NBC Daytime
Why was today a red letter day in soap opera history? Because of a strange little soap entitled FAIR MEADOWS USA. It was the only soap to be broadcast on Sunday! It was on NBC Sunday afternoons from 3-3:30 from Nov. 4, 1951 to Apr. 27, 1952, so basically 6 months. However, another oddity, it had a little coda, when in Sept. 1952 it reappeared with the same cast as a segment of THE KATE SMITH HOUR. Only lasted a month. John & Alice Alcott & their daughter Evie had lived in an unknown large city when John's business partner lost 250 thousand of their firm's money on a craps game! They moved to this small town & John opened a general store. They had hoped to outrun their misfortune, but this was a soap & so things just kept happening to them.

Makes me wonder who she would have been in Pine Valley. So, in July 1991 who appeared there?

I began liking LLC on THE CITY. Still like her. I loved her speech the other day. First she got onto Tracy for mentioning ECT & then she said, "I am not going to force him to take therapy he does not want. If he wants to sit & strum his guitar for the rest of his life & be Eddie Maine, I am going to make peace with it." Then the camera pans to NEddie & I am completely out of the moment because he looks like such a bum.

A few things about GEN. Had a 3 yr contract to start, not 2, as usual. It was said that the show had a white knight, a protector at NBC but that personnel changed & they lost their white knight. Then, at the 2 yr. mark, the axe. Always wondered. Such a good show. And, then, remarkable that BET immediately picked it up & reran it several times!

Aw, sorry to duplicate JJ. It was at the edge of my brain not to, but, ... and this other, "simulposting" Constance Towers, wow, a little serendipitous stuff going on. I hope someone is capturing all of these tributes for his kids. I think one of them is old enough to appreciate it now & the younger one will later, someday. It will be nice for them to see how beloved their father was.

I was one who steadfastly, stubbornly insisted that Jake would NOT have raped Marley. I was very gratified when I learned that was Donna Swajeski's opinion as well & that it was NBC who absolutely insisted that Jake rape Marley. I was thinking about your saying that soaps will go out of their way to rehab rapists. By & large, I think soaps have a very bad record when it comes to any kind of rehabilitation of rapists. Most of them seem to be just accepted into everyday life without either therapy or punishment. When DAYS had Jack Deveraux see a therapist, I think it was because they knew they wanted to pair him romantically with Jennifer Horton, the virginal heir apparent to the Alice Horton matriarchy. I think it was rather unusual. Are you aware of a lot of rapists who either were punished or were seen to be having therapy? And since everyone else is ragging on her, I'll take the Minority position of liking Judi's Paulina & I also didn't think she changed the role. I think she simply played what was written.

I can't remember if someone's posted JJ's yet. I don't think anyone has Constance/Helena & hers choked me up.

I was always for Jake & Paulina but I can definitely see how Judi could've played an amazing Nancy! And, then I'd for sure have been Team Nancy & Jake!

Well, we'll know when the coroner rules. But, it will be a thing. Right now it is easy to find where some people list Anne Heche's death as Aug. 12th when it was Aug. 11th. You know what I wish. I'm sure some might not find this worthy. But, I wish we knew who has Tyler's dog. I noticed him in the background of a Tyler pic & he was so devoted to him, ... and he is missing Tyler something awful.

Yes, I can confirm that. Her husband did get involved & they worked it out, the show & her. Our loss that her time was cut short but her health was at issue. On my forum last year we were looking at a clip where Brittany shot Peter & it was so clear that it was self defense & I tagged Sharon on the discussion & she came around & was just so funny, saying she had always alleged that it was self defense but they found her guilty & now she had the proof, finally! You know she was found guilty by the audience when AW did that stunt. Of course in that trial there was no videotape just testimony.

Yes, it is sad. And that's just GH. If we look at the whole soap community approximate numbers of deaths for the past few years it's something like 2021/25 deaths, 2022/28 deaths & 2023 so far/25 deaths & in that time we also experienced the pandemic. It's really been a rough time.

Yep, she apparently has "I've retired from acting." as her mantra, dadgummit. Loved Leo with Lois & their Math-Off! Amazing that we saw NEddie have a flashback to Ned's life! I cannot stand how scruffy Wally is! It actually distracts me from his acting! Love Tracy & Brook Lynn. Tracy even went soft & gooey at the end. Then my favorite thing from the day! Getting to hear Kevin dictate his notes on Charlotte Session 1. She is way too interested in the explanation of confidentiality. Satisfied, finally, that it is apparently a trick but it's a true one, she relates: Papa is just over thinking things. Nothing bad happened at boarding school. Hers was a typical 1st visit. (The next day the first thing Laura does is ask Kevin what Charlotte said!) 🤔🙄😮😉🤣

Yeah, that rootability is a big deal! We know that from our shows & it certainly is true to real life as well as reel life. So many people, myself included, have said that they just felt sure we would have him back as the dark prince.

I don't know whether this is a kind of fatigue with death & grief or if it's that Tyler is really touching a lot of folk, but whatever it is, it seems to be hitting many people extra hard.
