  1. Yes: Peacock, the streaming service of Comcast’s NBCUniversal, ended the second quarter with 13 million paid subscribers. This means that Peacock’s paid subscriber base, as of the end of June, stalled with zero growth. Also, Comcast revealed that losses at Peacock widened to $467 million (EBITDA), from an adjusted EBITDA loss of $363 million in 2021.
  2. Okay, not exactly a fifth Today hour, but close: NBC will fill the gap left by Days with a new one-hour news program, NBC News Daily, anchored by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen, and Morgan Radford.
  3. From IMDB (so I can't vouch for its reliability): Esther and Richard Shapiro, the creators of DYNASTY, are friends of former head writer Harding Lemay. They not only named their family after Lemay's super bitch Iris Carrington, but the Krystle-Blake-Fallon triangle was borrowed heavily from the Rachel-Mac-Iris story. The Shapiros have also claimed they modeled Joan Collins' Alexis after the super glamorous Iris.
  4. I certainly didn't notice this at the time but it's kind of cool how the mirrors in Jason & Sharlene's scene and Felicia's scene foreshadow his death in the Hall of Mirrors.
  5. Yes, if this is supposed to be a murder mystery, it's the most ineptly set up one in the show's history (and that covers a lot of murders). It's hard for me to get too upset since death means nothing on DAYS, but I like Marci and the show is going to suffer without a viable heroine in her age range. On a shallow note, I think Marci has been looking exceptionally pretty of late.
  6. Sad news -- Ray Liotta has died. I loved him as quintessential good guy Joey Perrini on AW. Who knew he'd build a long career on playing bad guys? RIP. https://deadline.com/2022/05/ray-liotta-dies-67-goodfellas-1235033521/
  7. I really like Zach Tinker, but he's about as convincing as a business tycoon as Brandon Barash was. Which is to say, not at all.
  8. She was indeed so good back then. I don't think she's given more than a handful of good performances in the last 20 years, but I still love her based on what she did back then. Also nice to see a reminder of the Maggie-Marlena friendship, which disappeared from the screen eons ago.
  9. Yeah, I think this is pretty rivalrous:
  10. Given the anemic ratings of the spin-offs, I'd say the public was none too interested.
  11. I can't believe Days doesn't have a vaccine mandate with all the over-70s (and 80s and 90s) in the cast.
  12. I was young and dumb, so you can't go by me, but I totally bought into it because of the way Laura was preying on Julie's insecurities in their psychiatric sessions. "Of course, Doug says he still loves you, but it's really his sense of obligation. He married a beautiful woman and now he's going to be saddled with a circus freak for the rest of his life. If you really love him, you owe it to him to let him move on." Much more subtle than that, of course, but that was the gist. 😀
  13. Such an impressive array of acting talent on AW back them, all saddled to horribly boring stories.
  14. Is that the show's intent? Because I am most assuredly on Anna's side here.
  15. Thanks, I loved this and the earlier video with Susan interviewing Suzanne. I've long given up on any hope of decent storylines on this show, but I still tune in to see actors/characters -- and these two are at the top of my list. No matter what the writers have done to Julie and Maggie over the years, I still see them as the complex, compelling and emotionally rich characters they once were. Kudos to both ladies.
  16. I wasn't watching much from '83-'86, so it's a real treat when something like this turns up. Thanks for posting it!
  17. Speaking of Alice Barrett, she showed up on this week's episode of NBC's "The Thing About Pam" as a Dateline producer. Looks like she'll be in future episodes. It's a testament to her that, as much as I loved Cass & Kathleen, I was still conflicted about who I wanted to "win" when Julie Osburn returned.
  18. Will, Sonny and Craig talked about Leo's involvement in Beyond Salem's jewel storyline, so I'd say it is indeed canon.
  19. With luck, the fallout from Chanel-Allie will give Tripp some edge. It would be nice if he decided the nice-guy route isn't getting him anywhere and he became a bit darker.
  20. Denise Cavanaugh plotted to commit suicide and frame her husband Miles for murder on EON. Viewers thought she did it, though it was Miles' sister April who ended up going to prison for killing her. As you'd expect from Henry Slesar, of course, there was a twist.
  21. I think early exposure to Lemay gave me the mindset to enjoy the types of movie and TV that a lot of people criticize for plotlessness. "Nothing happened!" Me: "What do you mean, character X had an epiphany!" Looking back, it's pretty incredible that AW was so popular in that format, especially when you consider where we are today, when soap viewers bash anything that doesn't advance the plot. Loved seeing that old clip. I just have very vague impressions of Sam and Lahoma, but I know I was thrilled to see Lana Wedgeworth show up on Three's Company because I had such good feelings about her.
  22. Thank you for this. I just read a new NYT story that makes some of the same points you did – and reports that, for all this, South Africa is one of the most vaccinated countries on the African continent.
  23. While this is largely true, the fact is that South Africa has all the vaccines it needs, and last week asked J&J and Pfizer to delay delivery of vaccines because it had too much stock (reported by Bloomberg and Reuters). The problem there is vaccine resistance, not lack of availability.
