  1. January 25th 1999 - I skipped two episodes because I wasn’t able to view it on my phone, but I feel I should start with the Annie/Teri situation. This has got to be my least favourite from this show so far. I was intrigued at the start of January with the drugging Josh’s aftershave thing, but now it’s become such a mess I honestly don’t know what going on. By the end of this episode Annie is being carried off to jail and Teri seems to be recovering and doing well. I’m sure it doesn’t end here though. It feels very Kristen DiMera-ish but a watered down version. Still better than ANYTHING we have in soaps today though, for sure. I got to see Vanessa and Ross interacting over their daughter, Dinah. They are concerned and rightfully so, or actually should I say Vanessa is concerned. Ross doesn’t seemed too bothered and maybe it’s the influence of that India character helping him be more “care free”. Still need to learn more about these people but I really appreciated that interaction between two parents of a grown up daughter, it felt real. I also really got the sense that these two people used to be married. I could picture it easily. This episode was my first time seeing Cassie which was surprising. I got the sense during all these episodes she is suppose to be the heroine of this story and yet she was barely on in January. However I totally understand and accept how stories would rotate and take turns being front burner, that was part of what I love about classic soap. Maybe I’ll see more of her now that Dinah seems to be losing her absolute [!@#$%^&*]. Dinah is gonna steal that woman’s baby isn’t she? I can feel it. Last but not least, this Blake and Ben characters are SUPER new to me.. I must confess. So I don’t know anything about this talk of Blake’s mother trying to kill Ben, but I’m certainly excited to find out more. If anyone wants to get into the back story of what happened pre-1999 im all ears! I’ll admit as much as I’ve been LOVING the Harley/Susan story and Michelle/Danny story, it was nice to get a break. Even characters you enjoy the most can get exhausting. It’s nice to see some new/recent faces of people I haven’t gotten to get acquainted with much yet!
  2. I’ll def have to give that book a whirl at some point, maybe after I read Jeanne Coopers book because I’ve been wanting to check that out too.
  3. LMAO I figured. It reminded me of some really low budget shows we had here in Canada in the 2000s. Thank god we have access to the earlier episodes on here!
  4. I just took a peak at the Guiding Light series finale out of curiosity since I’m kind of invested in the show now. Can someone explain why the final episode looks like it was filmed with a potato?
  5. Phillip seems very selfish. Susan is obviously being a manipulative little girl but he seems to be completely against letting Harley have a relationship with her daughter. The only thing that matters to him is him and their baby together. I’m waiting to see/find out if Drew is a psychopath in her pursuit to make Jesse hers. Either way she seems very selfish. Her and Danny seem like a better match for eachother but Michelle is cooped up at that mansion with him. Oh how I missed all the fabulous 90s sets
  6. Yup I definitely noticed the desperate part pretty quickly. That usually makes for a very exciting character though so I’ll look forward to seeing more of her. I don’t know how to feel about Vanessa yet, I’ve only seen her a couple times.
  7. These 1999 episodes feel slightly Days-esque. Don’t get me wrong, it’s soap that definitely feels like it stands on its own with what it has to offer but I wonder if the success of 90s DOOL had an influence over the underlying tone of the show during this time? It seems especially evident with characters like Carmen. She’s giving me Stefano DiMera vibes but the female version, and Michelle reminds me of a young Carrie Brady. The Annie and Alan relationship also reminds me of Days but I don’t know exactly what to compare it to.
  8. January 1999 continued I’ve been introduced to the Beth/Matt/Vanessa triangle. I love that I’ve already watched a handful of episodes and I’m still being introduced to new storylines/characters. Matt is a handsome guy don’t get me wrong but I just wouldn’t expect these women to fight over a man like him. Is he rich? I guess I’ll find out more as I watch. I just about peed my pants when Beth tripped and fell on her way out the door after aggressively kissing Matt, lmfao! I forget how feral soaps used to write female characters. It’s entertaining none the less. 😛
  9. Why are we doing Phick/Shick again..? Phyllis is already in a triangle with Billy and Sally I thought. Is this really necessary? The desire for these writers to have an over saturation of Phyllis in every storyline needs to be studied. Not to mention she was in scenes with Cricket/Danny the other day too…. 🤨 Ugh. We’re so tired Phyllis.
  10. Yeah I’m still learning the family dynamics and who is tied to who on the canvas but it’s definitely fun being new to it. As a young millennial the two soaps I watched consistently was Y&R and Passions because they aired back to back after school here in Canada for years. All the other soaps were on while I was in school. However, every summer or sick days I watched Days too. I remember being hooked during the day in the summer in the early 2000s. I recently tried getting into B&B from the start and I couldn’t do it. I don’t like their format that much and how it’s only a handful of characters. I grew really tired and bored of the Ridge & Caroline drama after like 30 episodes or so. I like having the variety of storylines going on simultaneously.
  11. They really knew how to make the scene feel real. I’m only about 8 episodes in but I still don’t think I’ve even been introduced to the full cast yet. I can already tell which storylines are front burner and which ones aren’t. The storylines were also so much more edgy and they weren’t afraid to push boundaries. Soaps just rely on silly soap opera tropes now that hardly reflect real life or real social issues. It’s just gotten so lazy. It’s very glaring when you watch these older shows.
  12. I really do long for the days when soaps had big budgets and a super large cast with many different storylines so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. 90’s-early 2000s era is when I got into soaps and it’s still my favourite time period for any soap opera I watched. This show so far is giving classic soap opera with all of the elements I love about soaps. Definitely going to keep watching.
  13. January 1999: just started this show from completely bare bones so if I get stuff confused or mixed up be patient while I learn all the characters. Josh and Reva I am assuming are the super couple of the show in this time period. They remind me of John and Marlena from Days. There’s a lot of drama surrounding this Annie person so appears to be Teri with plastic surgery. Her relationship with Alan is interesting to say the least ! Harley is my favourite character so far I think. The relationship she has with Daisy is really touching and sweet. I remember being that age and wanting my parents to be back together. The cough syrup drama was interesting and I’m really kind of annoyed with Phillip. I’m hoping she dumps him and gets with the hot dad of Daisy (forget his name) Also following the Michelle storyline where she unalived her grapist (not sure if we can use that language on here or not). Danny’s mom is cold as ice! I’ll have to keep following to see what ends up coming of that relationship. I am really intrigued by Dinah. She certainly strikes me as the Sheila Carter or Kristen DiMera type character of the show. I’m sure there will be some interesting stuff to come with her. The drama seems to revolve around this Cassie person (who I have not yet seen on screen but I’m sure I will soon)
  14. Will do I’ll definitely check that out!
  15. I’ve never watched GL in my entire life (except when I was scrolling through channels as a kid) and decided to just pick up In January 1999 and start watching. I’ve watched about 6 episodes so far and I’m already hooked. Wow. I forgot how easy to was to pick up watching a soap opera in the middle of a storyline. They really spent a lot of time on the plots and it drew you in even as a new viewer. It’s so hard to do that with soaps now.. it just ain’t the same !
  16. I googled her name 2 days ago and it said 52 for Emme Rylan. Not sure how that happened but I stand corrected. Either way, Emme Rylan was the better choice.. What do you enjoy about MO and her acting? She’s been given so much material and hasn’t been able to give us any reason to root for Abby. I know the writing sucks but if you’re a good actor you can turn [!@#$%^&*] into gold and I just don’t see that with this actress. Sorry.
  17. I usually hate when important characters are recasted too many times (ahem Adam) but I’d really be fully okay with Abby being recasted. It’s really a shame that such a vital role on Y&R is being wasted on MO. She just doesn’t have the kind of range I would like to see out of this role. I totally get Abby is supposed to be a ditz and a spoiled brat but I KNOW another actress could play that so much better. Emme Rylan did such a better job playing Abby but the issue with her is that actress was way too old.
  18. I’m wondering if I should start watching this show again. I haven’t been following it since like 2013 AT LEAST. Is it any good these days?
  19. I just don’t understand how this man is supposed to be Cane.
  20. I saw someone on Reddit just now say they think Jill is behind the Dumas mystery and she’s using Cane to bring everyone together because she’s on her death bed. I would be okay with this only if its Jess Walton’s choice to kill off her character.
  21. The France scenes started today in Canada. Well kind of. It starts off with everyone on a train heading to his chateau. I’ll leave it at that for now in this thread but there’s a lot more about it in the spoilers thread. it’s always nice to see new sets and different characters interacting who don’t usually get to share scenes.. but I’m skeptical how this whole story is going to unfold. It seems like we are heading towards some kind of murder mystery. I just wonder who it’ll be. It can’t be Dumas could it? I got the impression his role was going to be pretty long term.
  22. Mondays U.S show take aways
  23. Some more spoiler photos. One looks like a bedroom on the train everyone’s traveling on and the other looks like it’s Jack, Diane, Nick, Sharon, Kyle, Audra and Dumas’ assistant in Nice.
  24. “Everyone will be green with envy over Phyllis” lmao what
  25. It was definitely giving rich matriarch/Katherine Chancellor vibes. I wonder if that’s who they were channeling.
