It's not surprising that people who have spent their lives seeing what happens under authoritarian regimes would be the first to walk out. They know what's coming and what would be demanded of them. They know they will be asked to turn on this country.

Her full explanation was excellent because it highlighted that a lot goes on that the public doesn't know about. The nihilist left is every bit as willfully ignorant as the tea party and just as vicious. Warren answered her accusers in a straightfoward style and she did it without allowing them to put her on the defensive. She made a case that reasonable people could understand and managed to shine a light on just how the tea party left will drag us to hell if we don't check them. I hope to see more Dems do the same. The hardcore Berniacs will never stop looking for revenge but this is a good way to cultivate people who genuinely care about principles over personality but need to learn how to channel that in more strategic ways.

There have always been cases of disaster relief being done poorly but once Obama took office it also became politicized. That's how desperate the GOP was to make people suffer for political points. Remember the reaction to Chris Christie welcoming Obama after Sandy. Just another example of people willing to kill themselves or others all in the name of racism and/or partisanship. This country is full of people who'd rather die under a white president than live under a black one.

Same. I hate having to become this person but these folks won't learn unless they suffer hard. I like to check in with www.areyousorryyet.com every day just to watch these people get what they deserve.

Definitely. Not just because of Trump either. Voter suppression laws are here to stay so organizing means finding a way to get around them.

The funny thing is Trump is alleging voter fraud in CA and NY, two states that have been solid blue in presidential elections for decades. Only in TrumpCultLand would anyone be surprised that Hillary won them.

It will be interesting to see the excuses made by Repubs who vote against it.

The truth is that there's plenty of nihilism on both sides and those nihilists will show up to any protest either as provocateurs to make us look bad or because they just want to watch the world burn. I don't approve of Spencer getting punched because the next person who gets punched might just be some innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time. The person who punched Spencer was very likely from the same anarchist group that broke windows during the march. These are the people who get other people killed. That said, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't watching all the video of Spencer getting clocked set to music: http://www.thefader.com/2017/01/23/richard-spencer-punched-to-music-memes. I'm rather partial to the one set to Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On."

I'm not religious by any stretch but I've been enjoying the writing of John Pavlovitz. He's an Evangelical pastor who has put his fellow Evangelicals on blast for exactly the hypocrisy you describe. http://johnpavlovitz.com/

Exactly. If millions voted illegally then let's start some investigations and hearings. We need to arrest these people before the midterms.

Four Trump nominees have cleared committee. I agree that Carson alone isn't worth it but there are others who are more valuable.

For both Sherrod and Liz to vote like that, something's going on.

Ladies and gentlemen, the party of small government! Re: Carson, I don't understand. There's no upside to voting for him unless...I see that Sessions' vote got delayed so I wonder if there was a deal made.

He can get away with it because the Republicans in Congress are every bit as corrupt as he is.

Plus Bernie's up for re-election in 2018. I know that Al Giordano has discussed a primary challenge. If that happens I think you'll see some Dems help out in the background. I know that I'll throw money at the guy. Maybe if Bernie has to focus on Vermont, he'll have less time to screw over the country.

The good thing is that now these shifty tactics of his are out in the spotlight. He made it through the primary with no one holding him responsible for bad votes, his call to primary Obama, his willingness to sabotage out of political purity, etc...but now that he helped bring us here he will never enjoy that kind of honeymoon again.- The Politics Thread
One of the "I told you so's" we need to keep saying is that experience and knowledge matter. I friend of mine who was raised by a malignant narcissist says that's a very popular tactic. It makes people desperate to please them just out of self preservation.- The Politics Thread

That was true under Obama. It's not true anymore. We're no longer a democracy. The will of the people no longer counts. - The Politics Thread
