DAYS: August 2025 Discussion Thread
I just watched Weapons and did not realize until the credits that Cary Christopher (Thomas DiMera) played Alex. I knew he looked familiar but I could not place him. The kid was brilliant. Great movie too.

The rumour was that Gwen’s scenes were originally written for Willis. When Leon Russom did not return they gave the scenes to Dorothy Lyman. The scenes made sense for Willis but less sense for Gwen. Although I blame most of it on Dorothy’s performance. She plays it a bit too over the top for the Gwen I remember. Regardless it gave important backstory on Evan.

I was born in 1972 and my earliest memories are from 1977. - I only saw David Bailey as Russ and did not remember him when he returned in 1989. I would say the majority of fans prefer Sam Groom. - I loved Charlie and he is the only one I remember. He should not have been killed off. There is a list of characters who should not have been killed off for another discussion. I wish I could remember Dolph Sweet's Gil because I was a huge fan of Gimme a Break. - Janice # 2 (Christine Jones) was delicious. I did not see Victoria Thompson in the role. Anna Holbrook's Sharlene was a favourite of mine. I have no memory of Laurie Heineman. I do wish they would have brought back Heineman in 1988 and created a new role for Anna. Another World did way too much unnecessary recasting. That is yet another separate discussion. - I have no memory of any of them except for Cass and Brian. Paul Stevens (Brian) is part of actors who I think of as my Another World so he is at the top for me. But Bay City would not have been the same with Cass.

“But I was also taught a great lesson the first month I was at ANOTHER WORLD by Connie Ford, who played Ada. I had written a final tag speech in one of the crucial scenes. And when I got to the rehearsal, Connie cut the entire speech and did just one line from it. Now she was a wonderful actress, a very laconic actress, and didn’t need a lot of language. And I realized something: you write to what the actor does. And I never overwrote a scene for her again.” I would consider this changing her lines. He wrote to what the actor does unless he did not like the actor. We Love Soaps: Harding Lemay Interview: Part Two

Harding Lemay makes it quite clear in Eight Years in Another World and in interviews that he did not respect Dwyer and Courtney’s talent. They were “soap” actors and he preferred stage actors. He was more than fine with Constance Ford changing Ada’s lines but was insulted when Dwyer did it. I loved Lemay’s Another World but so many of his new characters only lasted 1-2 years. In my opinion getting rid of Courtney and Dwyer were the biggest blunders in the shows history. And there were many blunders.
