  1. I loved Julie both as a romantic heroine in the 70s and a sophisticated businesswoman in the 90s. Unfortunately, she didn't last in either incarnation. When Reilly brought her back, his writing had become increasingly broad and SSH decided/was directed to play to the cheap seats. She hasn't stopped since. It's given her longevity, but it really is a shame, because SSH is best at quiet, heartfelt moments and dry, wry wit. The real Julie would size up and dismiss Leo (and Xander and Gwen and Gabi and other pebbles in her shoe) with a devastating bon mot and withering glance. But Ron doesn't write her that way. Nonetheless, I am always happy to see her on screen, just as I am Maggie and Marlena.
  2. But Greg Rikaart later says he thinks it's more like 4-6 months. I hope he's closer to the truth.
  3. I doubt that would happen. Peacock needs a constant stream (no pun intended) of fresh content. Even if it were just a hundred people watching Days ever day, it would behoove Peacock to keep them on the subscriber rolls as long as possible rather than giving them a reason to cancel the service early. NBC lost 750,000 viewers in the 1:00 hour with the switch from Days to NBC News Today. I'm not running around in circles about it, I'm laughing.
  4. It's across all TV platforms. It's certainly not an exact science -- Parrot Analytics "quantifies interest in shows based on viewing, online buzz, press coverage, etc." - but its data is consulted by a lot of media companies and content creators. As to the continued viability of Peacock: The first official hint we’ll get about how Days’ performance will probably come when Peacock owner Comcast announces quarterly earnings late next month. The company will almost surely reveal how many new subscribers the service signed up over the past three months, and it’s possible execs will include a mention of what part Days played in boosting subscribers, assuming a large increase comes to pass. And odds are, Peacock will get a big bump this quarter due to a slew of high-profile content beyond Days, including the summer run of Love Island and new drama Vampire Academy, and big movies such as Jurassic World: Dominion and Minions: The Rise of Gru.
  5. From an email newsletter by The Vulture's Joe Adalian: As for how Days is doing so far on Peacock, that’s a much trickier proposition. One not-so-great sign: Parrot Analytics says audience demand for Days actually declined during the soap’s first full week as a streaming exclusive. Days went from having 11.6 times the demand of an average show in the U.S. to a 10.1 demand score, a drop of 13 percent. That’s not what you’d expect for a series making such a big move and getting more publicity than it has since the last time somebody was possessed by the Devil. But given how little time there was to promote the switch — and the relatively small footprint of the Days audience when it was on NBC — it’s not that surprising. Unless the internal data for Days ends up looking awful, I’d say odds are good Peacock will be patient. For one thing, the show is very inexpensive on a cost-per-episode compared to so much other streaming content. What’s more, Peacock doesn’t have a ton of megahits, so it doesn’t take a lot for a show to have a positive impact. Even if the Days audience ends up being relatively small, if it consists of a decent number of new subscribers and shows up consistently, then it could have similar value — and cost efficiency — than more high-profile titles. Plus, Peacock really doesn’t want to make enemies out of 2 million loyal soap-opera fans.
  6. Seriously. Congress should pass a law against soap spoilers. Because I obviously don't have the strength of character to avoid them myself.
  7. My problem with Kristen -- and supervillains in general -- is that you can't write human-scale stories for them after they've kidnapped, killed, bought people back from the dead, etc. This custody battle between Kristen and Brady is ridiculous. She'd just take Rachel and travel the word with her. Unless she's doing it to get under Brady's skin, but that's not what's coming across on screen. Happy to confirm I can continue to watch the show on Peacock through Xfinity without coughing up any extra cash.
  8. Quite the metaphor for NBC's handling of the show's final weeks on air.
  9. I have a free account through Xfinity. When I search for Beyond Salem, I get a listing for Beyond Salem: Chapter 2 ... but the episodes underneath it are actually the Chapter 1 episodes. Actual Chapter 2 episodes are nowhere to be found. A crackerjack interface like that is certainly worth paying for!
  10. I think she was way over the top in that scene and throughout most of her AW tenure. But I acknowledge I was not an objective observer. I was always thinking of how Beverlee would have played Carmen's scenes -- and that was unfair. I grew to like Carmen, though I never bought her as the Iris I knew.
  11. Yes. It is indeed counter to what we've been told, so I don't know what to believe. https://www.woodtv.com/news/days-of-our-lives-moves-to-peacock-on-sept-12-heres-how-to-watch/
  12. My local NBC station published a primer today that included this: New episodes of the show will be available weekdays starting at 5 a.m., Central Time. It also said that shows will be available for viewers who aren't Peacock subscribers: There are multiple tiers for Peacock subscribers. Free – This will let you watch the new daily episodes, plus up to 100 past episodes. $4.99 per month – This will let you watch the new daily episodes, ALL past episodes and exclusive shows like “Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem.” $9.99 per month – This will let you watch the new and ALL past episodes and the exclusive shows all ad-free!
  13. Well, that was fun. I was amazed at how many of them I remembered ... and how many went on to bigger things.
  14. It looks like NBC is just throwing up its hands – the Wall Street Journal reports today that the network is considering stopping programming the 10pm to 11pm hour and turning the time back over to affiliates.
  15. Let me echo the thanks for this episode. I believe this is just before AW went to 90 minutes and inserted a lot of new characters (and a lot of filler). I found myself switching to OLTL during AW commercials and the actors/characters featured in this episode made me linger a fair amount in Llanview the next couple of years.
  16. This is bad news for theaters, too, because blockbuster movies like Aquaman are the only ones pulling people in. Weird. I watch Peacock on my computer and Days has completely vanished from my home screen, I had to search for it for the first time since I first signed on. And I don't see any reminders.
  17. Oh, I don't know if I'd characterize it as "desperate." Hulu offered a 99 cents a month deal last December (following a $1.99 a month deal the Xmas season before). They have a heck of a lot more subscribers than Peacock. I think this and the Halloween Ends news are positive for DAYS.
  18. Terrible. I've been checking his Twitter feed occasionally in the past two weeks to get his further takes on the DAYS move, and there's been nothing new since Aug. 4. RIP.
  19. Seems like they should be doing a lot more groundwork to prepare people to alter a years- or decades-long viewing habit.
  20. Have there been any ads or crawls or anything alerting network viewers to the change?
  21. When I say radio silence from the show I mean something from Ken Corday, Ron Carlivati, Albert Alarr or any other Days of our Lives executives. Heck, I'd settle for a comment from Deidre Hall. They all rush out to social media, Soap Opera Digest and other places the moment a renewal is announced, why nothing now?
  22. Still complete radio silence from the show. Could Corday possibly be trying to fight the move?
