After 21 years with The Young and the Restless Prodcuer/Director Kathy Foster is calling it quits. She stated that it has been honored to work as part of the legacy with the Bell family and is grateful to them and Ed Scott. However, she feels taht it is time to try new things and now is the best time to move on. Appearantly, the behind the scenes stuff is no way directed wit hher decision

As the duchess would proclaim "Oh, dear god in heaven. Dear god in heaven."

Kathy Foster was THE best. This has to be the WORST news to me yet. I don't care about Smith or Alden leaving, Sherwood getting the boot sucks, but this hurts ROYALLY. Foster was a big part of Y&R's appeal. I hate to see her leave. :(:(

Eeek! So many Y&R lifers are leaving. Latham really has taken this show by the balls.

EDITED - Can't post full articles, word for word, from the magazines. Please paraphrase next time.

"I've been wanting to try my own things for a while and now seemed like the time to do it. I still have a great relationship with the show."

Translation: "I'm leaving because after over 21 years with the show, I get slapped in the face."

If anyone deserved a promotion, it was Kathy Foster. No offense to Josh Griffith, he's an awesome writer an all, but he does not deserve to be promoted to Co-Executive Producer after being with the show for just THREE FREAKIN MONTHS and he was NO EXPERIENCE as a Producer for daytime dramas.

3 months over 21 years = slap in the face.

Now, who's the next longtime member of the Y&R to leave?

I don't blame her for leaving at all, the behind the scenes changes of late at Y&R has been truly ridiculous, you can definetly tell that the Bell's are losing control or grip of the show somehow.

NONE of this would have happened if Bill was still alive and active in the production of the show!

Well Lynn Latham doesn't have the power to decide if Kathy Foster is EP. Remember, Jack Smith was EP before her, I think these decisions are CBS. If anyone should be blamed for this, it's CBS for giving Latham more and more power. I still like Latham, but i don't understand why they can't let her focus on headwriting for a while before doing all of this.

As for Jack Smith, he needed to be gone and i'm glad he's gone. I just hope that if Latham doesn't work out they don't decide to give him or Kay Alden the headwriting duties. They both did a terrible job and having them back would be worse than Latham because chances are we'd be stuck with them forever.

What ever happened to David Shaughnessy, wasn't he head writer at one point?

Y&R is a show that ALWAYS promoted from within and to let someone who's been with the show for 3 whole months an EP is outrages! Why wasn't Foster promoted? Or why wasn't Ed Scott promoted? They've been with the show for over 20 years each. It makes no sense to promote Griffith. It's a slap in the face to everyone who worked on Y&R for so damn long, to everyone who put their due in.

Maybe Smith and Alden weren't good as Head Writers, but they should've stayed with the writing team - they've been on the staff since the the 70's.....THE 70's.

You just don't overhaul the entire crew like this, especially all at once.....all within 1 year.

Like a lot of ex-Y&R staff members, he's working at B&B as a director.

I honestly feel no pity for Smith/Alden. They were mentored by the BEST. Mr. William J. Bell. And what do they do? They shouldn't have got the shaft like that though.

I'd LOVE to be a fly on the wall with all the backstage drama on Y&R now.

Thanks for the triple response Toups :D

This board is driving me nutso today.

David needs to get back at Y&R.

Toups, when Alden and Smith were headwriter, they proved that working with Mr. Bell since the 70s did them no good in regards to respecting history, creating interesting and complex stories or staying true to the show.

Y&R is a show that ALWAYS promoted from within and to let someone who's been with the show for 3 whole months an EP is outrages! Why wasn't Foster promoted? Or why wasn't Ed Scott promoted? But Jack Smith was promoted to EP before her as well and I'm guessing when Alden was headwriter she was EP as well. If they wanted to be promoted, I'm sure they would've had the chance years ago. There must be a reason neither has been promoted yet. Different producers do different things and they probably weren't focused on the things that would make them a good EP.

Thanks guys...Shocking that SOD, for once, printed something that wasn't asskissing PR.

I'm kinda scared for Y&R. I understand shows go transitional phases, but this is just way too much at once, in addition to the firing of Christel Khalil and the possible re-hiring of David Tom.

Y&R is a show that has never had a high turnover rate on anything, much less their behind the scenes crew.

If Y&R drops, the rest of daytime will too. And that is NOT good for the industry.
