AW Soapnet Rerun thread

Another World continues to revel in its 2nd glory period (88-92, currently late 90 airing). The Who Shot Jake? mystery is in full effect, probably the most well-crafted mystery in the history of my daytime viewing. The twists & turns in this story (not to mention the suspects are some of my all-time faves) are fabulous, and sets in motion the return of one of the great AW characters of the 80s. Anybody else currently watching & care to comment on a regular basis? I hope so- because right now, it's the soap I most look forward to each day.

I am watching everyday. I never watched AW when it was on NBC so this is all new to me and I am loving it. I read that Vicky and Ryan were starting over at SZ so I decided to pick up AW. I was only going to watch just for them and FF the rest of the show but I quickly got out of that habit and started watching the whole show. Though I wish I hadn't spoiled myself on "Who shot Jake?" I guess I didn't think I would become that into the show when I did. Oh well. The story is still exiting to me and I am looking forward to it playing out since it is a wonderful umbrella story that beats pretty much anything on soaps today.

AW is one of those shows that left before its time. I wasn't a frequent watcher but it was a good soap. The Who Shot Jake and Cassandra Rawlings are two of my all time favorite mysteries.

It's my favorite soap of all time, and although I'm currently enjoying DAYS & Y&R as well, I do look forward to AW the most. I actually didn't start watching soaps until 1991, and didn't really get into AW until the mid 90s, so this is all new to me!

My favorite part of yesterday's episode was Donna's phone call to Mikey. So heartbreaking! Anna Stuart is such a fine actor. In fact, all of the actors on this show were excellent, and it's a shame that more of them aren't gracing our TVs in current soaps.

I don't know who shot Jake, so as long as this thread is spoiler-free, I will continue to check it! I also can't think of which 80s character will be returning soon. Would knowing that spoil this storyline?

AMC were fools not to sign her to a contract. I would trade Bobbie Eakes for Anna Stuart in a heartbeat.

Oh we'll be sure not to give it away in here. It's a doozy. Knowing the character that returns doesn't spoil the Who Shot Jake? story, but it does spoil the story that their arrival sets off.

I love Anna Stuart & my heart broke for her in the call to Mikey. I also loved her scenes with Hilary Edson's Stacey. I forgot what good rivals they were.

Also, I absolutely adore Cali Timmins as Paulina. Enjoy her while she lasts- though most came to love Judi Evans in the role, I always preferred Timmins & never warmed up to Evans' Paulina. She's a damn fine actress but was completely miscast.

You and me both. Anna Stuart was great on her brief time on AMC. I'd trade half of that cast for her.

Oh I wish we had SN. We might get it next month because we are getting a new cable company. I loved AW. It was my favorite soap of all time. I didn't care for Cali Timmins, I liked Judi Evans as Paulina. Jake McKinnon is my all time favorite male character on a soap. Tom Eplin is fabulous and I wonder why no other soap has picked him up. What is he doing now, does anyone know?

Amen. I loved Mary Smythe - she brought a dark humor to the show that it's lacking now. Stuart looked like she was having a ball over there. Susan Lucci seemed to enjoy sparring with her as well. Another talented vet given the shaft by AMC. A real shame.

I watched the Thanksgiving scenes from 2003 over at Youtube a few days. AS cracked me up. She was on fire and had hilarious exchanges with everyone. The funniest being the one with her and Reggie.

I read at the AW board at Soapnet that he is working on a movie. ITA about TE being fabolous. He is one of the many actors on AW at that time who has chemistry with everyone. I could watch TE and Paul Michael Valley read the phone book and not get bored. They blow most of the actors that soaps pass as leading men these days right out of the water. TE and PMV have chemistry with everyone: male or female. Their chemistry together is off the charts, too.

Forgot to mention Alice Barrett, who really comes into her own as Frankie now. I loved the character from the moment she arrived, but this is when I started falling in love with her. Such a shame that she eventually was let go.

Oh, and seeing Ricky Paull Goldin in that outfit as Dean on Friday? Priceless.

Yeah. Alice Barrett rocks. Love Frankie and Cass. I wish I would have picked up the show last year so I could have seen their courtship.

I like Cali, too!!!! I had never seen her Paulina before, so I didn't know what to expect, but she's really good. Very different from Judi, and better in some ways.

I am looking forward to seeing TE & JE's Jake & Paulina again, though. They had great chemistry. I really wish DAYS would hire TE as a love interest for JE's Bonnie. Bonnie is far from my favorite DAYS character, but TE & JE together again would be priceless!

I will comment more in this later. I have not gotten to watch AW in a few weeks, but absolutely loved this period of the show.

As to Tom Eplin, the last I heard is that he has given up soaps. He was really bitter about his exit from ATWT. the last even rumor I heard about him and a soap was when OLTL wanted him to be the new Todd Manning on OLTL. I think that is when they were thinking about him and Michael Easton. Too bad they didn't get Tom for the role.
