  1. But he didn't really raise them right. They were raised for the most part by their mother Ivana. I thought the boys actually hated their father, and Ivanka herself was rumored to try to stay connected to her dad by phone calls she made from school and he basically wanted nothing to do with the kids. And then all the kids sort of made themselves barriers to protect their mom from him after the divorce; Now all this is damaging, but it would be nice to think that they got something from their mother. It seems at the end of the day they didn't and it became trying to endear themselves to their father.
  2. Remember all those people who said Jared Kushner was going to be a moderating influence on his father in law. I believe those people were suckered in also. Bannon True Believer
  3. Trudeau seems like a pretty happily married guy but then his parents did at one time also and we see where that relationship went. I've never found Ivanka that gorgeous. I think her height is a definite advantage and I have always thought she seemed intelligent, but I now think she's also bought and sold and yeah I do now believe her only value to her father is to be pimped out. I don't buy she exerts any influence. I also don't believe her marriage to Kushner is any more than a meeting of businesses. She's allegedly reported to have had her own dalliances before and since she's been married.
  4. Seriously? "After voting for Republicans in large numbers, Iowa cops now furious over GOP collective bargaining changes" Iowa Police officers did not vote Republican to get stabbed in the back
  5. I'm not really sure why anyone cares what Piers Morgan thinks these days. Someone on twitter actually proved that half of his 4 million followers were purchased as well.
  6. Well since we are now sending back legally bound undocumented workers(not the criminals Trump promised) who are here taking the jobs of those poor rust belters, I hope they are all ready to pick up and move to California for those high paying nanny, landscaping, and farm jobs that barely pay minimum wage.
  7. This is f'ing ridiculous. My mom who was a child before the polio vaccine was developed, had a brother who died of it and every summer one or two in the neighborhood would be afflicted. Seriously do you know what she said. Maybe we need an epidemic of epic proportions so people get why vaccinations are important. These people are seriously deranged IMO.
  8. Ugh!!
  9. My brother a so called republican(although he hasn't voted that way in 16 years) voted for Kander and was actually excited about him. Kander is exactly IMO the kind of leadership the democrats need now. Fresh, young, and his campaign seemed more pseudo grass roots - he actually seemed to go out and talk to people from both sides. He's also not afraid to speak truths democrats from both sides(establishment and far left) don't want to hear. I am actually proud to see him championing a group that is focused on voter suppression. I do hope he runs for political office again. When is the next Governors race in Missouri?
  10. Republican who called for another Kent State for Protestors resigns and loses radio show
  11. The problem is it just doesn't impact those who have directly self invested,it also impacts municipal and state retirement plans politicians have allowed to be borrowed against. And people want Social Security privatized? In Illinois one of the reasons the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund is broke is because our politicians(both parties) were allowed to borrow from it and 2008 hit and the money was basically lost. Now they want to penalize workers who contributed to it by cutting back what their benefits would be because it wasn't protected(these people collect from the IMRT versus Social Security). Fortunately the Illinois Constitution protects the retirement fund and the cutbacks were ruled unconstitutional by the REPUBLICAN head of the Illinois Supreme Court, who surprisingly chastised politicians for not leaving a temporary state income tax increase in place until the deficit was resolved.
  12. Gerrymandering is the project Eric Holder and President Obama are going to be working on. Jason Kander the "nobody" from Missouri who might have actually beat Roy Blunt had the democrats invested some money there, has a new organization called Let America Vote that is focused on fighting voter suppression. Tom Perez who is running for DNC chair said initially voter suppression was going to be his champion cause but he seems to have flip flopped due to the insufferable Bernie wing. So there is stuff going on. But I am sure the Bernie people don't think gerrymandering or voter suppression is a big deal. They are only concerned about the WWC. Obama Holder Gerrymanding The stock market will continue to rise due to re-regulation but at some point as it has with every other GOP presidency it will tank. I have memories of Harding/Hoover and 1929. Those of us who have some money invested for retirement are scared as my own retirement 401k just recovered to 2007 levels last year. My elderly mom has a ton of money invested that supports her, so at some point we will be looking at ways to protect our retirement from the whims.
  13. Jason Chaffetz just got roasted big time at a town hall in his district. 1200 people in attendance and 1000 who could not get in the venue outside. And he cut it off it was so brutal. Jason Chaffetz Town Hall
  14. Yes and no. I will be the first to admit the democratic party is doing NOTHING to engage people right now. But it's all being done by people who are excited and pumped up and yeah scared too. The Indivisible group I belong to has grown from 20 to 80 to now 200 people. And all ages. We have people who supported various candidates in the last election and you know I talked to a young woman who voted for Bernie who finally helped me understand why. I still never would have, don't think he was the better candidate, but I get why his message resonated with some people. She even said that after meeting some Hillary people she now gets it(and she did vote for Hillary reluctantly). There are people energized and I do think the local work and maybe even state level elections will be fine with no unified party message. But the democrats better not waste too much time before trying to reach out to the local groups or their candidates of choice might just be primaried right out of the party.
  15. I'm close to throwing in the towel on democratic messaging. The infighting of Bernie vs non Bernie people is still going on and lord knows I am no Bernie lover, some of what he did message in his campaign resonated with those people you are talking about. I honestly think the establishment dems and the Bernie dems need to let go and let someone fresh come in who can mold the party and messaging. Tom Perez just made a bonehead mistake yesterday which I think is going to kill his chances and Ellison, I like him, but I think the link with Bernie just taints him with too many democrats. I think the platform itself is fine, its the messaging that sucks. I'm a huge Jason Kander fan and I really wish he would have thrown his hat in, but he's likely going to run for political office again. I'm going with Jaime Harrison. Fortunately all these local indivisible groups are sort of taking the baton. There really is no consolidated messaging nationwide, which is probably fine locally and even in statewide races where local and state issues matter most. There are several statewide GOP races in central and southern Illinois that are already being targeted by these local groups, plus congressional races that have a lot to do with the ACA and how the reps down there have been ignoring the constituents issues, coupled with the blowback on Sec of Education choice. People forget that in rural communities school choice doesn't matter as much because well there is limited to no school choice available in those areas.
  16. I think the ruling today was struck down on the basis of due process and the lack of it. 70k Visa's were signed away being forced by the Customs Border Agents without any due process or any kind of representation provided. There are at least 15 states that have suits against this ban based on how it hurts them economically I believe The ACLU filed their suit based on violation of the first and I believe 5th Amendments. And I am going to make my pitch for the ACLU. I am volunteering one morning a week(Sat or Sun) to take calls and help with documentation and such where I can. The offices are swamped but they have gotten a ton of support financially. The local office here is expanding their space. And donations have been phenomenal. Bill Gates unbeknownst to a lot of people, was matching donations the Saturday of the weekend of the ban to the tune of 15 million dollars he matched. So while they are financially very solvent, please contribute if you can. This, Planned Parenthood, and Jason Kander's (former Sec of State in Missouri almost Dem Senator) new group Let America Vote are the 3 organizations I am going to focus on in terms of donations. Let America Vote is totally focused on fighting for voter rights state by state and nationwide if the need arises.
  17. Run for a second term lol? Ok. I am convinced as I believe was reported in that dossier that was leaked that Trump does have FTD. His actions and incoherency are worse than Reagan in his last term. Even to the point where he is afraid of stairs and doesn't like walking up or down slopes. There is no cure for it as we know and I would not be shocked if he was dead in 2 years. Dealing with the pressure is not something he is going to be able to maintain, not that he really has, but it will get to a point where even his staff like Conway and Spicer won't be able to deflect.
  18. I am far from a Graham or McCain lover but since when are they advocating war here? There are sanctions on Russia for a reason or do you forget that. Are we supposed to release those sanctions willy nilly? I want to know what aligning ourselves with a country who is suffering fiscally, who has an economy no larger than Italy, how that benefits the United States. This is Russia not the old Soviet Union. You know who it benefits? The oil companies like Exxon who has a huge investment in Russia they can't tap into due to those sanctions and our Sec of State is now Exxon's former CEO. We are in a position of strength here and that doesn't mean releasing sanctions just because they might be nice to us. The sanctions get released when they get their asses out of the Ukraine and how about Crimea, which is why we and all of our allies put the sanctions in place to begin with. And then to likely have someone in the White House who has no issue criticizing a much more dangerous power, China, because of the election tampering Russia did in his favor along with whatever evidence they have on him, is enough reason to limit his powers here. Add that his top advisor is an admitted Leninist and I don't have any qualms in seeing limits placed on his decision making when it comes to Russia.
  19. Trickle down doesn't work. Never has been proven to. In 2010 and 2011 when the economy was still slowly recovering, Corporations and the Wealthiest 1% were shown to have more cash in the bank than ever and not spending it. Corporations were not investing and creating jobs nor were the wealthiest 1%. It sounds great in theory but has never been proven. We live in a consumer driven economy. One thing my brother and I disagreed on were the George W Bush taxcuts where there was a rebate provided to individual tax payers. Was it a good idea? Maybe not because it generated a false boom and sense of security that didn't really exist. But there is also no proof that giving corporations the rebate versus consumers would have magically created jobs as my brother claimed. The stock market is booming now because of all the deregulation happening or that is going to happen. But as @Marceline said what the stock market likes most is stability and steady growth. Harding and Hoover led to the depression, Reagan led to the Savings and Loan debacle and the crash of 1987, George W Bush led to bailouts needed for Wall Street to keep us from sinking into a depression. Next time it happens I doubt there will be any bailout and like 1929 even the rich bankers will go broke
  20. Op-Ed piece co-authored by Angela Davis about the re-rise of Women's rights and a general strike called for. The Women's March have not yet set a date for this although this piece referenced March 8th. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/feb/06/women-strike-trump-resistance-power
  21. This was always going to happen. And I don't believe Collins or Murkowski were any great votes of conscience. I believe they were allowed to vote against DeVos because their states were probably the greatest risk in losing and they knew they had 50 guaranteed votes. We live to fight again.
  22. Anyone wanting to fax your senators or congressperson, Fax Zero allows you to sent up to 5 faxes a day for nothing. It also has all the fax numbers accessible for all the congress people and senators. Free Fax Service to sent to your representatives - up to 5 faxes a day free.
  23. I don't have much use for The Intercept but this is interesting. Things going on people are deflected from. Yes man of the people Trump representing those he really cares about. Himself Donald Trumps Executive Order will let Private Equity Funds drain your 401k
  24. This is so disappointing. The democrats still flailing around. Good thing people have taken it upon themselves to stand up and protest and call and call and organize because waiting for these clowns would be like waiting for the Titanic to float again.
  25. By the way an old article from Fusion but worth a read as to why Bernie lost the black vote http://fusion.net/story/323539/how-bernie-sanders-lost-black-voters/
