Taiwan, which had been doing so well (my friends there basically went about life as normal, mask-free, throughout most of the pandemic), saw a spike this week and is implementing restrictions. My friend shared some photos of bare supermarket shelves and long checkout lines on IG that recalled the early days of the pandemic here. Coco was in form this week (beating Sakkari and Sabalenka) and Swiatek played her rain-delayed QF just hours ago whereas Coco had a retirement-shortened match yesterday against Barty, plus a day of rest. Iga wound up winning but it was a tough battle. Hopefully she has enough in the tank for tomorrow against Karolina.

Reilly Opelka looks like a clown with that long hair and beard and the cap and tie-dyed shirt. Super unlucky for Swiatek to face Coco so soon after her quarterfinal against Svitolina.
