I totally agree! The priorities are all wrong in the tennis media, but they’ll continue to dine out on Serena because she’s the only name on the WTA who’ll get clicks at the moment. At the same time, any of those above players can pull a Wawrinka and totally redline out of the blue and win a big tournament. It’s just... weird. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen someone other than Serena play consistently at the highest level like Vika did back in 2012–13.

I agree. But it also speaks to how poorly the rest of the field has played day-in and day-out. At almost every event recently, the seeds have been slaughtered. Only three are left in Wuhan. Maybe Kerber was the last No. 1 who really felt like “the best player in the world” over more than a few weeks. Or maybe we have to go as far back as Serena. But since then we’ve had Muguruza, Pliskova, Wozniacki (again), all of whom have underperformed or stumbled under the weight of expectations.

Halep has a crazy lead in the rankings currently, around 2500 above Wozniacki. It’s hard to single her out for being inconsistent, looking at how the rest of the top 10 have performed this year.

Well, she dumped Wim Fissette, who has gotten Kerber’s career back on track (an Aussie SF and a Wimbledon title). Not entirely sure what happened there. It was said Fissette wanted more money to continue coaching her.

Yeah, I was very surprised as well. Also, there’s a virtual tie between the shows rated No. 3 through No. 9. I’m actually most surprised at how poorly Top Chef and the MDL shows perform relative to the other series. I know TC isn’t as relevant now that Food Network has stolen a lot of their thunder, but still.
