  1. I was going to day she looks more like Beverley Penberthy's Pat. But Pat Nixon is a better fit.
  2. I liked the character at first but grew to feel wary about him as he moved closer to resembling the nastier side of men in my family - my father's generation. His cousins. Some in laws on both sides. Similar culture. But I was always wonder what he was shouting by showing off his martial arts moves in the opening credits. (The disco opening where the lighthouse LIGHT is replaced by a disco ball) Is it HE - LEN - A !
  3. Be careful what you ask. Would you want that nut stalking you?
  4. I remember an old interview show in French with Celine Dion after she'd done Beauty and the Beast with him, early in her career. She gushed about how supportive he was.
  5. A wealthy character can fit whatever shortcuts a plot may require. Money pays for planes and helicopters and ships. And motor vehicles. A wealthy character is like an escape hatch. No financial restrictions. Now almost everyone has the resources of a wealthy character.
  6. So much truth. I think it was it was mostly tone-deafness from P&G, but they had their "current music" moments on ATWT with mentions of Pearl Jam. No one explained the band name. I remember an unintentionally hilarious '70s episode of Another World when Rachel walks in on teenage Jamie listening to loud music, and he turns it down. I remember doing that in the 1970s. Bowie. Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd. But it wasn't because I was listening to the "it's a car!" music from The Price is Right.
  7. She was only two years younger than a previous Alice played by the useless Wesley Anne Pfenning. (Whose name reminds me of a memorable episode of Golden Girls - with Mr Pah- feiffer and the pah- funeral, and Sofia's threat to punch him in the pah-face)
  8. Thanks for this. Then she was replaced by Taylor Miller who was almost a decade older. Miller would have been more believable as an Alice recast.
  9. Errol, as far as I know the only problems I encountered where when you were fixing things, so no problems at all really. Thank you for your hard work. I wonder how many glitches happened while you were tweaking things and should therefore be left to the muses.
  10. He did but was gone in a flash. More handsome but in a bad boy way. Much younger. Not sure of the timing but he seemed to disappear after Russ Matthews beat the crap out of him. It wasn't long after that Russom was a contrite Willis asking Mack for a job, which he got for a time.
  11. I have no memory of Roy either. I remember Vince being used by Angie, played by Maeve Kincaid (sp?) Who was obsessed with Willis (g-d knows why) and eventually Vince turned to Mimi the waitress for solace. Vince wasn't much. I remember he was injured and had some kind of temporary brain damage. That eas when when the great Kathleen Widdoes was playing Angie's mother Rose. They were so good together, a bit of a Rachel/Ada retread but quite conpelling. And Rose wasn't as kind as Ada. Leon Russom (sp?) Was a capable actor but much as I tried to understand Maeve's Angie (she was arguably the most beautiful woman on the show) and her obsession with Willis it never gelled, despite her efforts as an actress. And she was good then, just a hint of what she could be on GL. Russom didn't have the charisma. That version of Angie would have been more believable going after someone like Mac and squaring off against Rachel and iris. Or a more dynamic recast of Willis.
  12. Oh please don't say that! I know they weren't that far apart in age but Cali seemed so much younger and her quiter approach made the character for me. The "Lolita" decription wouldn't work as well with Mattson. I don't believe she could have feigned that innocent curiosity, vulnerable disguise as easily. Maybe too much GH baggage for me. But don't take me too seriously. I wasn't more than an occasional watcher until Maggie showed up and was mesmerized. It helped that her mother was played by 1940s screen starlet Gloria DeHaven. No, I am not that old but my Gran had stacks of old magazines at her summer cottage in the woods where I spent childhood summer vacation. Saw DeHaven as a starlet and then later on Mary Hartman and Ryan's Hope, she aged well. Was so disappointed when Cali Timmins was replaced by Judi Evans on Another World. I met Cali's sister Margo after a concert by her band The Cowboy Junkies a long time ago. Indulged a bit too much in my lungs and up my nose, plus a few cocktails straight from the bottle, to remember much other than it was a pleasant experience. Margo said she she'd tell her sister how much we fans loved her.
  13. A period piece, start with the novel. Include Selena's pregnancy and murder trial, her mother's...Work from there. Not a daily soap, but something bingeable.
  14. I loved the very regal sounding GL theme when he was in charge. Not my favourite GL theme music, but better than anything that followed.
  15. Louise Penny's series of mystery novels about Insoector Armand Gamache.
  16. I didn't get interested until Lana Turner showed up and the big season finale with Julia brandishing a gun, BANG, and then the cliffhanger of all those ... feet... watching some one's coffin being interred. Great season finale. I believe it was the following season when the opening theme was lengthened. It felt like an event.
  17. Didn't Jo one run for mayor of Henderson? And my favourite soap opening theme of all time is the pipe organ version of this show.
  18. Ryan, you're in for a lot of fun, especially between the two most hateful characters Carl and Theo. Carl's pursuit of Theo, if only to bug and harrass the ceap out out of him, and even the suggestion that they could have gotten together sexually is plausible and hilarious, but also dark.
  19. It was a big deal seeing Rosemary Prinz do commercials for All My Children before it debuted. I would have been eleven years old and while ABC felt a bit low-rent compared to CBS and NBC, it was a bit more innovative. I believe the AMC promos with Prinz aired in the evening, otherwise I wouldn't have seen them. She stood, smiling, in front of other cast members and said something like, "Join me.... for All My Children... starting...." I think we still had a B&W TV.
  20. I don't want to spoil anything.
  21. I didn't mind the name - but the way they arrived at it... In my generation and those before it was commonplace to name the first born son after his father, but also cousins might be named after the same man if he was a belovrd incle/brother. Glad to see that gone. Led to too many Johns in my family. But maybe GL and other soaps thought it was an attempt at realism. When I think of Coronation Street, over the years there were many women of a certain age whose names were variations or derivatives of Elizabeth. Named after both Queens no doubt. Made sense, refelcted reality. But I agree with you. There is no shortage of names to choose from. Why make it confusing?
  22. I'll be careful what I post then. I'm on the Canadian schedule, about three weeks behind the UK but ahead of you.
  23. The choice of the name Marah, and its reasoning as a combo Josh & Reva's mothers' names was met with roars of laughter in our household. My sister was pregnant, expecting a daughter, and our mother said "Please do not name that child Lougery!" (Louise + Margery) Sometimes my niece Caroline still gets called Luge. She hates the Winter Olympics.
  24. I assumed the same thing
