Thursday, August 7, Cheryl L. Davis scriptwriter, Phideaux Xavier director. Kudos to Davis, Xavier, and the actors for an excellent episode. Lots of nuance in the scenes, especially Doug/Vanessa and Elon/Jacob. Nuance in the acting but also the writing showing various points of view and aspects to the storyline. I never saw Elon's viewpoint before today. Dani showing compassion for Bill, and, for a few minutes, overcoming her own instinct to judge Hayley. This is probably the first mob-adjacent episode of any drama that I've ever enjoyed. Probably because this episode wasn't about glamorizing the mobsters or saying that mobsters have heart. Instead it was about characters being real and human, reacting to chaos.

I wonder if Bill will suspect Hayley. Or even if he already knows? He commented yesterday or the day before that Hayley isn't showing yet. And there was a scene where he placed his hand on her very flat stomach -- she was dressed but he could feel her outline. Hayley isn't Dani, and no two women experience pregnancy the same way, but still, he's been with Dani when she was pregnant, so I wonder if he's been suspicious of Hayley?

I didn't expect a new type of umbrella storyline, with Hayley caught up in a mob-adjacent mess. Bill has all along been conspiring with Joey as we already knew. Meanwhile the new piece is that Bill's wife Hayley is apparently conspiring with Randy.

Even Naomi today, when learning from Ashley that the pregnancy is faked, is wondering why, because it makes no sense.

LOL that Hayley is already home on the couch yet says she just had a miscarriage and was discharged already. Naomi and Bill each arriving separately at the house to ask her what's going on.

Jacob's confrontation with Elon was great today! Malachi Malik (Elon) was amazing, he really got to show his acting chops. Lots of nuance/layers in the conversation.

I forgot to say that Doug seems to have just bought the phone (they made a point of him taking it out of the box) and then he called Randy. Doug is shocked to hear Randy's phone ring a few feet away, and that's how Doug sees that Randy is back in town. Okay I think Doug bought the phone as a burner phone so he could contact Randy, especially since Vanessa just told Doug that Joey was bugging Doug's car etc.

Ha! it *is* Randy. But he said his name is "Sammy" at Uptown when he appeared to be a random stranger helping Hayley! He came back to the Uptown to retrieve Hayley's purse and phone. Dani said he looked familiar and -- he said "people say that all the time, I have one of those faces". Later, Doug notices Randy is in town and says wtf are you doing in town? Doug is afraid Joey will have Randy killed.

oh wow the Doug/Vanessa conversation today is so good! Starts out with Doug ranting resentfully. She tells him she's worried for his safety because Joey bugged Doug's car, and Doug is surprised. Vanessa says she truly cares about Doug, and then ... Doug's angry façade disappears. Doug is showing his true heart, and he sincerely cares about and worries about Vanessa. Deep conversation.

ooooh Hayley gets someone to take her to the Emergency Room. I thought it was Randy, but was it? I'm not sure. I think he said his name is Sam? Ashley talks to Naomi about Hayley, then shuts up. Then says "an anonymous patient" declined the ultrasound, as a way to tell without technically violating HIPAA confidentiality.

As we have all observed, just as there are posts saying there's no followup to xyz storyline -- then, boom, there it is, like magic. Today, followup on Kenny's death in the park. Elon and Joey talking about mutual silence about the incident two years ago and Kenny's death in the park. Jacob walks into the casino as Joey and Elon are shaking hands.
