OLTL had some real promise in 2004 and mid 2005, but it seems to have evaporated.

All the vets are disappearing, and all of the eligible men in this town are too. Does Frons and Co. really think John McBain is the end all and be all for this show? David and Kevin are gone, Michael's married, Chris (won't go into that), what's left? Where's Nora? Vicki? A NEW man for Evangeline?

I should be happy seeing John and Nat five days a week? The writing is atrocious.

Sorry for the rant. What are your thoughts? Looking forward to posting.

I haven't watched an episode since the tornado. The show is beyond horrible. I'll return once Viki has a major storyline and John/Natalie/Evangeline/Cristian/Antonio/Nash all jump in front of speeding traffic.

I'm watching. I love John and Natalie and would not watch this crappy show without them. I miss families and want to see more of the Buchanans, the Balsoms, etc. I also miss RJ a lot. I think Dr. Michael McBain should get more story and airtime. The airtime of Spencer, Jess, Antonio, Nash, and Evangeline needs to be cut dramatically. They are the most boring on the show IMO. The show is also casting way too many new characters. I do not like new Marty at all, or her son Cole. OLTL needs help.

Not me, unfortunately. I only started watching properly under 2 years ago, but I love getting into soaps with a history behind it -- gives me something to discover as I am watching. Unfortunately, OLTL is completely ignorant and disdainful of its own history and that is really sad, because I feel like I am watching a show devoid of any feeling, character, identity. Hence why it is no longer programmed on my VCR.

I also cannot face watching John McBain 24/7. I know is just one of many symptoms of the current malaise afflicting OLTL but right now he is the most high-profile and visible, one instrument (the others being Antonio and Cristian) that Frons uses to Sonnify OLTL.

I'm barely watching... less John/Natalie, Todd/Blair/Spencer, and Nash/Jessica/Antonio and I would actually make a point to catch it everyday.

Not really. Just waiting for Heather to leave. The show is beyond boring.

Hi Honey. I think Michael McBain should get more airtime also, but Evangeline isn't on that much anymore and I miss the character she used to be. NuMarty isn't doing it for me either. Sorry, not a John and Natalie fan. And McBain sucks up too much airtime, hence the 2.4 ratings.

Nice posting with you.

Viki's airtime has been so limited it's almost non-existant. Hope that changes YESTERDAY.

"Sonnify" - that's cute.

I've been faithful to OLTL like I have to DAYS. I've seen OLTL in worst states than it has been now. Some things on OLTL work good while others are horrible. John has been horrible to this show, he brings nothing to the table here, yeah he supposedly has a big fanbase, but where are they?? The ratings show no type of substantial fan base. Spencer is horrible. I can't stand him. He too has brought nothing to this show. But someone said before that Dena does good with dramatics, well it works with OLTL anyways, and that's true. Some episodes are good and other suck. The show is making a lot of mistakes though. Recasting Marty was number one. This storyline is OK though it is beating the Todd is a Rapist thing to the pulp, but nuMarty doesn't work, not as an actress, but as Marty, IMO. Anyways I will continue to watch. OLTL at least tries to make itself interesting once in a while.

*sigh* One Life was one of my favorite shows in the history of television until they killed Margaret. Without her, I realized that she was the only entertaining thing on the show these days. I hate OLTL...and I hate Dena Higley

Hi everyone,

I just want to say that I have been away for a few years and I decided to come back and write something. I have been reading a lot in regards to how the soap operas have been dwindeling in viewership. How everyone seems to be unhappy where their favorite shows have been going lately in the crapper. Tha this writer or that writer is a hack and should be shown the door. A lot of people like to get on the band wagon and follow the same ol same ol approach. There is a lot of negativity and pure hate out there too. One of the reasons in my opinon is why soap viewership is down is because we have more choices in programming. We all have to work for a living because it is not cheap to live these days. Also the writing on these shows can be desired.

I have been a fan of OLTL since 1979. I am 39 years old now. I have seen OLTL in worse shape than everyone feels it is in now. OLTL deserves to flourish in many ways. One of the ways this show can flourish is to get back to the core families that everyone cares about. The Buchanans, The Cramers, and The Lords. Get rid of the boring characterss that no one feels a vested intrest in. Bring back old characters from the past but not just for stunt purposes but for storyline evolvement. I would like to see the following characters re introduced:

Tina Lord Roberts

Cord Roberts

Sarah Roberts

CJ Roberts (He can be gay or straight...it needs to be explored)

Kevin

Joey

David Vickers

Mitch Lawrence

Cassie Crammer

Max Holden

Rafe Garrison

The chatacters that need to be retired are:

John McBain

Vincent

Spencer

Claudia (She's gone soon)

Nash

Marty Saybrook

(Bring back Susan Haskel) But at a later time. Story not working.

Paige

and any character that just sucks the air out of the T.V.

Explore a romance between Bo and Viki. Those two have always had chemistry but imagine what would happen if these two fell in love what that would do to the canvas? The conflict between Clint and Bo. Clints unresolved feelings for Viki and his blossoming romance with Dorian. Focus on Clint changing and Dorian changing. Dorian grows secure enough not to have to scheeme to have love in her life. Clint is not such a control freak where he can just be Clint.

Re explore how Natalie and Jessica were conceived in the world. Mitch Lawerence did not impregnate Viki . Clint impregnated both Viki and Niki. Natalie is Niki's daughter Jessica is Viki's daughter..

There's many ways to improve this show. Have Claire Labine write for the show once again. She would bring back the emotional core to the show. Bring back Gary Tomlin as EP. The show has been based on fantasy (Heaven and Hell) When Gary was at the helm, the show won Emmy's. It was exciting to watch. The "Babes Behind Bars" was exciting because it showcased the talents of the cast rather being in storylines that draged on for eons.

I am rambling on... you get the poiny.

I am still watching, and I'll never be able to stop. I've been watching for over thirty-two years, through the good times and bad times. And as bad as people think the show is right now, I've seen it worse. I watch for Erika/Viki, and I know she hasn't been getting much airtime but what I've gotten I have enjoyed very much. And as long as she is still there, I'll be watching.

And recently I've come to enjoy a few other characters and they've kept me interested when Viki isn't on screen. But I guess since I do only watch OLTL, I have nothing to compare it to. But I love me some One Life.

I stopped watching when it became the John/Nat show. It was more interesting before these two and others entered the show. New isn't always a good thing to me.

Putting Bo with Viki is as bad as putting Clint with Dorian-NO WAY!!!!!!. How many brothers does Viki have to do? Clint being with a woman who killed his grandchild is utterly out of character and ridiculous, Dorian having to beg to be with Clint kills Dorian. That is the problem with the show, all the characters are either not shown or they are out of character. I agree getting back to the families is the way to go, but really if you want a start, do a story for Viki and Clint together that puts them back together. The show NEEDS a solid pair that is the head of all the families. These two actors have chemistry and there is tons of story potential from the fact that what was their marriage like that Niki came out and Tess appeared, how did Clint not notice, what was going on with Viki? Since they rewrote history to what it is now, go with it then, then have a big reunion for Viki and Clint.

Bring on more Lords, have them go after Viki and the Banner, have Viki lose her house even $$$. Let Todd be the villain we all need in town. Let David Vickers come back as the Buke heir and Dorian goes after him but now David is the one not accepting of her because she wouldn't take him back.

Have more family multi-generational stories, like with Viki-Starr, Matthew and anyone of his Buke family members. Do more with Jess/Nat, have them be on the outs again with a huge feud.

Let Blair get a brother, have Nash be the brother.

Bring back Mitch nad have him be any enemy for both Clint and Bo.

There are tons of possibilities but the thing is don't start putting characters into plot points which serve only to hurt the characters. The writing has to stop with the plot point crap. The characters have to stay in character not used and abused.

Use the history of the show and stop rewriting it, it isn't that hard to come up with new ideas and new socially revelent stories. Ripped from headlines is fine only if it isn't another plot point.

One tremendous way OLTL could buy itself some much needed goodwill would be to take about one third of the story/production empasis dedicated to John/Nat and Spencer/Todd/Blair and use it to rebuild their decimated veteran characters. Give Viki, Clint, Doria and Nora back some measure of a life worth living. I'm not saying they have to have even a frontburner story, but at least a solid B storyline. I watched Y and R today, and where the show has its problems, I saw Jill acting as a CEO and concerned businesswoman/friend. I even saw Katherine Chancellor acting within the business community.

If they want Evangeline to do all the lawyering, how about making Nora a judge? Give Viki back the Banner. And let some couples on the show be happy for awhile: cut Paige and do a Bo/Nora reunion. Hire someone new for Dorian instead of making Clint look foolish. There IS somewhere between being shoved out the door and front/center 5 days a week, not that you could tell it from ANY ABC soap.
