Wasn't Mary McKinnon's "death" also from falling off a boat?

I'd be very interested in hearing which actors people would most like to see interviewed. Assuming that it would be with a competent interviewer, who would you choose and what would you most want to hear about? (Stipulation: actors must be currently living.)

He's had Linda Dano, Steve Schnetzer, Alicia Coppola, Amy Carlson, Alice Barrett, Anna Stuart, and Kale Browne off the top of my head -- all worthwhile IMO.

Peggy was before my time. But Harding Lemay mentions a fight he had with Irna Phillips over a scene in which a secretary comes across an incriminating letter in Walter Curtin's papers. I suppose the secretary was Peggy? Looking Micki Grant up, I learned she (among other accomplishments) wrote Pink Shoelaces.

I wasn't sure exactly which HW was the target of the Culliton shade. And of course flesh doesn't have to be in the form of tragedy, which I thought was part of Culliton's point. I haven't followed the Cullitons to other shows so I don't know how this has played out in practice, but it sounded like Culliton saying that his intention is to respect the history of existing families and characters and not go wild introducing too many new ones. He didn't comment on anything to do with recasts for example where playing to the strengths of a new actor might shift things though. Only imagine if TPTB had been able to come up with a sweetheart deal such as Jensen Buchanan or Sandra Ferguson got that could have persuaded her to change her mind, though. I don't remember the timing, but wasn't there a whole storyline where Grant was Kathleen's secret source (with some kind of code name) and it would have put someone in danger if/when Carl found out?

This is an interview from last year (pre-pandemic) with Stephen Schnetzer. Nothing about AW, but a little about his stage work (since he was doing a play in MA) and his personal life. Not to mention the Sin Stalker in general and specifically Lisa's (horror shock) *not* being a virgin. And the retcon that John had raped Donna before she ever slept with Michael (but he was justified because Michael was a prim straight arrow and both he and Donna were tempestuous sexual beings!). And that MJ had been lured into prostitution because the johns told her they loved her (!).

Thanks for the correction! I was looking at the "About Julie" tab where she lists some highlights that don't mention AW. Glad to know that she has not completely scrubbed AW from her CV. The AW homepage doesn't mention any writing credits for her either. Kathleen was a great character and I would have loved to have her stay in Bay City longer. However she wasn't a great fit with the DePriest era IMO which tended to be unnecessarily sexist and weird about women's sexuality. I was just watching some scenes from when MJ confessed to Mary that she had been a prostitute and that was why Adam had cancelled the wedding. I remember SOD at the time praising MJ for taking responsibility for her actions, but nobody seemed to think that Chad needed to face up to his role in any of it.

Julie Osburn has a website on which she does not mention anything about Another World, so she might not have any interest. She does mention a historical novel she has written but I have not been able to find it available anywhere so far.

It's a broader perspective in relation to the show for sure. One thing that Richard Culliton mentioned was that he appreciated coming in to write when the characters had been well-defined. He also mentioned how much he had enjoyed writing Felicia/ Cass/ Wallingford/ Kathleen/ Cecile and that he had thought it wrong to retcon a tragic past for Felicia. If he considers Lorna to be a mistake I would disagree, but stuff like Derek Dane and Noah Grady I could take or leave alone.

In the Locher Room interview, Richard Culliton joked about how the Love family was just standing pointlessly around (debatable) until he and Gary Tomlin "turned Donna into a slut". Certainly she had a sexual relationship with Catlin while he was her stableboy which was a very effective leadup to the reveal about her relationship with Michael and her pregnancy. That did remind me though that when I have been watching clips of early Perry, Donna's adoration of him has been so obvious that I wondered whether they had originally planned for some type of Donna/Perry affair before changing direction.

I associate it with 1985 when Catlin's flashbacks started and after Brittany first came to town. For example when Brittany went back to Dry Creek to make up her mind what to do after Mary Page Keller left as Sally. But that doesn't mean that You Were Always On My Mind didn't come up later as well. Brittany thought about Catlin constantly, even when she was married to Peter.

I know they played it for Catlin and/or Brittany's memories of their life together on Another World.

Thank you! That seems pretty clear that Kerrigan is credited as author of the books and Lemay was overreacting. Based on his description of the event which he jealously attended the fans only cared about the actors anyway.

Lemay seems to have interpreted (or assumed the fans would interpret) the promo as crediting her as the writer of the show and not specifically the novelizations. It's confusing because they both have the same title. I'd be curious to see the actual ad to judge how misleading it actually was. In his telling: "A publishing friend sent me a newspaper advertisement for a large luncheon discussion featuring stars of “Another World.” Among the names and photographs displayed in the ad was that of an unknown writer credited as author of the serial." I think the likelihood is it credited her as the author of Another World (meaning the novelizations) and Lemay read it as Another World meaning the show. What I meant though was if the ad was actually more actively misleading ("Kate Lowe Kerrigan, writer of the TV serial Another World") then he would certainly have been justified reclaiming his territory.

I have no memory of Alice before 1984 so I was trying to put together what the chronology of the recasts and their storylines must have been. It looks like Jacquie Courtney adopted Sally (Cathy Greene) before she left. Susan Harney married Ray Gordon, was terrorized by Olive, raised Sally, and nearly married Dan Shearer. Wesley Anne Pfenning was there for a brief period when juvenile delinquent Sally (Julie Phillips) ran away from boarding school and chased Joey Perrini. Vana Tribbey dated Mitch (!!!) and some guy named Zachary, was overprotective of Sally (Jennifer Runyon) who was dating Leigh Hobson, and grew close to Mac. Linda Borgeson got engaged to Mac before Steve came back from the dead. Reading the synopses I was surprised they developed Alice and Mac for so long and then recast for the engagement and the Steve story with an actress who was apparently even less popular. But Mac dating Alice seems like a terrible idea no matter how you slice it.

IIRC, Lemay found out about the Kate Lowe Kerrigan novelization from something promoting her as the writer (or author?) of Another World and was quite peeved. I can't really blame him if that was the case.

What struck me, reading the book, was how remote from the studio and the day to day rehearsal and taping Lemay was. He obviously had preferences which he describes as being based on acting ability. His preferences were probably not as unbiased as he claims, but I have difficulty imagining he had enough interpersonal contact to be pretending that a personal dislike was artistic.

According to IMDB, she played a judge in the 2015 movie Spotlight.

It's me on my hobby horse again. Another of Eddie Drueding's uploads with the end of Mallorca includes the full version of the song When starting at about 2:10. Still no luck finding who wrote it or performed it. Also of course Cass calling Cecile a bitch!

I always wondered whether the name of the disco was a rewrite or an intentional misdirection. Leading up to the story the clue linking people (Willa from Catlin's past, Larry's babysitter Dale) to drugs were pens branded the Plains Motel, which subsequently turned out to be the name of the disco. I can understand why a motel would have pens. It seems odd that a disco would have had pens rather than, say, matches.

Sally was always significantly older than Nancy. Even though the characters were created around the same era, Nancy was born onscreen in 1974 while Sally was adopted (why, when it appears she had Gordon relatives who would have wanted to raise her, is unclear) about age 11 in 1975. When they aged Amanda in 1987 they had already had a 14-ish Matthew for the Mitch storyline, but Amanda didn't really get a teenage cohort like Marley and Nancy. She was friends with Julie Anne Edwards and I think they were supposed to be the same age but since Julie Anne was also working at Cory Publishing they didn't read as teens.

I know the AWHP synopses refer to Marley being in a coma after a car accident the week of October 29, but I am pretty certain she wasn't in a coma. The car accident was on Hallowe'en and on November 1st Marley is apparently fully conscious and inviting Ben to dinner. Mark Singleton was in a coma somewhere around that time though.
