Desperate Housewives: Discussion Thread

I liked the second episode better than the first.

The stuff with Renee and the bartender was WEAK and LAME and POINTLESS. Vanessa should have thrown that script back in their faces.

What's the point of Bob and Lee? All they use Lee for is to make stale gay jokes, and does Bob ever even have lines?

Love Bree and the sexy cop. I know he probably tapped that ass like he was looking for maple syrup.

Tom and Lynette suck the life out of every single scene they're in. I'm glad that couple at the B&B told them off.

The Gabrielle stuff was too boring and predictable once we knew who the stalker was. This might sound bad, but I'm so sick of rape being exploited by hack writers. If they want you to feel one way or the other about a certain character, they can just drop rape in there and the job's done. They're all dumb ass hell because I don't think Carlos would go to jail if he turned himself in.

Felicia :( I hope my girl ain't dead, but I'm sure she is.

These two episodes were just weird to me. It felt like the first episode was a season finale all on its own, but then they threw in the cliffhanger resolutions (Paul turning himself in, Felicia's car accident) and decided to make the second episode the season finale. The fact that the *big* stories were so far apart from each other just highlights how disconnected this show is.

Loved the scene of Beth killing Felicia, it was epic.

The whole Gabby's step-father thing was rather unconvincing to me but as I just watched the final minutes here (Mountain Time) I absolutely love the chilling final scene. Yeah in a way it does remind me of Season 4 but the whole situation is completely different; no police, very chilling, a new secret, a body in the box and yes involving everyone.

Actually, just like how B&S' season finale in my opinion ended up working well for a series finale, I could totally see this working as a series finale as well although I think DH has been just been officially renewed.

Tom and Lynette splitting up? Way past due.

They were up in the 8 HH..dont recall the Viewer total. They are in trouble when they lose to Survivor in the first hour.

Hell ...Criminal Minds had higher numbers last week and it wasnt a season finale.

The 6.7 doesnt look good at all and thats the higher number of the two hours.

I hated the finale, the only good thing was the separation of Tom and Lynette. Tom is a lame excuse for a human being. Yeah, I know Lynette can be controlling but she endured HELL with that man. Tom's pizzeria dream that almost put them through bankruptcy, the evil seed known as Kayla Scavo, Tom's college experience where he basically told her that she needs to take care of this family from now on financially because he'll be sooooo busy with the studying (LOL!), affair with Renee in college ecc.

What is the point of Renee?! Drea de Matteo had a lot more storyline last season and she left the show because she was unhappy. I doubt Vanessa will return for season 8.

Bree's storyline this season can easily be named "Bree and her men". Carlos was pissed at Bree when he found out Andrew ran over his mother in s1 and when he killed Gaby's stepfather, suddenly he and Bree were OK?

I really hope season 8 is the last season of the show.

LOVED the finale! Although I felt the season as a whole was weaker than the last, the finale was much better. I enjoyed the conclusion to the Felicia/Paul storyline (although I can't help but wonder if we haven't seen the last of Felicia). Also the Tom/Lynette stuff is gut-wrenching. I can't help but feel that it is such an echo for marriages today. Love the writing there. Basically, I cannot WAIT for next season!!!!!

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks. I thought Desperate Housewives was always consistently entertaining (minus the clusterf#ck that was Season Two) and I enjoyed watching it. Was it can't-miss-TV all the time? No. Especially not after the first season. But I still made a point to watch it and I enjoyed it. And the ratings are still consistently good in comparison to other primetime shows, and is still a top-watched show. 12 million viewers isn't something that most shows can brag about.

Second that. I have loved it from the first episode and will love it long after it's gone. I've never understood the constant criticisms that it's taken in recent years. Do I think it is as good as the first season? No. But most shows are never as good as time goes on. I still think that DH is better than most other shows on television with writing, acting...everything. I am so sad with this news! I was hoping for two more seasons. :(

    • Kate Mansi on Kristina going too far No spoilers - but only if you've watched through May 14. If you want to be unspoiled, wait until after you've watched May 14. https://www.soapoperadigest.com/content/ghs-kate-mansi-says-kristina-knows-that-shes-gone-too-far-exclusive/
    • Well, Mo should have tried harder lol GH has had the narrative for years that Sonny is "good" mob and everyone else is "bad" mob.  It's never made any sense no matter how many characters tell us that.  How about no mob?  That's the best kind of mob
    • She absolutely needs to be on this show.
    • they need to bring her back for a role! I say expand Bill's family and have her play his meddling aunt that moves into his house with he and Hayley and goes head to head with Anita
    • I'll be brief with this response because it is veering into Classic thread territory, but I agree about the Taggert writing especially when the show revealed he worked with/was mentored by Deke and knew Sonny killed him.  It gave Taggert a bias that was unnecessary and made it seem like he was a poor judge of character, so the audience was already primed to dislike him even if Taggert was right. Plus, Garcia and Taggert were pretty obnoxious, especially early on lol.
    • THE ROAD OF LIFE from 12-13-1984 to 7-1-1955. But this soap had been on radio & very popular from as far back as 1937. Then in 1954 P&G suggested to Irna Phillips that she develop this project for television & P&G would sponsor it. It may have been the beginnings of the sponsor-owned soaps.
    • SOD Where Are They Now? She left daytime more than 25 years ago, but GUIDING LIGHT fans have not forgotten Lynne Adams (ex-Leslie, GUIDING LIGHT, 1963-71; 1973-76; ex-Amy, SECRET STORM, 1971-72). She's one of Digest's most frequently requested "what ever happened to...." GL alums — a pleasant surprise to the actress. "I'm really flattered," she smiles, then admits that fans still occasionally recognize Leslie Jackson Bauer Norris Bauer. "It's amazing because I haven't done it for so many years." By Melissa Scardaville   The years that she did spend there were good ones. "My main memory is of all the women I knew on the show, like Charita [Bauer, ex-Bert], and Fran Myers [ex-Peggy] used to be a great friend of mine." Adams's main storyline — the tortured triangle of Mike/Leslie/Ed — was also a bright spot. "I really enjoyed doing it, until the character got married [to Mike] and she was happy." That, in turn, was the impetus for Adams to leave. "The character got boring, frankly," she shares. "It was very conservative and boring and happy. Not that happy is bad; happy is great, but it's not that great on a soap opera. You want to have some conflict and drama, and her biggest drama was that she was worried that her stepdaughter was going to get involved with some guy. It just wasn't interesting, so I left."   GL has ties to Adams's current project, Made-Up, a comedy about our culture of beauty that she wrote, starred in (with her sister, Brooke Adams, as well as brother-in-law Tony Shalhoub and Eva Amurri) and produced with Sister Films, a company she founded with Brooke. "The whole time I was on GUIDING LIGHT, I used to dye my hair because I went white when I was about 16," she shares. "After I had been off the soap for a while, I let my hair go, and it was shocking the difference in the way people treated me. You feel like you've disappeared and you're not a viable person somehow. Then, I would go to an audition wearing a wig, and suddenly it was a whole different story again."   That experience led her to write a one-woman show, Two-Faced, which she performed for nine years. Adams then embarked upon the arduous task of taking a version of the play to the screen — "One time, we had the $5 million in the bank and Kevin Kline couldn't do it and all the money fell apart." But, thanks to her husband, George Fifield, a media arts curator, she eventually got it shot on video as a mockumentary. "It's a movie that people who used to know me would love to see," she notes. To check if the film is coming to your area, log onto www.madeupthemovie.com. Adams also points out, "If you click 'Contact,' that [e-mail] comes to me, and I'll answer it."   Sure, her plate is full now, but would Adams ever return to soaps? "If you had asked me two years ago, I would have said yes. If you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have said no. Right now, I live in Boston, so that would make it kind of impossible," she chuckles. "But I loved doing soaps. It was a hard job, but it was really fun. I used to have some relationships with some of the people who watched the show who would write to me. I miss all that."
    • Thank you for this!  My guess is that they had actresses audition as backup in case Tunie said no. Debbi Morgan mentioned she was asked but turned them down and I imagine it was likely for Anita as well. I love that they sent her a letter acknowledging her advocacy.  I hope that down the line they consider her for another role. We need two Articulettes!
    • Very interesting - thanks, @P.J. and @DeeVee!  This makes me want to go back in time and start my watch at '89. I think I'm going to power through just a little more of '96 right now just to see A-M/Lucy marry (so I can see their happy ending), how Phillip enters the picture, more of Alex vs. Amanda (because that's so funny/amusing to me), and what happens to Blake's twin babies (the only things really keeping me going right now).
    • Today marks the 139th anniversary of Emily Dickinson’s death. She died on May 15, 1886 at the age of 55. WalMart has said their prices are going up. As ideas go, I am againsr this one.
