  1. Erica's was the first legal one. Maude's aired in '72 before Roe v Wade passed, Erica's in '73.
  2. That's a big frickin get for daytime. When was the last someone really famous was on a soap? Snoop on OLTL?
  3. I think so and none with longterm injury either. I don't think we even got a wheelchair stint out of any of those.
  4. I like Mo Collins but they always talk about the same shît in all of these. There's got to be a checklist.
  5. I bet you anything that that is Renee Ellis Goldsberry. Idk why she's so light or why her arms are so thick or how she even got the cover but that's her face.
  6. I don't know whether to respect Bell for writing sexual assault storylines for Christine, the idea that he was able to separate the character from his real life daughter is respectable, or find it fricking weird. I wonder if LLB has ever considered taking off some aspect of the show's production. Her reverence for her father and the show feels a lot more genuine than her brother's (but who knows how she would be with more control?). I doubt she'd want to or that it's even an option since Sony owns it. Just a thought.
  7. Mac on Y&R, a legacy character who should still be on the canvas, was destroyed by one bad recast (Kelly Kruger, who we are now stuck with as the character because she was cast close enough to the golden years that the audience is like "Sure, why not?") then another in Rachel Kimsey and finally a truly terrible turn with Clementine Ford. Since then she's been saddled with TWO children with JT, a character they destroyed for a stupid story, and will probably never return to the show.
  8. Because it's the same shot! They've recolored Sheila's hair in post production. This is hilarious.
  9. For some people here the opening could have been 30 seconds of Josh Griffith setting fire to a lifesize cardboard cutout of Bill and Lee Bell and they'd comment "They're trying their best!". We have different standards I suppose.
  10. As segregated as the Barbers/Winters' could feel at times they were all allowed to be prominent characters. The only other soap to give black characters that level of respect was AMC with Angie and Jesse (and Passions, I GUESS). Are there any post-Bill Bell creations on the show that can be put in the same category as characters like Dru, Victor, Ashley, Victor, Katherine, etc.? I honestly can't think of a single character since he stepped down that would qualify. Not Devon, sorry Bryton. Mariah? That's all Cameron, Mariah is a mess of a character. Maybe Hillary. Which they, of course, botched.
  11. Laura doesn't know that Joss cheated on Cam. All she knows if that they broke up. If she knew Joss had hurt Cam I'm sure she would have some choice words for her.
  12. His channel has other interviews but this is the only one that matters.
  13. No one knows that Joss cheated on Cam other than Joss, Cam, and Carly (and I think Spencer). Those do look great. Though trying to make everyone about the same height was a…choice. NC is nearly a foot taller than Tabyana lol. Speaking of, that TVInsider interview was great, I can’t wait for actual couple shít with Sprina to kick off already.
  14. I've always hated that. It shows and it makes me dislike them and their character. You hate your acting job? Well, ACT like you like it.
  15. She needs to leave her lips alone. Bryton's suit is A+. Let me add this look to the rolodex of looks I need to try.
  16. Thank you, I appreciate that. This discussion got thinking about older soap opera openings. From my observation the majority were very "of the time". Like the silk sheets OLTL opening screams, to me, sexy Silk Stalkings meets Network Television. Or the AW opening that looked like a hair spray ad from 1987. The Guiding Light opening with the sun shimmering through leaves as Muzak softly plays gets me dreaming about mustard colored decor and the energy crisis. What exactly is this opening telling us about Y&R in 2023, other than "look we have people you recognize!"? The style of it is only presenting as "I guess this'll have to do".
  17. I said that this is worse than GL's last few openings but your comment ignores the context I gave.
  18. For a show so beholden to its past, living off the fumes of its glory years, it doesn't respect what made those years so memorable. I'll reserve judgment on that set until we get clear images. Though the irony in memorializing Neil as a pillar of the community while treating past and current black cast members and characters like second class citizens doesn't escape me.
  19. We didn't know what we had. When I first started watching Y&R in 99 all everyone DID was complain about this opening! I loved it personally! But look at where we are now, I bet some of them WISH they had this to complain about. Speaking of my introduction to The Young and The Restless, this is the very scene that made me fall in love with the show. I was so curious as to why she was terrorizing this young girl. Mac didn't stand there and take it either, I loved how venomous Jill was and how believably incredulous Mac was ("Why are you talking like this? We're only in high school").
  20. Jax was a placeholder for her until they could pair her with Sonny again. Carly was a placeholder for him because Brenda wasn't around. Why are you so difficult??
  21. Relegating show star Carly to B-couple reads like a placeholder for her to me. This whole thing with Drew is a placeholder too. Yep, the show has zero interest in Jax as a character outside of being a contrast to Sonny.
  22. I swear this interview is a prime example of people seeing what they want to see and refusing to see reality when it's presented to them in technicolor.
  23. I was going to mention how Carly and Jax always felt like a placeholder for both of them because they'd burned through so much story for Sonny and Carly and how that pairing only worked because Laura was in the part.
  24. In honor of Mamie's return, here's a clip of a Mamie/Jill confrontation I'd never seen before (timestamped below): Veronica Redd is so good. She's clearly relishing having material to sink her teeth into.
  25. @Vee don't read this. Honestly, I don't see it for her either. I thought Amanda Setton got a raw deal during her OLTL run but this milquetoast sad sack Brook Lynn is not it. And for me it's not just the writing, her acting feels off. BL's got no umph! Spencer and Trina kissed once a month ago. They've barely spoken one on one since. Let's get fücking to it!
