  1. That rings a bell with me. It might have been addressed at other times - something about her father Vince wanting, or expecting, a boy. She was portrayed as the tomboy sister, cop stereotype. My sisters loved her for that.
  2. Rita talking to her shrink about her attraction to Alan was riveting.
  3. The Party is great fun but not because of her. I thought the drunk waiter was the funniest. I remember her singing with a guitar "nutting to looze if vee are vize.." Often she appeared on her then husband's show, sometimes dragging along their children, always singing that same Tangerine song in different costumes.
  4. Thanks DeeVee. What you explain makes more sense. But then again, if she did go off and get a new coiff after future scenes had been taped I can see a problem. I liked her too, she was a Judi/Beth type foreshadowed, with her clipped way of speaking. I felt like we all knew someone like her. An attractive girl who didn't realize how attractive she was.
  5. That first one with the Claudine Longet Ski Invitational was hilarious. I was in my teens whe it aired, watching with older siblings. We had already been questioning her account of the incident. SNL was a new show then. We roared laughing.
  6. Isn't it though?
  7. Disgusting
  8. I remember reading Vigard was fired for getting an unauthorized hair cut.
  9. No argument from me. Though Rauch had his own flaws as well. I believe they were as brilliant together as they could be so blindly wrongheaded. I think the two together, Lemay and Rauch, brought it to its pinnacle, but also damn near destroyed it. It's as if neither one knew when to stop imposing their wills, like neither took a step back. I liked Virginia Dwyer as Mary but if she was that much of a problem, stick her in the background for a while. Susan Harney was ok as a soap actress with big blonde hair but she didn't have the charisma to be a lead, to be Alice. She might have been more suited to be Liz's daughter Susan.
  10. However, the Diane Ballard murder is my favourite GL story
  11. But that confrontation between Carrie and Vanessa was worth it. And those two powerhouse actresses gave it their all.
  12. I didn't know about Robert Young's suicide attempt. I di d Remember him from Sanka (decaffeinated coffee) commercials when he behaved like he needed less caffeine. The typical commercial had Robert Young offering Sanka to someo e who says "I only drink REAL coffee" and Young gets all indignant shouting "SANKA IS REAL COFFEE!" Kinda defeating the purpose of less caffeine.
  13. I should give it a look.
  14. Yes. Lemay had turned into a snob. His humble background not withstanding.
  15. Lemay loved her. And so did I. Others should have been goven that option
  16. Yes, there are multiple characters who died with their portayers. Off the top of my head, maybe the first I remember, was Marge Bergman on Search for Tomorrow. They allowed Mac Cory to die. They allowed Ada to die. But why were some deemed too important to die? I think of Nicholas on GH. My favourite actor in that character has died. Just my feelings. I have no real defensible opinion, just wondering about when it works and when it doesn't. Thanks all
  17. I wasn't aware of that
  18. This made me laugh but it isn't all that funny. https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/14/us/kansas-mayor-coldwater-ice-custody-hnk
  19. When did TPTB start recasting characters after the death of the original actor? I used to think it unseemly but am willing to admit I was being heavy-handed. Alan Spaulding is the first in my memory but there were probably others before that. Since then it's happened a number of times, though not immediately as far as I know. In primetime Bewitched was quick to recast Gladys Kravitz back in the 1960s. I was a kid then and didn't care much.
  20. Thanks for that. She doesn't look as old as I remembered - it's Ray McD who looks young. And John Callahan was still so handsome. Now I'll go watch the rest!
  21. The more I hear about my favourite soap period, the more sour I feel. And the more clearly I see how it all came crashing down. Everything you say is true. As for teleprompters, can't say for sure, but there were times when Constance Ford, as Ada, appeared to be reading from one. But I'd forgove her anything. Acoording to Lemay, Jacquie Courtenay was writing crib notes on her hands. It was either Courtenay, or Virginia Dwyer who played her mother, or both, who were supposedly also leaving crib notes I've read his book a few times, I have it on an old tablet. Each time there seems to be a lot more between the lines.
  22. News to me. I didn't watch much of it but I was taken aback by her appearance. Wasn't she wearing braids, Like Charlotte Hollis? But I didn't think "Bette Davis" on seeing her - I thought a slightly younger Ruth Gordon.
  23. I wish I could be more precise about when it aired.
  24. Thanks Paulraven So much lost potential
  25. I wonder if it was a bit of stunt casting, or just a friend at GL who needed a favour. I absolutely remember the typical recast announcement and thought it was just some actress with the same name, but my friends were all "that's really her!"
