Out of all the newbies, the one I'm most interested in (or least disinterested in I guess...) is Jamal who..as luck would have it...gets the least amount of airtime.

What is going on with him? Did they ever have a plan? Did it get changed when they made him Jamal instead of "Marcus" and now they don't know what to do? I don't see why it would make that much of a difference? Did they just bring him on to fill the token black character role with Reggie and Dani basically gone?

I have no idea but I hope he gets a storyline and a purpose. I think he'd be great with Julia. Sure there's a bit of a continuity problem...Julia and Noah found Jamal when he ran away during the "parental divorce" story..he was a kid and she was a woman....but its no different than with Jamie.

I think he'd also fit nicely with Simone but putting two underdevelopped characters together is a no-no (just ask Colby and Sydney!).

Forget Annie, Colby, Sydney, & Sean. I want to see Jamal!

What are your thoughts on the guy? Interested or not? What should they do with him?

I see nothing that makes him different from any of the other newbies. He's just as pointless as Annie and Sydney.

I'd feel differently if there were more interaction between him and Livia and Tom, though. I can stand Colby because she's part of a long-running family, and that's being shown. It's shown in her storyline. If Jamal's storyline dealt more with him and his family (I don't know...he could have come in and tried to help Reggie get Danielle back or something), I'd see more point to him. There's still time for that, I guess.

But Annie and Sydney can just go. Far, far away.

I have plenty of thoughts on Jamal. He's Frons' token. I mean, this is the same man who pointed to General Hospital's Penny and Leticia as symbols of GH's diverse cast -- two characters that don't/didn't speak more than two words every other month. Leticia's only line is "Yes, Mr. Corinthos." And when they want to get more in depth with character, they have her say, "Come on, boys! Let's get some ice cream!" Jamal was brought back as a token. He can be used to kill two birds with one stone. He's black AND connected to the show's history. That's all that's needed from him. Now that that's done, Frons can mandate the show to focus on his blonde chicks and his dark haired playboys. Frons also needed a black male character on ABCD after GH offed Justus Ward for no apparent reason.

I'd be more interested to see him but it would appear they have no idea what to do with him.

Jamal proved to me that having a pretty face and abs are not the only things that get you airtime on ABCD.

He is purely the TokenBlackMale that they will drag out during Black History Month or the black male they can point to and say they have diversity. It took a month to establish him as a Frye...I knew Colby was a Chandler within a couple of days and just how long did it take to find out that Sydney was Winifred's niece?

Now that Reggie has been replaced by Sean Montgomery and Danielle has been replaced by Erin Lavery...they needed SOMEONE that they could point to and Jamal is it.

Last year was the 2005 Summer of Abomination and this year is the 2006 Summer Blackout on AMC.

Regime change or no regime change as soon as they get rid of B.S. Frons it may be change, until then expect to see Token Black Male Jamal onscreen once every 2 weeks, usually on a Wednesday because that is more often than not Black People Day on ABCD.

Eh - I'm not sure. There could be potential - but if they do a storyline I hope they incoporate Dani and Livia hardcore. If not, then I don't care and prefer just to see him go away...but yeah, it seems like the writers have NO idea what to do with him yet. Kinda pathetic.
