I was more disappointed that they tossed in Katie whining once again about why Simon was focusing on Carly...Who cares....same with Simon and the Looney Goons...so what. The entire show should have been primarily focused on Hal. If they could do an entire episode on the Divas of Oakdale, they could do a tribute/retrospect of Benjamin Hendrickson...

I hope that the rumor that EK4Life posted in the directors and writers thread is true. Jean needs help now!

I think it is true. I just hope Kay didnt have anything to do with what was seen today.

Boy, they weren't kidding when they said flashbacks! Those damn flashbacks were so brief I don't see the point of putting them in there. The Simon story had nothing to do with todays show and should've been taken out for more clips.

Had this been a springboard for sonmething bigger it might work, but we all know it will be quickly forgotten. Already Will is talking about Jade! Ugh!

Is it just me or is there some major chemistry with Barbara and Dusty? Craig too, btw. But of course this means nothing because the headwriter doesn't care for Barbara.

If you blinked( ). You missed them. And Simon's story should NOT have been on today's show!

Already Will is talking about Jade! Ugh!

This is ridiculous. His father has just died and Jade is again around the corner!

No, it's not just you. I think Barbara and Dusty are very thoughtful, understanding, and supportive with each other, in a way that seems much deeper than just former in-laws. I would love to see that developed instead of the lame Lucy/Dusty inevitability.

I don't think I could go around reading about Busty (Barbara/Dusty) if they decided to hook them up

Somedays I am glad about that, as Barbara was so overdone under Hogan. Hogan loved her and sacrificed so many of the other women for her and Carly. But then other days I really miss Barbara. There has got to be a happy medium in there somewhere for her.

I think the biggest thing hurting her is that Hogan made her so crazy while he was there, and I feel that the same thing is going to happen to Emily since this headwriter is following the same pattern with her.

Another thing that really hurts Barbara having storyline is all her storyline the last few years has revolved around is her kids, and it gets old just watching Barbara who is only in her 50's have all of her life wrapped up in her kids. Barbara's career has seemed to be forgotten for the most part. She doesn't have a love of her life to give her more story. And that is all the writers fault that one has just never been created for her. They really don't have anybody from her past to even bring back since Gunnar is dead. Her's and Tom's story has been resolved. And I definitely don't want James Stenbeck back on the show.

I just wished they would get creative somehow and give Barbara back some kind of happy medium on the show.

I was just really irritated with Simon/Carly/Katie stuff being on today. I liked the flashbacks that was seen but I wanted more. I never watched ATWT way back then during the Hal/Margo/Tom stuff and I was just blowed away by how great Ben/Hal Looked. :o

I liked Jack's comment about populating Half of Oakdale.. It was so true. LOL!

I thought it could have been lots better, but at least it was better than the one AMC did for Ruth Warrick. I still hate they made her tribute more of a comic thing. To me that was the biggest disgrace because she was an original cast mate.

I, personally, *loved* AMC's tribute episode for Ruth Warrick. I didn't think it was comical (in that way) at all. I thought it was a great AMC-style salute to a absolutely unique character and actress. It was more quirky and light than it was comical, IMO.

The AMC tribute for Ruth also featured un-connected storylines, but the bulk of the show was Phoebe's memorial service, and there were more clips. I loved the whole idea of Phoebe writing letters to her family and friends - it was a good way to give everybody their moment without making it seem contrived. And it was just GREAT to see 70s clips. Not only did they show off Ruth Warrick's great talent (not to mention Eileen Herlie's), but they also give me hope that maybe AMC started saving episodes earlier than thought.

But, back to the topic of ATWT and today's episode. All I'm going to say is that I expected more and much much better from the best soap on TV. And I was disappointed, just as I have been constantly for the last month or so.

I think that's the same reason why I wasn't all that pleased by yesterday's episode either...because I know that ATWT can do better. Maybe, like Steve said, there's more to come...but who really knows? The writers are really bad at continuity, not just on this soap, but soaps in general.

It would be nice if we actually saw the aftermath of characters that were really involved w/ Hal, but the writers don't seem to care about that at all. It seems like they can't write storylines for couples anyway w/o them breaking up or cheating on one another. That's probably why Hogan broke up Hal and Barbara after their third marriage when IMO their third marriage should have been the permanent one, or why the writers never give Tom and Margo a storyline. I'm not that old, but I do remember a time when writers could actually write for couples w/o splitting them up. 15 years ago, Kim and Bob and Tom and Margo actually got storylines where they didn't wind up separating or divorcing.

Another thing that really hurts Barbara having storyline is all her storyline the last few years has revolved around is her kids, and it gets old just watching Barbara who is only in her 50's have all of her life wrapped up in her kids. Well...I understand what you're saying, but I also think that just b/c characters seemed to have done everything, it doesn't mean that the writers just stop writing for them altogether. History does repeat itself, so what would be wrong in having them do a similar storyline to one that they did 10-20 years ago. I think long-time viewers would appreciate if the writers did something that, in a way, paid homage to the history of the show. A lot of people who don't watch ATWT wonder how the show can keep going after 50 years when it's done pretty much everything. That kind of rationale doesn't make sense to me though. The problem IMO is that the writers just won't write for anyone over 45, regardless if it's Tom or Barbara...or Lisa or Lucinda, etc. It's almost as if that age is the cut-off point on who gets a storyline on this show. IMO, people do enjoy seeing older people in storylines: I wouldn't ask for every storyline to revolve around older characters, but what's wrong w/ at least 1?

We will have to agree to disagree on it. I hated the tribute to Phoebe/Ruth, and thought it was insulting. I liked that each person had something to say and the clips, but it was just way too irreverent. And to me it was used for nothing but to further the JR/Jamie/Babe story with having Phoebe's will state her disdain for Babe. It just came out of nowhere and the whole thing revolving around her death was an insult to Phoebe/Ruth.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying. I think you are right about them wanting to write for anyone over 45, but I still think Barbara's overexposure during the Hogan years is hurting her now.

I just know right now I want to see more of Barbara but I don't want to see her doing the overprotective mother thing again for awhile. I like repeats of some stories, but to me Barbara should still have more to do than just live her life through her kids.

I wish she would go back to designing, and Carly too. I loved when they were rivals in that business. Barbara could be a successful business woman.

The one thing that I am glad about is that they don't make the same mistakes with Barbara that many other shows do. Just to keep their central lady front and center they seem to always want to rewrite history to give that person a story. Look how many times the history of the characters of Erica (AMC), Marlena (Days), Reva (GL) and Vicki (OLTL) have been changed just to give them a story. It gets so sickening after awhile. At least right now Reva's big story for a change does not involve the rewriting of the history of the character.

There is still a lot for Barbara to do. They just need to tap into it. I mentioned Tom and Barbara and the fact that it has been done. I have thought several times that I would love to see Tom and Barbara have another affair but then again it would involve breaking up Tom & Margo again. I am not ready for that.

I know I don't want to see her together with Dusty, but as far as any man on the canvas right now - I don't know who she could even get involved with. Wish they would bring back John and maybe explore the 2 of them together again. I actually liked them as a couple.

Well I just started watching Tuesday's show, and I am very disappointed now. I thought sure that the Memorial Service would be shown today and give us more of the tribute to Hal.

The show comes on and the Memorial Service is over. Now I take back my benefit of the doubt I gave them yesterday. I thought sure there had to be more to it esp. since Adam didn't come until today.

This is sickening. Goutman is good for ATWT in some ways, but things like this he is so bad for them or any show. He doesn't want any kind of sentimentality at all. (Dang this profanity block because I really want to curse now). Anyway he messed AW's finale, then messed up ATWT's 50th and now he screwed up Hal's memorial. You are losing notches on my best producers in daytime list Goutman.

We don't even get to see the funural?

Goutman and JP dropped the ball on this.

What a crap tribute to Ben. :(

I thought today was a little bit better, but I agree that I thought the show would do a lot better.

I seriously think it's time that CG and JP leave.

I've been ready for CG to leave for a mad long time, but I think JP is needed. She is sometimes off, but she's often on (and rarely in-between!) We could only end up with someone worse.
