BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
BTG was designed as a show primarily about wealthy Black characters living in a wealthy Black neighborhood -- but it's also a soap, which means that all the characters are just as flawed as characters on any other show. Many (but not all) of the characters have both strengths and weaknesses, which I appreciate. Many of the Duprees are written to have a conscious or unconscious snobbery. Anita can be snooty and entitled, and yet sometimes wise and compassionate -- and I think she's written to have that complexity -- she's not supposed to be the perfect human. Kat and Dani seem intentionally snobbish. Naomi is ridiculously behaving like the rich savior, but apparently doesn't realize how entitled she's being. Nicole seems to be the most level-headed of the Duprees, but I'm sure we'll see flaws at some point.

BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
First of all, I *welcome* a woman's viewpoint on a soap. That's *not* a negative. I know you have been saying you view it that way, but I just don't understand why you say that. Second of all, a feminist viewpoint is not a wet dream/ fantasy. Feminism isn't female dominance. Feminism is wanting women to have equal space, viewpoint, importance, power, and influence. Third of all, yes this soap shows more of the women's point of view and more women characters than the point of view of the mail characters. As a woman viewer, I find that refreshing after decades of the opposite. I don't think it's an "overcorrection".

Compulsive spenders often open credit card accounts as soon as they get an influx of cash, or get their existing credit card limits increased -- and then max out the limits and and don't look at the bills. They also spend all the cash they have all at once, leaving nothing leftover. A common thing that compulsive spenders say is "I don't know where all that money went". This is a real thing -- I know several people in real life who are like that.

Peaches could be a stepmother or foster mother to Leslie, which means she could be only a few years older than Leslie. They said that Leslie stole Peaches' man, another indication that the characters of Peaches and Leslie might be somewhat close in age.

BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
I think many of the comments are *mostly* because we are invested. There are currently 50 pages on this BTG August discussion thread and we are only halfway through the month. In contrast, there are 5 pages, 6 pages, and 8 pages on the B&B, Y&R , and DAYS August discussion threads -- and those posts are mostly complaints. But so much disinterest/frustration that many don't even bother to watch, or if they do, they don't bother to comment.

I can allow that since some women keep clothes in their closets that don't currently fit them, just in case they ever lose weight or gain weight.

@Cheap21 posted these two pics above: Was just coming here to comment on some scenes from the June 19th episode -- Previously, some of June's belongings were removed from the scene when the unhoused people were forced to leave their location. In the June 19th episode, Jacob had searched and found a box of June's stuff and brought it to her. She went through the box to find the picture of the children. The camera kept showing her hands as she went through the box and held up the picture. When that June 19 episode aired, posters here at SON commented on June's manicure looking so nice despite her situation. All sorts of theories were speculated. Was she really homeless, or someone in disguise, or an undercover cop or ? ? ? Someone wondered if the show had messed up and missed that detail. Another wondered how the show could have missed that detail since the camera focused on her hands so much. So... in the August 14 dialogue, Naomi gave June a manicure and the dialogue was specific that she hadn't had one before. As posted above

Oh look, Tamara Tunie wears this gorgeous jacket in the "next on" preview for week of August 18th! When she wore it on Colbert back in February, I looked it up because it's so gorgeous. Tamara Tunie on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert Feb. 20, 2025 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0ywin1bZio My apologies for my blurry screengrabs. She looks better on the show. Jacket by https://christiebrownonline.com (a Ghanaian based luxury fashion brand) https://christiebrownonline.com/pages/about-christie-brown It's similar to this one: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFVvY1vucfi/ and you can see the detail on the back of Ms. Tunie's is similar to the one on the side here: https://christiebrownonline.com/products/morgan?variant=50123794153747 I see that Ms. Tunie is following that designer on ig https://www.instagram.com/christiebrowngh/

BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
I think partly due to the Duprees feeling entitled and just assuming they do things according to their own rules. It is ironic though, because Nicole accused Anita and Vernon of acting like mobsters in their handling of the Kenny situation. But now I guess Nicole feels she has to carry on the secrecy? That being said, it's only my *speculation* that this is "off the books". Nicole referred to it as an informal conversation. It's also possible that during Martin's conversation with Smitty today, Martin referred to it in a way that *implied* it was formal therapy -- possibly because Martin knows that Smitty had been begging him to get therapy for months.

"Peaches" the lady who visited Leslie/Dana today, seems to have been a mother figure to her. Yet Peaches said that Leslie stole Peaches' man. Leslie said something about the man treating Peaches badly so "I did you a favor". I guess Peaches was Leslie's foster mother or adoptive mother? -- because Peaches says she's dying and will now tell Leslie who her real mother was. Theories and speculations that I've read by posters here and elsewhere: Barbara is Leslie's biological mother. Barbara is related to Leslie's late husband Alan, and his share of the inheritance now goes to Leslie. Barbara is related to Peaches. Barbara's inheritance goes to Peaches, so when Peaches dies, Peaches wants it to go to Leslie. Another question: Who is the man that Leslie stole from Peaches? Was that Alan or someone else?

BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
We already knew that Nicole is Martin's therapist, unofficially. Nicole gave Martin a counseling/psych session in a prior episode, onscreen, in a living room. Then Dani walked into the room excitedly talking about getting ready to attend Anita's concert, and it took Dani a while to read the room and realize she'd interrupted something. Nicole said it wasn't a formal session -- but it kind of was. I *wonder* if they're doing it somewhat "off the books" so that Nicole and Martin can freely discuss his incident from two years ago, without any formal record? Edit to add: Nicole seems to be approaching this as being Martin's *mother* first, and listening to and helping him cope with the entire incident --- she feels that she wasn't given the opportunity to mother him two years ago when Martin needed her, because nobody told her the secret. Now she's making up for lost time, by mothering him but using her professional psychology skills because those skills are a part of her.

I speculate that the June storyline was sped up at lightning speed so as to have it time out with other the other tendrils of the interconnect storylines, -- I'm guessing that Kenny's death will come out at some point soon?

BTG: August 2025 Discussion Thread
Interesting. While watching the episodes, I was drawn into the emotions and forgot time. Like watching a movie, just captivated with what everyone's feeling. Not even primetime pacing but movie pacing of weeks of drama within a 2-hour movie. If Kat and Tomas had mentioned that weeks had gone by since he asked her out dancing, or if Chelsea and Madison had a line saying the past month has been wonderful... then we'd know time was passing. But we had Anita and Vernon referring to the reunion concert as being very recent. And Hayley and Bill went to the hospital the day after the faked miscarriage -- because Hayley was intentionally setting it up so that the corrupt doctor could "verify" that she just miscarried. It was set up that no time was passing for anyone, and it's all happening quickly for all the characters. They didn't even try to show time passing -- Clearly less than a day had passed for Naomi and Jacob since they were *in the same wardrobe*. I did love all the actors' emotional investment (except for Alex Alegria who has very little). Most of the actors carried their scenes so well that I was caught up in it, and I didn't notice the ridiculous pacing. But then even I thought wait, Naomi pushing this through the same day?

Soap Hoppers: The Soap Actors And Roles Thread
Lorna Raverplayed one of the thee "Q Continuum" judges in the Star Trek: Voyager seventh season episode "Q2". There were three judges in the episode who were all members of the Q Continuum, but Lorna Raver was the only one credited. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Q2_(episode) https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Q_(Judge) The Judges were members of the "Q Continuum" and in this episode they were to judge "Q" (nicknamed Q Junior), who was played by Keegan de Lancie, the real-life son of John de Lancie. John de Lancie played Q on seven different Star Trek series, and of course Eugene Bradford on Days. Since all members of the Q Continuum have only the name "Q", she is listed on memoryalpha as "Q (Judge) " as a reference point, but her character name is just "Q" like all members of the continuum.

Paramount/Skydance/CBS merged 2025; might acquire Warner/Discovery/HBO/CNN in 2026
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/david-ellison-top-gun-star-trek-1236343043/ Ellison (new Skydance/Paramount CEO David Ellison) and his top executives hosted a meet-and-greet with journalists on the storied Melrose Lot Wednesday (Aug. 13) to further discuss their plans for Paramount Pictures and the TV side of the aisle. <snip> Star Trek, which has not been in theaters since 2016, has largely been overseen by Alex Kurtzman with a lengthy list of Paramount+ series. Execs said that Trek would be looked at holistically rather than siloed off between different parts of the company, such as film and TV. “We’re going to make sure those conversations are happening together so that we can do what’s best for the brand as a whole,” said film co-chief Dana Goldberg

Paramount/Skydance/CBS merged 2025; might acquire Warner/Discovery/HBO/CNN in 2026
https://deadline.com/2025/08/cbs-studios-paramount-tv-studios-split-streaming-series-reacher-1236481964/ The new, post-Skydance merger Paramount has two major TV studio units: the existing CBS Studios, led by David Stapf and overseen by Paramount Chair of TV Media George Cheeks, and the newly formed Paramount TV Studios, headed by former Skydance TV President Matt Thunell and overseen by Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television. Some TV and streaming projects will remain with CBS Studios, primarily for CBS broadcast but also some streaming-only series. TV and streaming series that will remain with CBS Studios include: BeyondTheGates and StarTrek. Some projects will be with the new Paramount Studios, which combines the assets of Skydance Television and Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, and will be focused predominantly on streaming series for Paramount+ but also for outside platforms _________________________________________________ separate article about the merged Paramount/Skydance company plans for Paramount movies designed for movie theatre release: https://deadline.com/2025/08/paramount-movies-priorities-top-gun-star-trek-1236480202/ Another high priority for the Skydance-owned Paramount is Star Trek, with which David Ellison has been involved since the 2013 sequel "Star Trek Into Darkness." “Star Trek is a priority across the company,” said Goldberg. _________________________________________________ So it looks like the merged company will continue to support Star Trek tv/streaming series via CBS Studios, and possible future Star Trek movies via Paramount Pictures.

I don't think Kat is specifically asexual. I think she simply currently enjoys and wants romance; but her two sexual encounters have felt completely blah/meh/nothingness to her. That is how she experienced it, but it doesn't need to have a label. I do think it represents what some humans experience -- that not all sex is fireworks explosions. Sometimes people disconnect from themselves and from their partners during sex and just feel nothingness. It can happen. Doesn't mean the person will always be that way.
