  1. Louise Penny's series of mystery novels about Insoector Armand Gamache.
  2. I didn't get interested until Lana Turner showed up and the big season finale with Julia brandishing a gun, BANG, and then the cliffhanger of all those ... feet... watching some one's coffin being interred. Great season finale. I believe it was the following season when the opening theme was lengthened. It felt like an event.
  3. Didn't Jo one run for mayor of Henderson? And my favourite soap opening theme of all time is the pipe organ version of this show.
  4. Ryan, you're in for a lot of fun, especially between the two most hateful characters Carl and Theo. Carl's pursuit of Theo, if only to bug and harrass the ceap out out of him, and even the suggestion that they could have gotten together sexually is plausible and hilarious, but also dark.
  5. It was a big deal seeing Rosemary Prinz do commercials for All My Children before it debuted. I would have been eleven years old and while ABC felt a bit low-rent compared to CBS and NBC, it was a bit more innovative. I believe the AMC promos with Prinz aired in the evening, otherwise I wouldn't have seen them. She stood, smiling, in front of other cast members and said something like, "Join me.... for All My Children... starting...." I think we still had a B&W TV.
  6. I don't want to spoil anything.
  7. I didn't mind the name - but the way they arrived at it... In my generation and those before it was commonplace to name the first born son after his father, but also cousins might be named after the same man if he was a belovrd incle/brother. Glad to see that gone. Led to too many Johns in my family. But maybe GL and other soaps thought it was an attempt at realism. When I think of Coronation Street, over the years there were many women of a certain age whose names were variations or derivatives of Elizabeth. Named after both Queens no doubt. Made sense, refelcted reality. But I agree with you. There is no shortage of names to choose from. Why make it confusing?
  8. I'll be careful what I post then. I'm on the Canadian schedule, about three weeks behind the UK but ahead of you.
  9. The choice of the name Marah, and its reasoning as a combo Josh & Reva's mothers' names was met with roars of laughter in our household. My sister was pregnant, expecting a daughter, and our mother said "Please do not name that child Lougery!" (Louise + Margery) Sometimes my niece Caroline still gets called Luge. She hates the Winter Olympics.
  10. I assumed the same thing
  11. Wasn't Alan Fudge like a younger Jack Weston? I liked James Olson in The Andomeda Strain.
  12. That was great! @Paul Raven
  13. P&G seemed to do a lot of that "WTH?" casting in those days. On ATWT they had John Reilly playing Patricia Bruder's son, and she was a few years younger than he. I'm not saying it never works. All soaps have successful examples of actors too young in real life to play parents to those who play their children. Others stick out like sore thumbs.
  14. The Katherine Justice version would have been when my grandmother called Hope "the oldest teenager on television"
  15. I feel the same Ryan. Coronation Street is not wat it was ten years ago, and ten years ago it wasn't what it was twenty years before that, but I still find it more watchable than any America soap. It's lost a lot of its humor, is much darker, more violent, more American in its approach. More plot driven. But it hasn't lost me yet and I have been watching on and off since childhood in the 1960s.
  16. I didn't know that. Thank you.
  17. I despised the titular characters and pretty much loved everyone else on that show.
  18. At one time I thought this show had the coolest opening credits, when they sort of painted the whole town. I realize it changed in later years, focusing more on the main characters.
  19. Courtenay could have bern good. Or even Susan Flannery
  20. If possible that would have been amazing If possible, that McConnell actress. Judith
  21. Which MJ did you prefer? I liked the first one enough but we weren't given much of a chance to get to know her. I barely remember her beyond thi king she resembled the eife on Welcome Back Cotter. But we kinded of bondex with the recast. Upset when she left.
  22. Now you have me wondering about a suitable recast if she couldn't or wouldn't.
