Seriously. This election had nothing to do with economic anxiety or national security. It was about Obama. These white people saw an increasingly black government making decisions about their lives and they began to realize what it means to be a minority. It doesn't matter that he wanted to create economic opportunity for them or that he didn't want them to go bankrupt because they got sick. They experienced for a few years what it's like to have people who don't look like you making the decisions and they lost their [!@#$%^&*] minds. This is the same thing that Bernie or busters did. All these white progressives got pissed when black and brown people didn't think he was the bestest thing ever so lot of them stayed home or voted for Trump out of revenge. Somebody on another board reminded me that when MLK Day became a holiday white racists couldn't bring themselves to honor a black man even if it got them a day off from work.

You aren't thinking like someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Even when they fail they don't admit it. Trump has a lifetime of failures both personal and professional yet he still sees himself a winner. The real reason I think he won't resign is because Putin would have him killed.

I think a lot of the party infighting will die down once Obama's out of the White House. Once he's out, he and Michelle become the face of the party. He's already said that his next big issue will be redistricting. It's not fun or sexy but it's necessary as hell and Obama has the same talent Bill Clinton has for taking nerdy policy stuff and making it accessible. While Bill Clinton will move into a more Jimmy Carter style role. Meaning he becomes the face of another former Dem president saving the world.

Obama is definitely coming back. He said so on a post election conference call with volunteers. He said basically what you did. We have a little time to lick our wounds then it's time to start organizing. He said that he's limited in what he can say or do until he's a private citizen but once he is, he and Michelle are going to take a vacation then come Feb/March they are jumping back into the ring with us. "I'm still fired up and still ready to go." No lie, I cried when I read his remarks.

The problem is that there simply aren't any decent Republicans anymore. Sure you've got John McCain and Lindsay Graham at least trying to be sane but any member of the GOP who might be willing to stand up has been neutered or drummed out of the party entirely. Plus with the Russian hacking don't think for one second that a lot of these people aren't being blackmailed into silence. I think our only real hope is some kind of massive backlash in 2018 and given the rampant stupidity and learned helplessness from people on both sides I'm not hopeful that can happen.

As politically active as I clearly am, one subject I stay completely away from is Israel/Palestine. I've never seen a conversation about that subject that didn't dissolve completely.

Keep in mind that there's a significant number of conservatives who blame Obama for the response to Hurricane Katrina. These are people who will believe anything they are told no matter how ridiculous. We saw it when Donald claimed that he saw Muslims celebrating in New Jersey when the towers fell. His followers swore they saw it too. The Jedi Mind Trick is real with these folks.

What's amazing is that 9/11 happened because Bush ignored a briefing that said "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US" but now we've put this cretin in office who doesn't even attend briefings. I predict will have another 9/11 or Oklahoma City in the next four years.

All America is doing is given vulnerable subset of people an excuse to radicalize. Anybody who thinks we'll be safer under the Snatchgrabber is fooling themselves (again). After 9/11 Bush reached out to the Muslim community and that was the right thing to do. But again, we live in a country full of stupid, mean people who think that just because they "feel" something it must be true.

Yeah, that's why I'm not here for these "change" voters. Most of them can't even begin to articulate what change they want. They simply assume that it will benefit them.

The problem is that these lefty populists can't be counted on. We saw how quickly they gave in to misogyny and racism when they didn't get what they wanted. They are very much like the Tea Party. Unreasoning, uncompromising and vicious. How easily did they pick up right wing talking points and run with them? Including Mr. Reich himself.

I'm continually amazed at how often Americans want to keep sending our volunteer military to war.

I will hate Bernie Sanders and his ignorant radicals for the rest of my life. My mother grew up in the Jim Crow south and people like them decided to send her back to that because they didn't get their woobie for Christmas.

Exactly. That's the kind of hype we need less of.

Khan, one day you and I are going to throw down about Obama the way Vee and I used to fight about Evangeline Williamson.

Yeah, the only pleasure to be had for the next few years is going to be saying "I told you so."

It's not startling at all. Bernie's supporters oozed bitterness and misogyny.

They have a right to exist. That doesn't mean that they shouldn't be opposed and shunned at every opportunity.

Moonves said it all. Trump may be bad for the country but he's good for CBS. That's why I refuse to watch.

My understanding is that concession is a courtesy nothing more. It's a tradition that honors our peaceful transition of power. It's not like if she'd refused to concede Donald couldn't be president. All of Trump's cabinet picks would be scrapped because he would no longer be president-elect. As much as I want Trump out of office I shudder at what would happen to and with Hillary if she took office under those circumstances. She's given so much and for her to have to deal with that level of vitriol would pretty much mean she could never leave the White House.

I haven't been on board with the electoral college choosing Hillary because I thought it would lead to chaos but more and more I realize that we're going to get chaos with this guy in the White House. At least with Hillary most of the chaos would be domestic, not international.
