GL: News about 2007

Yeah I have mixed feelings about it too. Mostly about devoting an entire episode to their charity.

While devoting the entire year to celebrating GL turning the big 7-0 seems like a positive. I just can't help but to doubt the fact they'll actually dig deep into GL's history and honor it.

Yes, do you guys remember the big return of Maureen Garrett as Holly? Not only was the storyline terrible, but where the hell is she now? And I realize they had budget cuts, but I think they did a dreadful job with them. Hell, Crystal Chappell WANTED to go (and probably will when contract is up) and the money they pay her could've been used to save a couple important characters.

As for this Katrina thing, I've thought about it and I would be able to accept it if it were an actual episode and not a reality show special type of thing. How much creativity does it take to write an episode where various characters go to help with the Katrina rebuild? Plus more people would watch it so the message gets spread better.

Sorry, I understand the sentiment, but I still think it is a poorly executed idea.

Wow it is pretty bad when a show is doing something so wonderful and showing what they are doing on national TV with an audience for them to see is being called poorly executed and bad. When no one here even knows the full details of what they are doing regarding this or storylines or other 70th annivesary plans.

They might as well pull the plug on the show because with posters like this, who needs enemies?

Its a great idea, its great they are going to show what good daytimers can do and show the compassion this show has for its viewers....WOW...I would have thought that was a pretty damn nice gift.

But what do I know.

i agree. I dont watch GL but I think its wonderful.. It seems fans are so damn picky this way. Its like the fans dont want GL to help. P&G said, they want fans to help along side them. IT WAS THE WORST DISATER OF ALL TIME. and here i sit reading these ignorant post. People lives were desryoed, people lost everything and I here i sit reading these shameful post.. Irna Philips created this show with BROTHERHOOD IN MIND> GL is honoring that. I kant even type no more beacuse I will say things that will get me banned. God Bless.

I don't think fans would mind this one bit if they knew for sure that the 70th would truly be celebrated in grand fashion with flashback, returns, real history revisited, etc. The apprehension is there because faith has been lost that GL won't make the celebration about gimmicks (a la ATWT's 50th) instead of a true celebration of 70 years. This is a wonderful, charitable idea, but I also wonder why it couldn't have been incorporated into the storylines as well.

The show has proven over and over and over again, that they cannot deliver when it comes to the big things in life. If this regime of GL would tell good stories, that were charcter driven we wouldn't complain, but I highly doubt this is possible. It is a noble, rewarding gesture, which I applaud them for, but I recall when 9-11 hit the entertainment world went forward and wanted to entertain us, not constanstly remind us of the past and I feel this is what they are doing. GL is not Extreme Makeover Home Edition, so I don't see the need for a special one hour episode, that is my problem with this whole idea.

yea maybe they really should incorparte it into a stryline

I can't believe this show is about to be 70 years old.

70.

Is this the oldest tv show that's still on?

I feel bad...I've only seen the show maybe 30 to 40 times out of how many shows?

You go Guiding Light.

Shake that old money maker.

It will be incorporated in the show starting on January 3rd. I guess people missed that part in the article I posted:

And make certain you tune into the show on January 3, 2007. This pay-it-forward styled episode will launch Guiding Light's yearlong Find Your Light theme.

Springfield is mysteriously bestowed with good fortune and the residents are surprised to learn how each of their solitary acts of kindness were passed on to others and ultimately made a meaningful impact on the town.

I am sure everyone saw it. No one will be happy until GL is written THEIR way with the actors THEY want.

I for one and happy and proud that GL is doing something for the good of the people who are currently down and out. BUt I guess I am in the minority on that one.

No one knows how this will play out and what GL has planned but of course everyone finds it easy to jump in and complain and declare a disaster out of something that has not even happened yet.

Good lord

This isn't about the storylines, it's about what the show is doing outside of the show as a group effort and they're doing something good and honorable. How dare someone say GL is just reminding us of something in the past and that we should move forward. New Orleans is not completely rebuilt yet so it is not in the PAST. It is still in the present. For once, forget about how precious GL's history is and how you so desperately hope they show clips of Trudy Bauer and talk about Meta's trial and a bunch of other crap that only 85-year-old fans would remember firsthand. We don't know yet what the show plans to do for the 70th anniversary aside from the Katrina project.

My mother is 86 years old and still watches everyday. She remembers listening to The Guiding Light on radio and remembers when it first came on television.

Bet she'd like to see Trudy and hear them talk about Meta's trial.

Bet she'd like to see Bert and Bill Bauer.Papa Bauer and Dr. Stephen Jackson. Paul Fletcher,Peggy and Johnny. Charlotte Warring and Kit Vestid.

Joe Werner,Sarah McIntyre and Tim Werner

Bert's groundbreaking cancer story,The Mike-Leslie-Ed triangle. The introduction of the Norris family and Roger Thorpe.Rita Stapleton and her sweet sister Evie who went blind.Quint,Nola,,Floyd,Morgan and Kelly. The introduction of the "Slut of Springfield. The introduction of the incomparable Christopher Bernau as Alan Spulding and Beverlee McKinsey as Alexandria!

Rebuilding New Orleans? There are plenty of cable stations for that. There is only one Guiding Light and only one 70th anniversary!!

Exactly. Soaps usually don't give out spoilers this early. They only announced this early so GL fans in that area have time to clear their schedules and come out and help. I think it is a little too early to blast GL.

They are doing this the week of the anniversary and it won't air till February. As for what happens on screen the week of the anniversary, we haven't gotten spoilers regarding that because it is still six weeks ahead and shows never release spoilers that far ahead.

I just don't see the point of it.

ETA: It's only ONE episode, then I guess it's not that bad.

Since my first comment in this thread I have said how much I applaud GL for doing this, what I take issue with is they are devoting an episode to this. That is the problem, the one and only problem that I have with this. End of story.

And as far as wanting to see clips and such, you bet your bottom I do. This is the oldest television show in the history of television, why wouldn't that want to showcase that. I said in an earlier post that if they showed clips of the actors and actresses out working during their mid show bump and put lengthy episodes online, then it would be awesome! I watch GL and ATWT and AMC and GH and DAYS to escape the trials and tribulations of our own lives. No we should never forget the horrible events that occured and yes we should strive to help and rebuild and yes those people who in a position of celebrity status should help, that is not now nor do I think anyone on this board has questioned. The problem that arises is that why do they think they should put it on the air...use other venues to tell this human interest story...yes!!

Under this regime there have been so many gimicks it's not funny. The Inside the Light to begin with...The Marvel comic crossover and there comes a point when longtime fans, such as myself (15+ years) are confused.

Now...Kwing says we don't say anything good about the show:

- Josh and Cassie!! Amazing love this turn of events. I agree that Josh and Reva need to stay apart for awhile. Allow Cassie to be a supporting player and let her leading (Robert Newman) act his backend off in a kicking story.

- Lizzie has become a character I LOVE!!! More than anything, Marcy Rylan is a firecracker who holds her own with Ron Raines, Beth Chamberlin and Kim Zimmer. Making her Reva's daughter-in-law was nice and their friendship has been to watch.

- Rick and Mel are good when they're on.

Of course it could be better...could be worse. But I just think they need to work on telling character driven stories and lead by example, they're not doing that.
