GH didnt downgrade them. Both actors asked to be taken off contract and they will continue to work on GH and are working around their college schedules they went off contract to attend College not to go primetime or do films. Both have said they want to remain at GH.

I remember many wondering why they picked Kay, who had to leave NY & ATWT for GH over LL i wonder if since she didnt get Lois, ABC just gave her the Part on OLTL Tonya Crowe (Olivia, Knots Landing) was a finalist for Lois when GH cast Rena Sofer in 1993

Sydney & William asked to go recurring because of taking college classes but both want to remain on GH. James Patrick Stuart who plays Valentin has never been on contract with GH in his 5 plus years on the show & he gets major story a lot. Being recurring doesnt mean we wont see Trina and Cam. It just gives the actors control to work GH around their classes & Im sure GH knows what they have with this younger set & know it would be dumb to lose them. So I bet they will work with them.
