Let's be honest, there aren't any good options here. This country is awash in ignorance on both the right and the left. Trump has shown us just how utterly corrupt and devoid of decency the GOP is all the way through and lazy people who need a rock star to vote will continue to sabotage us along with the purity progs. With Trump or without we're looking at the end of the Republic.

At this point I want Obama to announce his 2020 campaign just to screw with him.

I'm following #trumppressconference on Twitter. It's amazing to see his fans acting like he's tearing it up.

It sounds glorious. That's what I keep hoping for. A full Joan Crawford public breakdown.

Yeah, if Hilz had won all these folks saying "Get over it" would be running the streets with guns. Hell they did it with Obama. You could tell they were gearing up to start [!@#$%^&*]. You can tell the GOP is trying to kneecap Elizabeth Warren for a 2020 run but she loves it. She's all "Come at me, bro!" Plus I don't think she wants to run. Warren understands better than most of her supporters how vital Congress is.

I don't believe we can ever go back. Personally I can never unknow that people I considered decent had so much hate and darkness inside them nor will I forget the people who called themselves allies becoming so treacherous. There's no putting this ugliness back in the bottle.

Trump's doubled down everything the purity progs said made it impossible to vote for her.

He's been getting increasingly incoherent. Even his tweets. My only question is whether or not this decompensation is all natural or is it being helped along by someone in his circle.

There's not going to be a new election. Even if Trump is impeached, the GOP still runs the table and all they care about is power.

I don't how much to believe this but it's a lovely thought.

People need to realize that Pence is already in charge in many ways. All that anti-choice, anti-LGBT stuff from the administration is coming from Pence. Trump never cared about that stuff. He was pro-choice until he decided to run. Pence is the one sitting in security briefings. He's not just hanging out in the White House doing crossword puzzles. He's enacting his agenda through Trump.

I've been wondering who would be the first to leave this administration. I'm happy it was Flynn.

People in the intelligence community are now purposely withholding information from Trump because they think he's untrustworthy.

I see that as the Latinx version of black respectability politics. Just like Bill Cosby spent inordinate amounts of time and energy telling black kids to pull their pants up while he was raping every woman he could get his hands on.

A lot of them have gone quiet but they are very happy about this. One of my right leaning friends posted just today about how quiet his Trump voting friends are and a bunch of them jumped in to tell him that they are happy with what they are seeing. Don't count the silence as regret. Assume it's stealth.

I feel for you. My mother grew up in Jim Crow Mississippi and she's practically having flashbacks. What's sickening is that Trump's supporters want us all to be afraid. The only thing that makes them feel good is the idea that they are hurting someone else.

Gerrymandering is a big part of the reason a lot of people feel like they don't belong. When districts are designed to become "safe" then representatives no longer need to worry about reaching across the aisle and they no longer feel the need to appeal to independents and moderates because those people have no influence and present no danger.

That's fine with me. My GOP friends (yes, I still have some) are incensed by her confirmation. I'm perfectly happy for her to stay in the spotlight because she's an excellent organizing tool. Preach. I'm laser focused on working on Sherrod Brown's re-election campaign. His last race was the most expensive one in the country because the Kochs dumped a fortune into it. Now the same weasel that ran against him last time is doing it again but now he's a Trump mini-me, talking about a rigged system and backing a heinously racist piece of anti-immigrant legislation. Part of me is hoping that will backfire on him as the wheels keep coming off the Trump administration. Kasich is term limited out so the Governors race is still forming because everyone is "considering" throwing their hat into the ring.- The Politics Thread
And because we know this is going to sting. Let's compare the number of likes/retweets.- The Politics Thread
I disagree. Identity politics is why the GOP won. I agree that the Dems screwed up royally during the midterms. I was so furious by the timidity that I stopped donating but let's not pretend that Trump's win wasn't about identity politics. It just that the identity of his voters is considerd the default in America. Hillary got 3 million more votes so clearly something about the message resonated. This wasn't a close election like Bush v. Gore. Trump lost the popular vote decisively even with help from the Russians and Comey and only the EC saved him. He won by 70,000 votes in the right states. Think about that. Trump's margin of win wouldn't even fill the Rose Bowl. There's a saying that "the left falls in love while the right falls in line." One big problem on the left is that our voters need to be inspired to vote instead of realizing that voting is the maintenance we perform on a democracy. Where we're at now is basically the result of people who didn't bother to change the batteries in the smoke alarm and now they're sitting here watching the house burn down and screaming at the rest of us to put the flames out with a garden hose.- The Politics Thread
I look forward to hearing how the people at that town hall were members of the coastal elite of Utah.- The Politics Thread
Of course. A chance to spew his bullshit talking points without question and goose the base.- The Politics Thread
CNN as a network will always kowtow to Trump. Individual reporters may step up but the network never will.- The Politics Thread
This is good news and it's probably the reason KaC is shilling from the press room. Trump enjoyed thinking that the markets would shudder for his every tweet. Now Wall Street is basically saying "Whatever Pops. Shut up and eat your jello." - The Politics Thread
